    Dustin tried not to flinch when he lifted the page of the wall calendar and exposed the month of December. Was it really December already? Where the hell had the year run off to?

    Uh, Dusty? A little help here?

    Stacey's slightly frazzled voice brought Dustin back from his wallow in misery and he turned to see a line of travel weary people stretching across the lobby.

    Yeah, sorry. He moved to his computer, smiling at the next person in line. Can I help you?

    The man stepped up and glared at Dustin as he dropped his bags. Break time over?

    Dustin managed to keep his smile fixed in place as he envisioned the asshole in front of him skiing off the side of the mountain. Sorry about the wait. Snow's been falling so much this year it seems like everyone wants to come up and ski.

    Everyone and their goddamn neighbor is more like it, the man grumbled.

    Dustin chuckled to show the man he appreciated the humor, even though it wasn't intended for his amusement. He checked the man in, slid his key card across the desk, and wished him a good day. As the grouchy guest gathered his belongings from the floor at his feet, Dustin smiled at the next angry face in line and said, Next!

    Hours later, Dustin bumped the break room door open with his hip and slumped into an uncomfortable plastic chair beside Stacey. They stared at each other in exhausted silence a moment, and then each grinned and broke into tired giggles.

    I think you won this round, Stacey assured him.

    Dustin nodded as he unzipped his lunch box. I know I won this round.

    Stacey shook her head and dipped a carrot into a tiny pool of watery looking dressing. I don't know how you managed to get so many angry, cranky people.

    I'm a magnet for them, Dustin said before directing a frown toward the dressing. What the hell is that?
