    Extended Forecast - Micheal Andrisano

    Chapter 1

    Emotions

The anti-environmentalists were having a field day screaming foul. The trial of the century was now taking on a life of its own. It was creating outrage loud enough that every newspaper in the country stated, as fact, that H.T. Wetco had single-handedly sabotaged the entire planet. They had done so completely under the radar, with the help of the US government, who now appeared to have perpetrated the whole sordid affair.

Anti-climate control freaks began making claims that all the bad weather across America has been a part of a massive political scheme for years. Everything that was supposedly going wrong with our environment could now be explained as a result of H.T. Wetco’s treachery. All of these pronouncements could be read on any blog on the Internet and, of course, they all had some sort of proof.

Private emails were somehow obtained, and played nightly by several televised newscasts to show conversations existed between the US government’s Dept. of the Interior and the firm of H.T. Wetco. Articulating a need to continue doing what they did, as it created jobs for American’s. When a low level bureaucrat in an email had question the need of manipulating the weather across the United States. The response he received back from his boss was, that by regulating the weather, if the often side affect was causing massive destruction, then so be it, as the damage just created more work.

Some emails made claim that the American government used H.T. Wetco’s discovery to shut down the US economy in specific locations, to increase the cost of certain crops, and for a variety of reasons, even under this president.

Of course, the President’s spokesman, Bill Airles, disclaimed any knowledge of this, saying, there was never a need for any such measures to be taken by the President in order to create jobs, or to slow down the economy.

As the trial slowly plodded along protesters in America and abroad quickly took to the streets, demanding an explanation. People wanted justice now and even some major American firms were demanding to be heard, as well.

The losses of life, goods, services, and structures from disastrous weather over the years were staggering. Costs to insurance companies went into the high billion-dollar figures, all based on assumptions. They now wanted information that pertained to the company’s actions, in relationship, to the most destructive storms.

Some American liberals who fostered the idea of global warming were now desperate for answers, as well. Especially now, as new spring storms, unseen before, rocket across America’s most southern states. These inexplicable storms were making everyone angrier, by the day. The thinking had now become, our government must be behind it all. Add to that, last years tornadoes and hurricanes, in which both delivered a lot of death, and tremendous financial damage all across the lower forty-eight.

The nation could only watch as billions in personal losses have been piling up in just the last five years. A poor excuse to some who believed it was done to keep America working.

This has led to some US senators and congressman calling for a complete investigation of the Justice Department, the FBI, and the CIA. With both houses agreeing they would hold public hearings. It would seem to some, global warming was fast becoming global hoaxing.

Two months into the trial new claims arose that H.T. Wetco was responsible for also creating acid rain and distributing it worldwide. This rain contained so much mercury that it was affecting the world’s fish populations. Everyone now knew it could only come from what chemicals were being used to seed the clouds around the globe.

The evidence that was piling up, would point to H.T. Wetco, poisoning this planet for profit, since its inception, while other governments around the world applauded and participated in this scheme, as well. Even when it meant their neighbor would bear the burden and suffer from the results needlessly.

This trial had an effect on everyone in the business of saving the planet from pollution. They were now being hurt financially. Charitable contributions seemed to diminish overnight. To some it seems the idea of polar bears dying from heat exhaustion, as ice flows liquefied, was now considered a ruse. Especially, after it was shown that most of the data to support global warming had been falsified. H.T. Wetco’s own, World Climate Fund Group, had been a part of those who had falsified their own data.

Thanks to some private investigations into allegations of falsifying information on data given to them by Jeff Osburne, a former environmental private contractor hired by H.T. Wetco. As proof was uncovered that H.T. Wetco had siphoned off millions in donations. Other organizations from, Save the Monkeys to Save the Whales, began to be investigated for possible skimming of donations and falsifying documents, all to help their cause.

It seemed as if companies and people began to agree that life and death, among all living things on the planet, had a cycle of its own. Only when man intervened, it would seem did the cycle change for the good, or for the worse.

So, proving any need for government money, to fund this type of research, global warming, was fast becoming a losing proposition. As most congressman now seemed to agree that maybe they should stop all funding. Long time opponents of global warming were taking every opportunity now to make a joke out of it.

