About this ebook

While Open group continues with both TOGAF® 9.2 and TOGAF® 10 Certification Exams, there is a golden opportunity to jump and obtain TOGAF®  10 Certification, known as Enterprise Architecture Certification.

This opportunity is open to all these who already have TOGAF® 9.2 or TOGAF® 9.1 Certification. The Bridge Exam, as covered in this Guide with ease of preparation will just be one hour duration. It will have ten Multiple Choice questions and just four Scenario Based Complex questions. The Open book set will unveil after the multiple choice questions are checked in. This Guide Book tells you about the various set of documents that will be part of this open book set. This Wonder Guide deals with both style of questions and the detailed way to approach during the answering process.

The Bridge Exam focusses more on the portions freshly added to the TOGAF® 10 bundle. So, extra attention is needed over all the portions which were not in TOGAF® 9 content, but has cropped up in TOGAF® 10 ecosphere, especially the additions to the main content and the appearance of a large number of Series Guides. This Book has taken due care of this fact. Discussions and questions do concentrate on these areas.

Note that TOGAF® 10 has an upgraded syllabus content that spans into the Core document - TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content Version 10 and also into a few Series Guides that are added in the Exam Conformance list. We have taken care of referring to those contents from Series Guides that seem to be important for TOGAF® 10 Certification, in the questions and discussions in this Book.

Also note that Illustration based - Picture (image) centric questions are common in Exam of TOGAF® 10. We have done enough justice in including such questions which are possibly relating to corresponding images that are part of TOGAF® standard documentation.

Further point to note is about the table-style questions in Exam of TOGAF® 10. These often test your knowledge across ADM or across the breadth of TOGAF® by mixing up with points which lie across the syllabus. We have added quite a number of such questions and the explanation therein will prepare you for tackling such questions with confidence.

There are Twin stage questions, in the style of 'match this to that' which can also appear in Exam. We cover such questions also, with explanatory approach as to how you can encounter them with ease.

TOGAF® 10 Bridge Exam Certification Preparation Friendly Wonder Guide - RamkiN

    Changes Galore

The Bridge Exam is open to all those who have successfully cleared TOGAF® 9.2 Level 1 and Level 2 Exam. It is also open to all those who have successfully cleared TOGAF® 9.1 Level 1 and Level 2 Exam. Unfortunately not to those who hold the pretty old TOGAF® 8 Certificate.

When it comes to the Fundamental content, some important points to note include that the documentation is not one single piece with parts which are shown below as crossed sample here indicating that it is changed now.

So, how does it appear now ?

Note the six names above. These are nearly same as what was Parts in Earlier version of TOGAF®. Nevertheless the documents arrear as discrete ones and numbering of chapters and sections therein start fresh within each of the six documents, whereas there were Chapters 1 to 46 in TOGAF® 9.2 standard and were Chapters 1 to 52 in TOGAF® 9.1 standard.

A few Chapters are removed, some content change is also seen within the six documents. We have taken due care to take you through only the changed content in this Book on Bridge Exam and in full content in all our other Books (Friendly Wonder guide Series) meant for those who are appearing for the TOGAF® 10 Full-fledged Exam, (known as Enterprise Architecture Exam, Level 1 and Level 2).

A major point to note by you is the inclusion of large number of Series guides. The Exam syllabus, known as Conformance Requirements, does highlight many of these Series Guides as contenders where questions will appear in both this Bridge Exam (and as well in Level 1 and Level 2 of the Full-fledged Exam). Note that the Bridge Exam is a combination of these levels with the first ten questions are of multiple choice type while the last four questions will be of Scenario type questions.

The question pattern is restated as :

Closed Book portion of the Exam : Ten simple multiple-choice, single response questions : Each question scores 1 point. Time allotted is 20 minutes on this Examination Section 1. You will have to complete and check in this Section before the four Scenario based questions along with the Open Book bundle appear.

Open Book portion of the Exam : Four gradient scored, multiple-choice, single response questions : Scoring as shown below. Time allotted is 40 minutes on this Examination Section 2.

There is a maximum of five (5) points per question for Section 2.

The CORRECT answer scores five (5) points.

The SECOND BEST answer scores three (3) points.

