William K Sutton

As a young native of Eastern North Carolina, William Sutton's parents raised him in the ways of the Lord, themselves devoted members at their local Baptist church. He fully committed his heart and life to the Lord at the age of fifteen. Although he was afterwards baptized, he was not enrolled in any discipleship program; thus he fell woefully short in his walk with Christ. In due season the Good Shepherd found the twenty-five-year-old stray sheep and helped him rededicate his life to wholly serve the Lord Jesus Christ. After reading the Bible daily for the next five years, the Lord called His reclaimed servant to preach the gospel. It was at that time he enrolled at Trinity Baptist Bible College to gain vital understanding of God's Holy Word. He graduated four years later with a Bachelor of Theology degree. He later obtained his Master of Theology degree from Clarksville Theological Seminary in Clayton, North Carolina, through correspondence courses. As a missionary representative, Sutton departed with his wife and two young children in 2001 for the mission field of Australia, and they continue serving there today. Apart from his weekly pastoral and evangelistic work over the past two decades, he has extensively studied Jewish Religion, Bible Manners, and Near East Customs. This endeavor has aided him in writing gospel tracts, evangelistic booklets, and full-length books used in his ministry.

    (Trust)

    Here are seven helpful definitions and examples of the word FAITH:

    [4] belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.

    [1] to rely on the truth or accuracy of, believe;

    [2] to place confidence in or rely on; and

    [3] to hope or expect confidently.

    The words confidence(s) is found in 19 combined books of the Bible.

    The first occurrence of ordinal number NINETEENTH falls in a chapter of Second Kings being comprised of 719 verses.

    19th Verse of the Bible

    And the evening and the morning were the fourth day (Gen. 1:19). God placed the morning to trail behind the night. Man’s nightly duty was to look forward in faith, believing until the morning light broke forth bright and fair! The phrase until the morning occurs 19 times in Scripture.

    Genesis 2:19

    And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof (Gen. 2:19). Coinciding with our first example of the word faith, the Lord placed His faith in another’s ability. As it turned out, Adam performed well. The Bible combination see what (17x) and see wherein (2x) = 19. The Bible combination called them (18x) and called he them (1x) = 19.

    Genesis 6:19

    And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female (Gen. 6:19). Whereas the Lord had once placed faith in Adam’s ability to name all the animals, now He placed His faith in Adam’s ability to keep the animals. The phrase to keep is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Law. The word alive is mentioned in 19 chapters of the OT Narrative.

    Genesis 9:19

    These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread (Gen. 9:19). Noah prevailed over the catastrophic, depopulating Flood through his faith and obedience. The Bible names Noah (16 chs) and Noe (3 chs) = 19 chapters.

    Genesis 12:19

    Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way (Gen. 12:19). Abraham was charged with breaking faith with Pharaoh. This is in accordance with our fourth definition of the word faith: the obligation of fidelity to a promise. Pharaoh had therefore lost faith in Abraham. This is in accordance with our fourth example of the word faith: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.

    Genesis 14:19

    And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth (Gen. 14:19). Abram was indeed blessed of heaven because he was fully committed to living a lifestyle of faith by actively trusting in the Most High God. Abraham had just successfully returned from a very challenging battle wherein he had engaged his fighting men, being far outnumbered. The name most H/high occurs 19 times in the Psalms. There are 19 words in this 19th verse.

    Faith & Righteousness

    And he BELIEVED in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness (Gen. 15:6). Abraham’s faith rested not in his good works but in the Good Lord. Again the word believed is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Gospels. The phrase in the LORD occurs 19 times in the Major and Minor Prophets. The phrase he believed in the Lord consists of 19 letters!

    The word righteousness is found in 19 books of New Testament.

    The word righteous occurs 19 times in the Gospels.

    The word righteous occurs 19 times in Pauline/General Epistles.

    Genesis 15:19

    The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites (Gen. 15:19). The Kenites were a nomadic Midianite tribe. After meeting the Israelites early in their wilderness journey they became friends. From that time forward they behaved faithfully toward each other. We will see examples of their mutual faith several times in this study. This 19th verse presents the Bible’s first mention of the Kenites.

