About this ebook

Recent archaeological discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Library have revealed a larger than previously known body of Christian and Messianic literature. For many, these and other findings lead us to wanting to learn more about the Holy Bible and related events. Since much of Christianity's early church history and spiritual literature seems to have been ignored or even condescended by religious gatekeepers, we are still left wanting to know more. There is a saying, "We don't know what we don't know," and there is a parallel saying, "The application of knowledge is power." Two Essene Gospels includes in this volume The Gospel of the Sacred Twelve and The Salvation of the World. This ebook has been carefully and lovingly edited by Alan Lewis Silva. The overall format is organized and the font is easy to read. This Essene Gospels Bible is offered non-judgmentally without any interest in changing anyone's belief system. This book is a gift of spiritual fruit from an author with some talents, who is a born-again Christian. Please enjoy this book and feel free to share your insights with others. Thank you, and peace.

Two Essene Gospels - Alan Lewis Silva

THE GOSPEL OF THE HOLY TWELVE

    Chapter 0

Here begins the Gospel of the Perfect Life of Yahushuah Ha’Mashiak, the offspring of David through Yahusef and Miriam after the flesh, and the Son of Yahuwah, through Divine Love and Wisdom, after the Spirit.

From the Ages of Ages is the Eternal Thought. The Thought is the Word, the Word is the Act, and these Three are One in the Eternal Law. The Law is with Yahuwah, and the Law proceeds from Yahuwah. All things are created by Law, and without it is not created anything that exists. In the Word is Life and Substance, the Fire and the Light. The Love and the Wisdom, are One for the Salvation of all. The Light shines in darkness, and the darkness does not conceal it. The Word is the one Life-giving Fire, shining into the world, the fire and light of every soul that enters into the world. I am in the world, the world is in Me, and the world knows it not. I come to my own House, and my friends do not receive Me. But as many as receive and obey, to them is given the power to become the Sons and Daughters of Yahuwah, even to those who believe in the sacred Name, who are born of Yahuwah, not of the will of the blood and flesh. The Word is incarnate, and dwells among us, whose Glory we beheld, full of Grace. Behold the Goodness, the Truth, and the Beauty of Yahuwah!

    Chapter 1

    1. There was in the days of Herod, the King of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariyah, of the course of Abia. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

    2. They were both righteous before Yahuwah, walking blameless in all the commandments and ordinances of Yahuwah. They had no child, because Elisabeth was barren, and now they were both well stricken in years.

    3. It came to pass, while he executed the priest’s office before Yahuwah in the order of his course, according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of Yahuwah. The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of the offering of incense.

    4. There appeared to him a malak of Yahuwah standing over the altar of incense. When Zachariyah saw, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the malak said to him: Do not fear, Zachariyah, for your prayer is heard. Your wife Elisabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name Yahuchanan.

    5. You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. He will be great in the sight of Yahuwah. He will not eat flesh meats, nor drink strong drink. He will be filled with Yahuwah’s Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.

    6. Many of the children of Yisrayah he will turn to Yahuwah their Father. He will go before Him in the spirit and power of Eliyah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for Yahuwah.

    7. Zachariyah said to the malak: How will I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well stricken in years. Answering, the malak said to him: I am Gabriyah, who stands in the presence of Yahuwah. I am sent to speak to you, and to announce to you these glad tidings.

    8. Behold, you are dumb and not able to speak, until the day these things will be performed. Then your tongue will be loosed, that you may believe my words which will be fulfilled in their season.

    9. The people waited for Zachariyah, and marveled that he tarried so long in the temple. When he came out, he could not speak to them. They perceived he saw a vision in the temple, for he made signs to them, and remained speechless.

    10. It came to pass, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house. His wife Elisabeth conceived after those days, and hid herself five months, saying: Thus has Yahuwah dealt with me in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

    Chapter 2

    1. In the sixth month the malak Gabriyah was sent from Yahuwah, to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Yahusef, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Miriam.

    2. Yahusef was a just and rational Mind, and he was skilled in all manner of work in wood and in stone. Miriam was a tender and discerning Soul, and she wrought veils for the temple. They were both pure before Yahuwah, and of them both was Yahushuah, who is called the Mashiak.

