Overview

Given that our five text editors represent a broad range of products, we really needed to spend some time providing an overview of the group to help you better appreciate our more detailed discussion. However, scoring an overview is tricky, because if we were to treat this naively, we’d simply end up scoring each package with something close to an average of the scores in all the other categories, such as support for programming languages and advanced features. Instead, therefore, the scores we’ve given here reflect how well each is the least functional – in some cases by a significant margin – it doesn’t have a low score here because it does exactly what’s expected of it. All the products fulfil their aims admirably, hence the universally high scores.