    Abraham—19th Man from Adam

    And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. . . . As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham (Gen. 17:1, 4-5b). Through Shem’s lineage, Abraham was the 19th man descending from Adam, and he entered into a walk of faith with God. He had great confidence in the One True God. So renown was Abraham’s faith that even today we are encouraged to have the faith of Abraham.

    The phrase of Abraham is found in 19 books of the Bible.

    The name Abraham’s occurs 19 times in the Bible.

    ~~~~~
    The word walk occurs 19 times in the Psalms.
    The word walk occurs 19 times in the Minor Prophets.
    The word walk occurs 19 times in the Four Gospels.
    The word walk is mentioned in 19 chapters of NT Narrative.
    Genesis 17:19
    And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him (Gen. 17:19). This divine promise typifies our sixth definition of faith: the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person. Isaac was to be a man of faith as his father Abraham was. The name Isaac is the 19th word in this verse. The name Isaac is mentioned in 119 verses of the Bible. The Major and Minor Prophets combination I will establish my (1x), covenant with (18x) = 19.
    Genesis 18:19
    For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen. 18:19). The Lord declared how much faith He had in Abraham’s fidelity to their covenant pact. Abraham would keep the way of faith by loyally holding to his covenant obligations and allegiance. This scenario fits the fifth, sixth, and seventh definitions of faith. The phrase he will occurs 19 times in the Psalms. The phrase his household is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Bible. The phrase and they is mentioned in 1900 verses of the Bible, a hundredfold multiple of 19. The phrase and they shall occurs 19 times in the NT Narrative. The word keeper occurs 19 times in the Old Testament. Again Abraham was the 19th man descending from Adam.
    The phrase the way of is mentioned in 19 chapters of Wisdom Books.
    The phrase the way of is found in 19 books of the Old Testament.
    The Way of Faith
    The phrase the way occurs 19 times in Genesis.
    The phrase the way occurs 19 times in First Kings.
    The phrase the way occurs 19 times in Second Kings.
    The phrase the way occurs 19 times in Jeremiah.
    19th Chapter of the Bible
    This chapter is about the Lord keeping the faith with Abraham! The Lord had to hold fast to His obligations of fidelity to Abraham’s household. Even though Lot no longer resided in Abraham’s camp he was still a member of Abraham’s family; before the Lord could destroy Sodom He had to extract Lot from it and get him to a place of safety. Lot’s family members could also escape the coming judgment if they so desired. The Lord sent two angels to the doomed city to accomplish this faith-keeping mission.
    And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. . . . And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city (Gen. 19:12-16).
    After the angels safely set down Lot and his family outside the city walls, Lot began to thank them for their faithfulness, saying, Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life (v. 19a). Again the phrase thy servants is found in 19 books of the Bible. The phrase thy mercy is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Psalms.
    After escaping to the mountains and reaching Zoar Lot’s wife exhibited a lack of faith. Longing for her former life of vanity and pride she looked back on the burning city. As a consequence she became a pillar of salt (v. 26). The Bible likens faith-filled men and women to pillars. Their faith stands as a monument, a support structure for others to emulate in their daily walk. Lot’s wife became a lasting example of a very poor faith-support structure. She was turned into a pillar of salt as a monument of her faithlessness. She repeatedly neglected to maintain allegiance to the Lord.
    The phrase a pillar occurs 19 times in the Bible.
    The word pillars is found in 19 books of the Bible.
    The word salt is found in 19 books of the Bible.
    Genesis 21:19
    And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink (Gen. 21:19). Hagar’s water bottle had run dry and so had her Gentile faith toward the God of the Hebrews. Here God demonstrated His faithfulness and ability to provide for Abraham’s firstborn son and the child’s mother in their time of desperate need. According to our seventh definition of faith, God was showing fidelity to His earlier covenant promise to Abraham that He would always bless Ishmael. God was thereby keeping the faith. In the Bible opened eyes are highly figurative of faith being activated in some way. The following combined phrases reveal faith: open the eyes (2x), openeth the eyes (1x), opened * eyes (12x), eyes were opened (3x), eyes opened (1x) = 19. The word opened is found in 19 books of the Old Testament.
    Abraham’s Great Test of Faith
    And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of (Gen. 22:1-2). This test is viewed as the greatest test of faith in all the Old Testament. Such boundless confidence and trust in God becomes the Bible’s ultimate standard of faith. It is often referred to as the faith of Abraham. Abraham’s sacrifice of his son appeared to be a breach of familial faith, but the Lord prevented it from being fully carried out. The name Abraham occurs 19 times in this particular chapter. The phrase thy son is mentioned in 19 chapters of the OT Narrative.