The THIRD BEST answer scores one (1) point.

The DISTRACTER (the incorrect answer) scores zero (0) points.

In order to pass this examination, you must achieve a total of 18 points or more out of a maximum of 30 points (60%).

There are many Series Guides which will be part of the Open Book. But which ones are more important and which portion within them needs you better attention during the preparation towards the exam is one aspect that needs hand-holding guidance. The discussions and the questions with explanation of why each answer choice leads you to differential score will better be understood when you come to such Scenario based questions.

Another point of difference to Exam takes who were in a different era in TOGAF® 9.2 or TOGAF® 9.1 Exam is the appearance of a few questions based on images (illustrations) which of course are picked from the TOGAF® Standard. This Book does full justification to dealing with them, as also with the Tabular style questions which do take up more time that other questions in reading and comprehending. We have added adequate strategy for you to approach and attack them.

Also be open to the fact that some questions will be overlapping the existing and erstwhile portions of TOGAF® along with the freshly added content. Here again this Book is an invaluable guide to focus you upon this aspect.

    The Introduction Slate

Let us start with something which may not be a Certification question, but one that helps you focus on what is needed for Certification exam and what is not.

Q 101 TOGAF® 10 Exam, known as Enterprise Architecture Exam, is focussed on which of the following ?

    A. Full collection of all of TOGAF® Series Guides released based on TOGAF® 10

    B. The TOGAF® Library, one which is maintained under the governance of The Open Group Architecture Forum

    C. Open Group Standard TOGAF® Version 9.2

    D. TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content Version 10 and certain TOGAF® Series Guides released based on TOGAF® 10

    Explanation :

Answer choice A) : These Series Guides are primarily included to support more specific needs from EA practitioners who need further explanation or more detail than that provided in the Fundamental Content. Those who obtain the Certification are honoured as TOGAF® Practioneer. They are expected to be familiar with those Series Guides which are relevant to their work practice and benefit from them. Some of the Series Guides, as given under 6. The Body of Knowledge in the document seen in the following link would be part of the Open Book bundle in the Exam. https://publications.opengroup.org/x2202

It will be most appropriate for every person connected with TOGAF® to read the Series Guides which are relevant to their sphere of expertise and which are related to their Enterprise.

Answer choice B) : These is a broad portfolio of guidance material. These are potentially useful resources for those who want to get know in detail about the Reference Materials needed while practicing TOGAF®. We hear from the Open Group that "The TOGAF® Library is a reference library containing guidelines, templates, patterns, and other forms of reference material to accelerate the creation of new architectures for the enterprise."

For Certification purpose, it is sufficient to get to know generally about the list of items, names only, of those that are in https://publications.opengroup.org/x2202.

Only those in the Exam Syllabus list is to be learnt for Exam, and that too to the extent cited in this Book.

Answer choice C) : There are quite a few and major portions of content in TOGAF® 10 which remains the same as TOGAF® 9.2. Nevertheless, there are Sections and Chapters that are removed. There are predominantly newer content and additional focus. Many Series Guides which were not existing the time of unveiling of TOGAF® 9.2 do now form part of the TOGAF® 10.

For more information, see 2. The TOGAF® Documentation Set under Introduction and Core Concepts part of TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content Version 10. The next few questions below deals with it anyhow.

Answer choice D) : This is the typical Exam content.

    Answer : D

    Q 102 : Look at the image below :

Graphical user interface, diagram Description automatically generated

    Pick out the incorrect statement

    A. The TOGAF® Standard provides a complete and total description that is generally applicable as an approach to Enterprise and IT Architecture

    B. The TOGAF® Standard is only these six which are presented as a series of free-standing, but closely linked documents known as TOGAF® Fundamental Content

    C. The TOGAF® Library is same as the TOGAF® Standard material. It supports the practical application of the TOGAF® approach

    D. The Open Group is mandated to work with customers and suppliers of technology products and services. It also connects with consortia and other standards organizations. It ensures these by suggesting the optimum way to capture, clarify, and integrate current and emerging requirements and to establish standards and policies, thus sharing best practices

    Explanation :

See : 2.1 Structure of the TOGAF® Documentation Set : under Introduction and Core Concepts part of TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content Version 10

Clearly see the statement therein : The TOGAF® Library is a , which … of the TOGAF® approach.

