    FOREWARD

    "How strong she became.

After years of pain, she felt that her heart

    Became whole and pain-free […]

For the first time in her life, she was happy."

In this vulnerable, deeply honest poetry collection, Stacy Nicholson explores how an open heart is the key to unlocking our humanity.

Combining the intimate, compassionate view of human connection from her first collection (Stay With Me) with the transparent, self-reflective account of human struggle from her autobiography (Colour My Heart), this collection is the ultimate tour de force of the human emotional landscape. Wherever you are in your life’s journey of ups, downs, and nuances of the in-betweens, these poems connect everyone with one uniting, cathartic thread: none of us is going through it alone.

With solace and solidarity at the heart of every poem, Nicholson uses empowering language and relatable metaphors to illustrate how light can exist even in the darkest of places—and how hope for a better future and an unwavering belief in love can outshine even the harshest, most persistent pain.

Drawing on both her personal experiences—as a woman, as a refugee, as a writer, and as someone challenged by mental health—and general expressions of love, pain, and resilience, she captures the versatile, yet universal, nature of what it means to be human.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    INTRODUCTION

Mystic River is a collection of selected poems I have shared over the past two years on social media. Themes of poems vary in experiences ranging from love to pain. I wrote poems to bring light into people’s lives where it is needed, and to strengthen their belief in love.

Writing is an important part of my life, and I use my pen to bring out diverse issues in society, such as mental health problems and the current situation of the world and humanity. When I write, I keep in mind a wide audience and tackle versatile topics.

My first poetry book, Stay With Me, targeted younger generations; Mystic River is a poetry book of poems to be loved and celebrated by different generations and identities.

Thank you for reading Mystic River. I hope you will love my poetry.