    Genesis 24:19
    And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking (Gen. 24:19). Rachel knew this traveling man was not from the area. The Near East law of hospitality was a standard that no one dared break. Strangers were to be treated with hospitality not hostility. Rachel’s voluntary actions meet our fourth definition of faith: belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc. Throughout the Bible, drawing water is typified as an act of faith. One lets down an empty bucket to the bottom of a well with confidence that it will come back up full. All forms of the phrase draw water along with all words in between show the seal of faith: draw water (8x), drawing water (1x), drawers of water (3x), drew water (6x), drew the water (1x) = 19.
    An Old Man Full of Faith
    Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people (Gen. 25:8). Abraham was nearly 100 years old when the Lord commanded him to walk in dynamic faith. The title old man occurs 19 times in the Bible. Abraham gave up the ghost (1x), died in a good old age (3x), old man (15x) = 19. The phrase gathered to his people consists of 19 letters!
    Genesis 26:19
    And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water (Gen. 26:19). Isaac’s faith had recently lapsed at Gerar; but here he had moved away from the Philistine city in an attempt to dwell apart from worldly influences and aggravations. By faith Isaac dug into the dry ground looking for living waters. His active faith was rewarded. A spring’s source emanates from an unseen underground river. Faith is trust in the unseen hand of God. The phrase they found occurs 19 times in the Old Testament. The word river is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Law. The Bible combination well of (17x), springing water (1x), river of water (1x) = 19.
    Genesis 27:19
    And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me (Gen. 27:19). Although Jacob was actually deceiving his father, he nevertheless played the role of a son who had prepared his father’s favorite meal. Indeed Jacob had acted in a manner of family faith and now expected his father to do his reciprocal part. The Bible phrases a blessing (18x) and a * blessing (1x) = 19.
    Genesis 28:19
    And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first (Gen. 28:19). Jacob named that place the House of God, believing that the Lord had actually visited him there that night and would continue to do so in the future. Verses earlier we are told that after Jacob awoke out of his sleep he declared, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. This situation fits our second definition of faith: belief that is not based on proof. Jacob had faith that his hypothesis would later be substantiated by fact. The word surely occurs 19 times in Isaiah.
Our fourth definition of faith is in view here: belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit. Jacob proposed to work seven years for Laban in exchange for his daughter’s hand. They mutually established a family covenant as father-in-law and son-in-law. The Law combination father-in-law (18x) and son-in-law (1x) = 19.
    Genesis 30:19
This situation fits our fourth example of faith: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty. The word bought is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Old Testament.
    Genesis 34:19
    And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father (Gen. 34:19). This verse fits our seventh example of faith: fidelity to one’s allegiance. Jacob’s sons had communicated a specific code of ethics concerning their Hebrew faith and then demanded that all the males of Shalem become obligated to it if they were to intermarry with their Hebrew daughters. Jacob’s sons wanted tangible proof of their fidelity. Failure to circumcise would be breaking faith with the house of Jacob; therefore, Shechem became the first one to prove his faith. The word honourable is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Old Testament.
    1019th Verse of the Bible
    And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother (Gen. 35:7). Joseph placed an obligation of fidelity upon his half-brothers. He expected them to observe his test of good faith if they were truly buyers of corn and not spies; it turned out they were true men. They were men of small but saving faith in the God of Abraham. This verse fits our sixth and seventh definitions of faith. The word true is mentioned in 19 verses of John’s Gospel.
This 19th verse presents the Bible’s 19th occurrence of the term little ones.
    Genesis 47:19
    Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate (Gen. 47:19). This verse fits our sixth definition of faith. The Egyptian people had run out of money and cattle; now they volunteered themselves as commodity to Pharaoh.     Genesis 50:19
    And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? (Gen. 50:19) Fear and faith often meet at the bridge of decision. Fear is natural, but it holds you back. By contrast, faith causes you to move forward. Joseph’s half-brothers were acting in fear, but the beloved brother wanted them to start acting in faith. The OT Narrative phrases fear not (18x) and fear * not (1x) = 19.