Answer choice A) and answer choice D) talk about Open Group and TOGAF® in general and are not relevant to this image which is only about the Library.  We need not look into correctness of these two.

Answer choice B) is not correct. The Standard extends to the six free-standing ones under TOGAF® Fundamental Content, as also the Series Guides.

    Answer : C

    Q 103 : Look at the image below :

    Pick out the wrong statement

    A. The TOGAF® Standard is an open, industry consensus framework for Enterprise Architecture

    B. TOGAF® is a focussed framework, which means that cannot be applied to the development of just any other kind of architecture in any context. For example, it may not have a meaning beyond IT t

    C. This foundational framework is supplemented by The Open Group TOGAF® Library, an extensive and growing portfolio of guidance material, providing practical guidance in the application of the TOGAF® framework in specific contexts

    D. The structure of the TOGAF® Standard reflects the structure and content of an Architecture Capability within an enterprise

    Explanation :

See : 2.2 The TOGAF® Standard : under Introduction and Core Concepts part of TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content Version 10

Read portions therein to get the right answer here. And read this section many times to be prepared for other questions thereon.

For answer choice A), C) and D), reading these will convince us that they are correct statements.

Answer choice B) : Actually TOGAF®, at least in theory, can be applied to any domain where architecture and business capability are applicable, irrespective of the fact that they are taking full advantage of IT for their operations.

    Answer : B

Next one is a little unconventional in that it has too many answer choices and some choices are combination of earlier ones. You may not expect exactly this kind of question. But we have introduced one here just to take you through a task of reading up the related Series Guide.

Q 104 What are the characteristics of a good Enterprise Architecture ?

    A. Single Scope

    B. Lower Change Management Costs

    C. More Agile Organization

    D. Different enterprises will expect their EA to guide change at different levels within the enterprise.

    E. Optimizing an enterprise to best realize the business strategy or mission requires all components to work together.

    E. A and B

    F. B and C

    G. C and D

    H. D and E

    Explanation :

Read from : 3.6 Characteristics of EA : The TOGAF® Leader’s Guide to Establishing and Evolving an EA Capability

Answer choice A) : Wrong. Above link tells us that there cannot be a single scope. It even says that there cannot be a single level of detail, or even just a single purpose for an EA.

Answer choices B) and C) are about business benefits of a good enterprise architecture. (Time to refer to benefits of EA from 1.1 Executive Overview under Introduction and Core Concepts part of TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content Version 10). This question is about characteristics, not benefits.

As per above link for the Series guide, answer choices D) and E) are among the characteristics.

    Answer : H

Note : This may be a tough question to comprehend and answer. Nevertheless, this Book will have a few of some such tough situations for you to encounter so that you will be prepared for the Bridge exam, which is conceived to be a little more tougher than the routine TOGAF® 10 exam. Expect majority of questions from the Series Guides or as combination of topics that extend from the Fundamental Content to a Series Guide.

Another question, may not be a typical Certification one, but is meant to draw your attention to a number of essential facts.

Q 105 : The TOGAF® Standard describes the generally applicable approach to Enterprise and IT Architecture. The list appears below. Which one could appear as open book in Certification ?

    A. TOGAF® Series Guides

    B. Guides from Open Group store

    C. TOGAF® Fundamental Content and selective list of Series Guides as a bundle

    D. Reference Architectures

    Explanation :

The TOGAF® Standard Fundamental Content is presented as six free-standing documents, as shown below. It forms the Official Exam syllabus and its Units as per Exam syllabus is reproduced in applicable places in this Book Series. So also selected portions form relevant Series Guides.

The way the Standard Fundamental Content is structured needs your attention :

The other documents of TOGAF® Standard not meant for Certification Syllabus include :

The TOGAF® Series Guides not mentioned above. There are a few more that you will come across in the Open Group sources.

The TOGAF® Library is a portfolio of additional guidance material, which supports the practical application of the TOGAF® approach. It contains two of those mentioned as answer choices and is classified as :

    White Papers

    Reference Architectures

    Reference Cards

    Data Sheets

Guides (which are Study Guides and Pocket Guides) other than Series Guides