Americans, from both sides of the argument, became angry and shared one common thought. It was the fact that our government had kept it all a secret since the end of the Second Big One, and now they demanded answers and justice.

In Sunday’s edition of the Washington Fair, the front-page read:

H.T. Wetco’s Best Client Award " Goes to China.

The article went on to make the claim.

The Chinese have no problem creating droughts in North Korea, or making it snow to unbearable records. This seemingly is a part of China’s Social Economic plan, to keep the North Koreans in line with Beijing’s way of thinking. After all North Korea depends on Chinese goods and services and are kept in line this way. Through weather manipulation.

As private messages of Bob Thurston’s have surfaced, private mail between HT Wetco and Beijing indicating that they needed to employ their services over Pora-dong and Handae-ri immediately.

Their need was to create a massive snow event using a lake effect scenario in early October of 1992. To stop the flow of Chinese good’s shipping into North Korea, they viewed their loss as inconsequential. This was to send a message to ensure the North Koreans understood their dependency on Chinese material, supplies and goods. As ongoing negotiations of a need for China to develop a strategic roadway into that region had come to a stall.

The North Koreans, it would seem, had to submit to poverty, in order to be kept in line. By subjugating them to a dependency on Chinese goods and services, forever."

Even the liberal news media began to accuse the sitting president of having private conversations with H.T. Wetco. He is said to have tried forcing them into sharing their dispersing technology of seeding with the Chinese. This was right before his Environ Pact for Reelection received total of a million dollars in campaign contributions. Donations split between H.T. Wetco and some its subsidiary companies. Now, the admonishment H.T. Wetco had received right before the donation’s seemed to disappear almost immediately.

The White House continued to maintain their no comment stance. The president speaking on national news channels claimed that.

He was just now being made aware of it. He had no idea any of this was transpiring. He was finding out at the same time the American public was. But he would get to the bottom of it soon, he could promise us that.

It was now being considered as a payoff, to prevent them from giving up the disbursement technology. However, these allegations could not be verified. Although sources close to an environmental group, that had been present at the Kyoto Accords in Japan, had not denied its possibility that China would soon be capable of making it rain.

A rebuttal, to these allegations, was issued from Todd Thurston, CEO of H.T. Wetco. He did not deny that his grandfather might have been a bit overzealous, when selecting protection for his company, but that certainly did not include contract killings.

    Todd stated.

That what this company had done for the world, as a whole, far outweighs my grandfather’s alleged mistakes. If in fact he had made a mistake? He and his family wanted to believe that the government, along with the CIA is the only culprits that should be on trial. As of now, his grandfather was the only one being accused. So far, no proof had yet to be shown to validate any of these accusations.

Todd has stated and maintained that the company’s position in this was that, his grandfather was being vilified over something a US Army General should be facing charges on, along with the CIA.

He was also standing firm on his public position that, his company will continue to stand behind his grandfather to help prove his innocence.

He also noted, That the world should not forget his grandfathers company H.T. Wetco was a firm that had provided water to feed the worlds crops, to save lives, as well as to create work for millions of people worldwide. That eventually the proof would rise to the surface and his company would be exonerated.

However behind closed doors, Todd was trying to figure out how to rid himself of this mess, before it was too late. He would not want to see his grandfather suffer from the accusations that he faced daily.

Even his own mother had sent him word to be brave and handle this as quickly, and as humanely, as possible. After all it was her father.

    Chapter 2

    Todd Thurston

Friday August 2nd The Arizona Sun Times,

    Written by Kathaleen Flynn

This whole affair was now becoming.

"The Uproar Heard Around the Globe":

As the accused and accuser have now lawyered up", this fight will be in the courts for years to come. Although in the court of public opinion right now both men needed to hang.

But the company, H.T. Wetco, is insisting on remaining loyal to its shareholders. Even as the company’s board of directors have began to silently distance them selves from the accused, and for some he is the eldest member of the family.

Disregarding Bob Thurston’s involvement, unknowingly, or unintentionally. It would seem a case was being made, around the business world, that it was he who was guilty of mishandling a bad situation. A situation they now say had never truly existed, as he claimed? This misinterpretation all came about when Bob Thurston lost his perspective of the problem, in his personal fight against Alzheimer’s.

