William K Sutton

As a young native of Eastern North Carolina, William Sutton's parents raised him in the ways of the Lord, themselves devoted members at their local Baptist church. He fully committed his heart and life to the Lord at the age of fifteen. Although he was afterwards baptized, he was not enrolled in any discipleship program; thus he fell woefully short in his walk with Christ. In due season the Good Shepherd found the twenty-five-year-old stray sheep and helped him rededicate his life to wholly serve the Lord Jesus Christ. After reading the Bible daily for the next five years, the Lord called His reclaimed servant to preach the gospel. It was at that time he enrolled at Trinity Baptist Bible College to gain vital understanding of God's Holy Word. He graduated four years later with a Bachelor of Theology degree. He later obtained his Master of Theology degree from Clarksville Theological Seminary in Clayton, North Carolina, through correspondence courses. As a missionary representative, Sutton departed with his wife and two young children in 2001 for the mission field of Australia, and they continue serving there today. Apart from his weekly pastoral and evangelistic work over the past two decades, he has extensively studied Jewish Religion, Bible Manners, and Near East Customs. This endeavor has aided him in writing gospel tracts, evangelistic booklets, and full-length books used in his ministry.

    30—Dedication

    (Blood)

Throughout antiquity dedication to God has always been demonstrated by man’s offering up to God the required blood sacrifice. Knowing that such an act pleased him men sought to do this as often as necessary. In this New Covenant Era blood sacrifices are no longer required because God has since provided Himself a Lamb for all mankind whose sacrificial blood forever satisfies God wrath toward man’s sin.

The dictionary gives us the following helpful definitions of the noun DEDICATION:

    [1] the act of dedicating;

    [2] the state of being dedicated;

    [3] a formal, printed inscription in a book, piece of music, etc., dedicating it to a person, cause, or the like;

[4] a personal, handwritten inscription in or on a work, as by an author to a friend; and

[5] a ceremony marking the official completion or opening of a public building, institution, monument, etc.

The dictionary gives us the following definitions of the verb DEDICATE, both of which correspond with our first noun definition:

[1] to devote wholly and earnestly, as to some person or purpose; and

[2] to set apart and consecrate to a deity or to a sacred purpose.

Oxford dictionary gives us the origin of the word dedicate: Late Middle English (in the sense ‘devote to sacred use by solemn rites’); from Latin dedicatus ‘devoted, consecrated,’ from the verb dedicare.

    * All verb tenses of the word dedicate display the numeric seal of dedication: dedicate (4x), dedicated (24x), dedicating (2x) = 30.

The phrase the blood is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Law.

The phrase the blood is mentioned in 30 verses of the New Testament.

The phrase of blood is mentioned in 30 verses of the Bible.

The phrases the blood of (28 bks), the * blood of (2 bks) = 30 books.

The number THIRTY is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Kings and Chronicles.

    30th Word of the Bible

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (Gen. 1:1-2). At creation the Spirit was dedicated to bringing about living and moving things. All life owes its existence to the Holy Spirit’s generative power; therefore, all men should exercise great dedication or devotion to Him. Seen here in this 30th verse, the 30th word of the Bible is Spirit.

The title Spirit is found in 30 books of the Bible.

The title Spirit is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Pauline Epistles.

The title the s/Spirit occurs 30 times in the OT Narrative.

The title the Spirit is mentioned in 30 chapters of the NT Narrative.

    30th Verse of the Bible

And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so (Gen. 1:30). God told the man and woman which foods He had dedicated for the animal kingdom’s daily use. This 30th verse concludes the Creator’s dedication to Earth’s various life forms. The title beasts is mentioned in 30 verses of the Law. The title the beasts is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Major and Minor Prophets. The phrase the life of is mentioned in 30 verses of the Bible. The word meat is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Law and in 30 chapters of the NT Narrative.

    Dedication of the First Man

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Gen. 2:7). God was so dedicated to man that He created him with His own hands and breathed in him His own enlivening breath. The Hebrew word for man ‘adam’ means ruddy and comes from the root word ‘adam’ meaning to show blood or to be red. The related Old Testament words formed (29x) and shapen (1x) = 30. The phrase of the living occurs 30 times in the Old Testament. The word soul is mentioned in 30 chapters of the New Testament.

