About this ebook
After more than a week aboard a ship, Marsali has stumbled off the docks and into the heart of King Kilian, the Red Dragon.
Perhaps it was the way her eyes sparkled in the sunlight or the way she seemed to move so gracefully across the courtyard in service to the visiting queen. Kilian found himself mesmerized by Marsali and desperately wished to meet her.
Marsali is herself enamored by Kilian, but is unsure of his intentions. One thing she does know, is that things would not go well for her if her King and Queen found out she was romantically involved with a rival.
Relations between Kilian and Marsali's king aren't at their best and it wouldn't take much to restart the bloodshed. If caught with Kilian she could herself be executed for treason!
Neither of them can let the other go without confessing their feelings, but is the risk of getting caught too high to give in to their passion? In spite of it all can they find a way to be together?

Chapter one
Marsali
The ship sailed calmly and steadily through the salt-scented winds for three days. Traveling from the war-ravaged coast of Argent to a small collection of islands glittering like green and yellow jewels in the sun. Cochineal, Land of the Red Dragon.
Marsali's heart sank when she'd first heard that they would be bound for Cochineal instead of Ferric, her homeland. She was lady’s maid to queen Catriona, and the queen had stayed by King Darce's side throughout his latest war with Argent and so Marsali had stayed by the queen's. She was ready to go home. Marsali was ready to see her family, not some isolated island.
It was painful to think of the people and places she left behind living their lives without her. Growing, loving, and simply continuing on in the mundaneness of life while she sat on a boat or in a castle or in a tent was the source of her greatest pain. Her niece and nephew growing older, the castle garden blooming, trees reaching higher into the sky, and her childhood sweetheart marrying and moving on. A lot had happened while she was gone, and it hurt her to not be a part of it.
Her ex had, in fact, moved on from her a long time ago. In fact, he’d moved on from her and several women since. It was the nature of her life that she just hadn’t had as many opportunities to move on, and so she was left to pine for a past that was really never within reach.
The voyage from the continent to the capital island of Cochineal, creatively named Cochineal, had been expectedly uneventful. Then once they’d reached port, the backwater king had refused to let them unload until the Iron Dragon himself arrived. This left Marsali sitting on board the unmoving ship for an additional three days. Smelling the sting of the ocean air. Tasting the dry and flavorless food that was served three times a day. Marsali needed to get off this boat. She had about reached the point where she’d jump overboard and swim to shore.
Having traveled with many of the men aboard the ship throughout the course of the Iron Dragon’s latest expedition, Marsali had fallen in with a small band of sailors. In their spare moments, they would belt out shantys