It would seem that he might have misspoken to an overzealous employee. An employee, who maybe had simply gotten carried away with his newly found responsibility. And that employee acted out on his own accord. Unfortunately, this particular employee was found shot to death, at the site of a massive killing spree, so now no one could question him.

Even as he was accused of hiring someone to do the killing, Bob Thurston continues to claim, He had no knowledge on how it could be done.

In the mean time, on the other side of the country, his grandson was about to go into a meeting with an old friend. One friend, who had on several occasions, made certain problems simply vanish.

Todd Thurston sat quietly reading a paper, in a café located slightly outside of Los Angeles. A table had been placed alone, in the back of the restaurant, to ensure his privacy. Allowing him to feel the sun’s early morning warmth on his face. What a difference from the weather they were having back in Washington this time of year. In smiling to himself, he could feel his body starting to relax. Trying to take the strain from muscles, held tight from all of the emotional strain he had been through lately, concerning his grandfather. Yet, with eyes closed, he could still see the shadow passing over his face. Looking up, he smiled at the woman who was standing there, smiling back down at him.

She was a woman possibly in her late thirties or maybe even in her forties, her face hid any traces of age, as her short auburn hair and dark blue eyes, made her beauty magnified two fold. You could see why she reminded someone of an Audrey Hepburn. Her body however was not soft, nor was it poling out in any place. She was as tight as a drum skin and she was gorgeous so that any man would covet her attention. Her height was exaggerated made even taller in her short red pleated skirt and a white satin sleeveless top all on a pair of short red high heel shoes.

Seeing her standing over you with a big smile would bring a smile to a dead mans lips.

Why hello Bernadette, how are you? My, you do look radiant today. Please sit down and join me for a coffee, Todd said, with the same smile, still plastered across his face.

Sitting down in the chair opposite Todd, the young woman reached into her handbag to withdraw a case. But before she could retrieve it, several men surrounded her. Then one very large man grabbed her bag away to examine exactly what she was reaching for. Turning to the man she said with a smile that was more of a warning.

Mirror, silly. If I wanted to harm him, I would have killed you three first.

Not even blinking, she turned back towards Todd and said.

Good, but not good enough. You really need to make it less obvious Todd. After all, everyone in America right now can’t stand you, your company, and certainly not your grandfather.

I understand B, a name he had called her since the first day they met. But understand this, please. I cannot be blamed for what they did, as far as the killing spree goes. Taking those lives was stupid. Grandfather knows he was wrong in not coming to me with this. I would have just paid the bastard off and then wrecked his campaign. I would not be sending a message that no one ever got. I still have no clue as to what the hell that was about anyway.

B just smiled, and reaching across the table placing his hand in hers, she said.

It’s a good thing that I like you, Todd. Because no one in the country would blame me for killing you right now.

Leaning back in her chair she giggled softly, shaking her head slightly. Of course that was silly! I no more want to see you dead than myself. But, that’s not why I came here to talk to you. Neither one of us is going to die, especially not today.

Smiling, still holding her hand he asked her,

Exactly why did you ask me to meet you here anyway? How did you even know I was in California? How many spies do you have in my company?

He said all this with a chuckle, as he pulled his hand free of hers. Leaning back in his chair, he grinned at her and asked.

Ok. So tell me what I’m doing here talking to you in the back yard of my café?

When he finished, his voice had faded into one that may have shown some irritation in the enunciation. Todd was a busy man, nowadays. A very busy man and he had no time to spare for a young woman who killed people for a living. Especially, since he didn’t call for this meeting. Moving slightly in his chair, to show her he was anxious to leave, B smiled back at Todd while never losing her composure.

Looking him directly into his eyes she began speaking in a quiet, yet deep, sexy voice.

Todd, I have a proposition for you. Before you say no, listen to what I am saying. I believe I can help you with your problem. I can move things away from your firm and move it towards the government. I can continue to make them the bad guys here. After all, they are the ones who hired and used your company’s services, right from the beginning.

This now sparkled an interest in Todd. Leaning forward, Todd said quietly, with a new fascination towards her.

I’m listening. I can give you all of ten minutes then I need to move on. I have to be back in Washington by tonight.

Not knowing if he was being taped, or she had set up this meeting showing him as a later target to someone, Todd still resided to hear her out.