The word man occurs 30 times in Joshua.

The word man is mentioned in 30 verses of Revelation.

The word man is mentioned in 2330 verses of the Bible.

130-Year-Old Adam Begets a Replacement Son

And Adam lived an hundred and THIRTY years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth (Gen. 5:3). Adam was wholly devoted or dedicated to procreation. The name Adam occurs 30 times in the Bible. The Old Testament combination begat a son in his own (1x), likeness (29x) = 30.

    Adam’s Lifespan 930 Years Long

And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and THIRTY years: and he died (Gen. 5:5). Again the name Adam occurs 30 times in the Bible.

    Noah’s Dedication to God

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God (Gen. 6:9). Those Old Testament saints earning the title Just were simply people who had dedicated themselves to live by faith. Again the word man occurs 30 times in Joshua. The word perfect appears in 30 verses of the Pauline and General Epistles.

A Boat 30 Cubits High Dedicated to Saving Human Life

And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it THIRTY cubits (Gen. 6:15).

The Genesis combination the length of the (1x), ark (26x), shall be three hundred cubits (1x), the breadth of it fifty cubits (1x), and the height of it thirty cubits (1x) = 30.

The Life Is in the Blood

But flesh with the life thereof, which is the BLOOD thereof, shall ye not eat (Gen. 9:4). Man is to show his dedication to all living things by not consuming the blood. Again the phrase the life of is mentioned in 30 verses of the Bible.

The word thereof is mentioned in 30 chapters of New Testament.

The word therein occurs 30 times in the New Testament.

    Genesis 11:30

But Sarai was barren; she had no child (Gen. 11:30). Even though Sarai was barren, her husband Abraham remained very dedicated to loving her and did not have a child by another woman until Sarai initiated the idea in a compromising gesture. Behind the scene, God was very dedicated to seeing that she would conceive a child one day. To mark that monumental fruit-bearing occasion, God renamed her Sarah. The name Sarah is mentioned in 30 verses of the Law. There are 30 letters in this verse.

    Genesis 18:30

And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall THIRTY be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find THIRTY there (Gen. 18:30). Abraham was dedicated to seeing his nephew Lot spared from destruction, and he interceded before God. God’s answer to Noah was agreeable on the basis of 30 persons being found with a personal life-dedication to righteousness. From the beginning of Abraham’s intercession to the last mention of the number thirty comprises 30 words. The key number thirty actually occurs in this 30th verse.

    Genesis 19:30

And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters (Gen. 19:30). Lot had lost many family members in the recent destruction. As a result he remained dedicated to his surviving family members. The title daughters is mentioned in 130 chapters of the Bible.

    Genesis 21:30

And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well (Gen. 21:30). Abraham presented tokens of his dedication to living peaceably among Abimelech’s people. Further, his dedication to living in this specific location is shown by the great dedication he had purposefully undertaken in digging deeply into the ground to find water. The word digged is mentioned in 30 verses of the Old Testament.

    Genesis 24:30

And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well (Gen. 24:30). The earring and bracelets presented by Isaac’s servant were tokens of Isaac’s dedication and devotion to a Hebrew wife unseen. This jewelry served as a tangible pledge of betrothal looking to the future covenant bonds of marriage. The word married occurs 30 times in Scripture.

    Genesis 25:30

And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom (Gen. 25:30). Esau revealed that he was more dedicated to temporal things than to eternal things like his birthright. He was about to carelessly trade one for the other. From this time forward Esau picked up a name that pointed back to this menial dedication, a name of derision—Edom. The phrase his name occurs 30 times in Genesis and is mentioned in 30 verses thereof.

    Genesis 26:30

And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink (Gen. 26:30). To show his dedication to Abimelech and the people of Gerar, Isaac made a covenant meal with the eager king and his goodwill ambassadors. This senario fits our first definition of the verb dedicate: to devote wholly and earnestly to some person. The phrase a feast occurs 30 times in the Old Testament.

    Genesis 27:30

And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting (Gen. 27:30). The father thought he was blessing his firstborn son, a person to whom a biblical father is greatly dedicated. The phrase his father occurs 30 times in the New Testament.

    Genesis 29:30

And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years (Gen. 29:30). Dedication is often realized through one’s devoted service to another. Jacob served Laban in a devotional way.