    The People Took Faith in Moses’ Good-News Message
Even though Moses had already beheld a public miracle with his rod, to carry through with this new command also required a measure of faith.
    Exodus 8:19
    Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said (Exod. 8:19). This Pharaoh’s hardness of heart was the opposite of having faith in Jehovah. But when the magicians could not imitate Jehovah’s mighty power they suddenly developed a faith in Him which they never had before. Theirs was not a saving faith but merely a solemn faith. Moses stood before Pharaoh and informed him that the seventh judgment was coming the next morning. The Bible treats the act of gathering things as an act of faith. The phrase gather the is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Old Testament.
Again the word surely occurs 19 times in Isaiah.
The Lord required a pure red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish to be carried outside the camp and consumed with fire (Num. 19:2). We are informed that after the sacrifice has been reduced to ashes, a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin (v. 9). To make waters ceremonially pure, the high priest simply took the tip of a holy rod, placed the end of it in the ashes, and dipped it into the waters. Afterward anyone who had become defiled could be sprinkled with these waters of separation and thereby made ceremonially clean. At even, meaning 3:00 PM, the cleansed individual could once again participate in Temple worship. The defiled person could not see the ashes in the water because they had since dissolved, but he was aware of its cleansing affect upon him as evidenced by the priest’s pronouncement. The Israelites sent a message of good faith to the Edomite king, but he refused them passage through his land. Instead of welcoming the Hebrews to pass through their land, the Edomites came out in show against them. This verse pictures our seventh definition of faith: the observance of one’s obligation of fidelity to a promise or oath.
    Numbers 22:19
    Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more (Num. 22:19). Although Balaam was not a true believer, by faith he firmly believed that the Lord would speak to him during the coming night.
    And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them (Deut. 17:19). Every king was to have his own copy of the Law. This verse fits our fifth definition and example of faith: a system of religious belief, even the Jewish faith. This verse also aligns with the sixth and seventh definitions of faith. The king had a great obligation of loyalty and fidelity to this Mosaic engagement. He was to ardently keep the faith. Reading the Mosaic canon would help bolster the king’s faith. The word read occurs 19 times in the OT Narrative and is mentioned in 19 chapters of the New Testament. Again the phrase to keep is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Law. The Bible phrases and do them (18 chs), and to do them (1 ch) = 19 chapters.
    The title the law of Moses is mentioned in 19 chapters of the Bible.
    The title book of the law occurs 19 times in the Bible.
    The title this book is mentioned in 19 verses of the Bible.
    Deuteronomy 18:19
    And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him (Deut. 18:19). Moses repeated what the Lord had told him. That generation who beheld the Great Prophet, the Messiah, was expected to have an active faith toward Him. They were to meet the Mosaic obligation of loyalty and fidelity of the Messiah who came to fulfill Moses’ Law. The phrase hearken unto occurs 19 times in the Major and Minor Prophets.
    Deuteronomy 22:19
    And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days (Deut. 22:19). The unnecessarily displeased husband would maintain his obligation of loyalty and fidelity to his new wife lest he become guilty of breaking the set bounds of marital faith. Time after time the Bible presents faith and fidelity as inseparable. The phrase his wife is mentioned in 19 verses of the Gospels.
    Deuteronomy 23:19
    Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury (Deut. 23:19). This verse meets the criteria of our fourth example of faith: to be of the same faith with someone. The title brother is mentioned in 119 verses of the Law.
    Deuteronomy 24:19
    When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands (Deut. 24:19). To leave behind food in the field was an act of one’s faith because he was holding the belief that God would reward him for his generosity. Such a simple form of generosity was also a form of keeping the Mosaic faith.
    Deuteronomy 30:19
    I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live (Deut. 30:19). Joshua had just rehearsed all matters concerning the Mosaic faith, and he expected the people to daily live the faith after he was gone. The word live is mentioned in 19 chapters of the OT Narrative.
    Children in Whom Is No Faith
    Upon the Bible’s first occurrence of the word faith we discover God’s view of the wilderness generation’s faith—sadly, it was lacking. And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no FAITH (Deut. 32:20). This verse presents the Bible’s first occurrence of the word faith, and it is found lacking.
    The phrase is no occurs 119 times in the Old Testament.
    The phrase is no occurs 19 times in the Pauline Epistles.
