Love is Complicated - Tatiana Shute
Prologue
It’s strange that I became so popular and famous at such an early age. I didn’t know, I was just following my heart and intuition, I was about fourteen after all. The three other people and I thought we were just fooling around and making some music together. We were passionate about our projects and made some demos, then suddenly we blew up big. Our record label worked our asses off. We became millionaires that same year and we could do anything the fuck we wanted, it was us against the world.
I’m now eighteen, the pressure of working, making two to three albums back-to-back, going on tour, travelling all over the world. You think I’m crazy complaining, this life is all you dreamt of. But it’s stressful, balancing your life and work. Having to pour your heart out into songs and then having to come home and act like everything is normal, doing your homework for university and then going on tour and repeating all the shitty cycle.
chapter one
Enjoying the holidays
Away from my bandmates, I had two lovely best friends, Kat and Danielle. We hang out every single moment of every day possible, at least Danielle does, Kat must go away, for months at a time even. She is loud and in your face type of girl while Danielle is a bit more chilled out and relaxed.
Obviously, we couldn’t spend every moment with each other but when we got to university until our curfews at night (and except for Kat’s holidays), we would hang out.
We were typical teenagers, young rebellious adults that knew we knew fucking everything. Away from university, we would try and hide the fact that we would smoke weed together, getting high and having fun letting the world go by.
I’m having a party tomorrow night.
Kat said, one night while we were chilling out on the penultimate night of our summer holiday, you two better come."
Of course, I’ll come.
Danielle said, wouldn’t miss it for the world!"
Aww. T?
Kat asks me. T is what they call me instead of my full name of Tatiana.
Shit, I have a gig tomorrow night in the US.
The university let me miss a day or two if I caught up with the work.
I pause for a moment.
Why don’t you two come with us?
I ask, we’re taking the private jet in a few hours. We could smoke and go on a massive fucking shopping spree when we get there, what do you think?"
What about the party?
Kat asks me.
Kat
I scoff, fuck the party, we’ll have our own, we each own our own mansions over there, we can literally do anything.
Ok. Let me let everyone know the party is off. I’ll also let my mum where I’m going and I’m with you.
I look at Danielle.
Go on then.
She says smirking, as if she’s being forced to come to something horrible.
Great I’ll sort things out with the band and then we’ll set off.
I call my band mates, who agree that Kat and Danielle can come to the show, then the three of us set off in a taxi to the hanger which stores the private jet.
That’s one hell of a plane.
Kat says in amazement as the hanger door opens, do you travel like this every time you have a show?
Yep
I smile, well not every time, only if it’s abroad but yes, I do."
And you never asked us to come along before you bastard?
She obviously has a jokily sarcastic tone.
I thought about it, but I didn’t think it would be your kind of thing.
I retort back.
Kat laughs in my lap, and I stroke her hair in response. I think we both always have had a crush on each other but have never addressed it. I hope that Danielle doesn’t feel left out.
We get out and get on the jet.
Smoke?
I ask the girls, and they graciously accept.
What does your mum think of this lifestyle of yours?
Danielle asks me.
What, the touring or the weed?
I laugh.
Both.
She chuckles.
Well, the touring she doesn’t mind if I keep the grades up, which honestly is fucking difficult. And obviously she doesn’t know about the weed, though she probably guesses I do drugs. It’s part of the rock’n’roll culture.
Danielle nods, then sits down and continues smoking. The girls take in their surroundings in astonishment, like how can a seventeen-year-old, let alone three seventeen-year-olds, have something so special and precious?
I sit down with my bud and smoke it. It’s a nice escape and a nice feeling when you need to escape reality sometimes. You need an escape from your own thoughts and emotions, especially when you have a stressful life.
Have you ever played a show high?
Kat asks, filling the silence.
Trust you to ask me that,
I giggle, but yes, I have. Only once and it was ok. We were a little weird with the interactions with the crowd, but the music was so much fun and easier to play because we weren’t nervous that night. Our label hated us though.
Why?
Danielle looks inquisitive, surely ninety nine percent of rock bands have played either drunk or high."
Probably why they hated us,
I tell her, normally the performance suffers if the artists were intoxicated or high but luckily, we were able to do it well enough. But they strongly recommended that we not do it again. So, we smoke and relax the night before now to mentally prepare ourselves for the show.
Good strategy.
Kat appreciates my thought, but I can’t wait for the shopping spree you promised.
All about the money I see.
I joke with her. But I don’t mind, I’m a fucking millionaire, I should be able to treat my family and friends occasionally, especially such good friends such as Kat and Danielle.
Well, I can’t lie and say it wasn’t a perk.
Kat smirks, but you know I love you.
I know, I love you too.
Danielle sighs as we take off for the first of our series of road trips (though we didn’t know that)
Chapter two
The First Trip
Danielle laughs.
"Just fucking hook up already you two. It’s