The phrase serve him is mentioned in 30 verses of the Bible.

The word serve is mentioned in 30 verses of the New Testament.

    30th Chapter of the Bible

This whole chapter is about the birth of the patriarchs, twelve men who mark the early institution of the House of Israel. Out of the nine children born in this chapter one of them demonstrated the numeric seal of dedication, Issachar. The name Issachar is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Bible. The four mothers in Israel, Rachel, Leah, Zilpah, and Bilhah, were all seen in this dedication chapter. The Bible combination Leah (29x) and tender eyed (1x) = 30. The name Rebekah(’s) occurs 30 times in the Bible.

There is also a very particular dedication found in this chapter—Rachel’s dedication to her husband. Rachel longed to participate in Jacob’s family tree, a type of dedication which this chapter especially highlights.

And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die (Gen. 30:1). After Rachel met with much frustration, her dedication finally paid off. And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. And she conceived, and bare a son (vv. 22-23). God is dedicated to barren mothers. He knows about their saddened hearts and seeks to remember them. Additionally, a mother who bares a child from the womb is forever dedicated to him. The word bare is found in 30 books of the Bible. From Genesis to the NT Narrative the word remembrance is mentioned in 30 chapters.

The word children is mentioned in 30 verses of Second Kings.

The word children occurs 30 times in Ezekiel.

In the second half of this chapter another dedication comes to light. Now that Jacob had eleven children, he wanted to dedicate more quality time with them and not be another man’s servant. He pled with his uncle: Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country. Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee (vv. 25-26). Attempting to keep Jacob close, Laban sought to pacify him by compensating him financially. But Jacob wanted to be set completely free of Laban’s house. He cried out, when shall I provide for mine own house also? (v. 30) This 30th verse of the 30th chapter carries the following numeric seal. The phrase own house occurs 30 times in the Old Testament.

Because Jacob knew that Laban would not compensate him sufficiently for nearly two decades of labour, he came up with a bright idea. He asked his uncle to give him all the spotted and speckled sheep and goats. If Laban agreed to do this Jacob would stay a little longer and keep Laban’s flocks also. Laban agreed, and Jacob set out with great dedication to make his own flocks flourish and multiply, at the same time causing Laban’s flocks to merely subsist. And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban’s cattle. And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods (vv. 40-41). The word multiple is mentioned in 30 verses of the Law.

The word flock is mentioned in 30 verses of the Law.

The word flock is mentioned in 30 verses of the Major Prophets.

This chapter ends with a focus on Jacob’s dedication to his growing herds and clan. But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s. And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses (vv. 42-43). A successful person is one who exercises much dedication to his work. The word much occurs 130 times in the New Testament.

    Genesis 31:30

And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods? (Gen. 31:30) Here Laban remarks on Jacob’s genuine dedication to his father’s house. The word father’s occurs 130 times in the Old Testament.

    Genesis 32:30

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved (Gen. 32:30). Jacob marveled at God’s steadfast dedication to preserving his life. The word preserve occurs 30 times in the Bible.

    Genesis 34:30

And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house (Gen. 32:30). Jacob feared that the surrounding tribal states would immediately dedicate themselves to utterly destroying his own Hebrew tribe. The phrase my house is mentioned in 30 chapters of the Bible.

    1030th Verse of the Bible

And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, for she died that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin (Gen. 35:18). This mother and father both showed dedication to their son by naming him in a special way. Again the phrase his father occurs 30 times in the New Testament.

    Genesis 37:30

And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go? (Gen. 37:30) In his heart of hearts, Reuben was dedicated to seeing Joseph taken back safely to his father, but he did not work out his plan completely. Initially he prevented the brothers from killing Joseph, pacifying them by suggesting they place Joseph in a pit. Reuben should never have taken his eyes off Joseph. It seems that this firstborn son went away so he could plan what to do next, but when he came back it was too late. The Bible phrases returned unto (28 vs) and returned * unto (2 vs) = 30 verses. The phrase my brethren occurs 30 times from Genesis to the Synoptic Gospels.

The phrase unto his is mentioned in 130 chapters of the OT.

The phrase unto his is mentioned in 230 verses of the Bible.

    Genesis 38:30