B, once again, leaned forward and wagged her finger at Todd, indicating that he should lean forward. As he did so, she put her hands on his suit jacket lapels, pulling him closer, as she kissed him on his mouth. Whispering, she said.

If anything should come out later about this meeting. We will both regret the outcome. But that is something we both know.

Then she let go of his suit and began.

Ok, let’s say that somehow both gentleman in the papers were found, for a lack of a better phrase, resting with God, one morning. A heart attack took them both, within hours of each other. Now, that simply would be something that most people would think isn’t normal. Making it easier to believe that our government was involved, in order to stop the embarrassment it has been going through. Then you, as the grandson in mourning, would immediately initiate a suit against the government for killing your grandfather. Especially, after you received a call, saying that the CIA was going to murder him. You can claim the CIA has duped your company, all the while, into believing that all the orders received, from the CIA, had been approved by those countries you worked in.

Never breaking her gaze from him, B continued.

Your grandfather’s last conversation with you was about him not knowing that he was hurting anyone. This company would never knowingly alter the weather to hurt anyone, or for that matter, any country, especially not his own. All the work you ever received from anyone was pre-approved by the National Weather Department, out of the Department of Defense. You can also make public claims that the CIA had used him, as they do so many other unsuspecting companies, doing business with them.

She sat back slightly in her chair, Hell Todd, take the blame back to the end of the Second World War. Isn’t that when many start up companies, doing business overseas, were used to supply the government with employees who were really American spies.

This government will fold immediately. They will not want to continue listening to your drama coming out to the public. But in this melee, you will also give them a position in which they can hide behind. With a lawsuit from your company, they can claim they can’t speak about it, because it’s in Department of Justice’s hands. In months, this can blow over. Then you can get back to business as usual.

Sitting back in his chair and looking skyward, Todd’s brain was wrapping itself around this proposal. Shaking his head, as if agreeing, Todd felt that maybe this could be a way out of this boondoggle. For both he and his company. Leaning forward and taking her hand, this time, Todd smiled and said,

"Well, B, let’s say that the company wanted to hire you for your specific skill set. Exactly how would we know when we could expect delivery of such excitement, without knowing? Not that I wouldn’t want the company to know beforehand, I just need plausible denial. So no matter whom I may speak to, I will have no knowledge of the time or the place. Also, I need to make it clear right now. Both parties would be resting with God at exactly the same time?"

Todd needed to impress upon her that at exactly the same time was the most important part. He knew, that in order for everyone to even think that the government was behind this, this event had to be perfect. Continuing, he said.

I would hope that whoever gets the job would, of course, be well compensated. Although, they would not be around later in order to spend any of it. Grandfather always told me to pay and to pay dearly. Always make sure that if it’s to someone who can hold something over you, they should never get a chance to spend any of it. However, I am assuming that you and I are good, correct? Seeing how we have had such a great working relationship over the years.

Now, letting go of her hand, he leaned back in his chair, waiting for her answer. B just smiled and said.

Of course Todd. Just think of me as the sister you never had, and this is our family secret.

B held out her hand to him and Todd took it. He knew then, that under the rules of doing business with B, he had just concluded his. Todd also knew that there was no turning back now. It was a done deal at this point. B would have probably already selected the people to make this happen.

Standing now and looking down upon him, B smiled and said, I’m sure that the arrangement for payment can remain the same. You still have my account numbers in the Cayman Islands. I will call you as soon as I hear the sad news.

Oh, by the way, said Todd, Exactly how much am I sending?

Still smiling, B said. Let’s say three times what you paid the last time.

Seeing Todd’s face suddenly look as if he was about to say no, B shook her hand and stopped with three fingers held upright.

If you look at it in the right light, you are getting one for half price.

With that, she walked down the street, knowing that the three men were looking at her ass as she walked away. It moved like a swing, one that they’ll never ride on. What a great time to have killed them if she wanted them dead, she thought.

Todd whistled slowly to himself, it was mostly air coming out from his stomach. Suddenly his problems were over, and it wasn’t even his idea. Which makes it even better. If she, or someone else, did get caught, then so what? He would just have to place a lot of staff attorneys on finding out who had just tried to kill his grandfather.