    3. The malak came in to her, and said: Hail, Miriam, you who are highly favored, for the Motherhood of Yahuwah is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

    4. When she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. The malak said to her: Do not fear, Miriam, for you found favor with Yahuwah. Behold, you will conceive in your womb, bring forth a child, and He will be great, Son of the Highest.

    5. Yahuwah will give to Him the throne of His father David. He will reign over the house of Yaacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.

    6. Miriam said to the malak: How will this be, seeing I do not know a man? The malak answered, and said to her: Yahuwah’s Spirit will come upon Yahusef your spouse, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you, O Miriam. That sacred thing which will be born of you will be called the Mashiak, the Child of Yahuwah. On earth His Name will be called Yahushuah Ha’Mashiak, for He will save the people from their sins, whosoever will repent, and obey His Law.

    7. Therefore you will eat no flesh, nor drink strong drink, for the child will be consecrated to Yahuwah from its mother’s womb. He will take neither flesh nor strong drink, nor will razor touch His head.

    8. Behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she conceived a son in her old age. This is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with Yahuwah no thing will be impossible. Miriam said: Behold the handmaid of Yahuwah, be it to me according to your word. And the malak departed from her.

    9. In the same day the malak Gabriyah appeared to Yahusef in a dream, and said to him: Hail, Yahusef, you who are highly favored, for the Fatherhood of Yahuwah is with you. Blessed are you among men, and blessed is the fruit of your loins.

    10. Yahusef was troubled as he thought upon these words. The malak of Yahuwah said to him: Do not fear, Yahusef, you Son of David, for you have found favor with Yahuwah. Behold, you will beget a child, and you will call His name Yahushuah Ha’Mashiak, for He will save His people from their sins.

    11. Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was written in the prophets, saying: Behold, a Maiden will conceive, be with child, bring forth a son, and will call His name Emmanuyah (which being interpreted is: Yahuwah Within Us).

    12. Being raised from sleep Yahusef did as the malak bid him, went in to Miriam, his espoused bride, and she conceived in her womb the sacred One.

    13. Miriam arose in those days, went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Yahudah, entered into the house of Zachariyah, and saluted Elisabeth.

    14. It came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Miriam, the babe leaped in her womb. Elisabeth was filled with the power of the Spirit, spoke with a clear voice, and said: Blessed are you among women, blessed is the fruit of your womb.

    15. Why is this to me, that the mother of my Master should come to me? Lo, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a performance of those things which were told her from the sacred One.

    16. Miriam said: My soul does magnify you, the Eternal, and my spirit does rejoice in Yahuwah my Savior. You regarded the low estate of your handmaiden. Behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.

    17. You who are mighty did great things to me, and sacred is your Name. Your mercy is on those who fear you from generation to generation.

    18. You showed strength with your arm, you scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

    19. You put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted the humble and the meek. You filled the hungry with good things, and the rich you send away empty.

    20. You help your servant Yisrayah in remembrance of your mercy, as you spoke to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his seed forever. Miriam abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

    21. These are the words Yahusef spoke, saying: Blessed is the Father of our fathers and our mothers in Yisrayah. In an acceptable time you heard me, and in the day of salvation you helped me.

    22. You said I will preserve and make you a covenant of the people to renew the face of the earth, to cause the desolate places to be redeemed from the hands of the spoiler.

    23. You may say to the captives: Go you forth and be free. And to those who are in darkness: Show yourselves in the light. They will feed in the ways of pleasantness, and they will not hunt nor worry the creatures which I made to rejoice before me.

    24. They will not hunger nor thirst anymore, nor will the heat smite them, nor the cold destroy them. I will make on all My mountains a way for travellers. My high places will be exalted.

    25. Sing you heavens, rejoice you earth. O you deserts break forth with song, for you O Yahuwah do comfort your people, and console those who suffered wrong.

    Chapter 3

    1. Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son. Her neighbors and her cousins heard how Yahuwah showed great mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her.

    2. It came to pass that they came to circumcise the child on the eighth day. They called him Zachariyah, after the name of his father. His mother answered, and said: Not so, he will be called Yahuchanan. They said to her: There is none of your kindred that is called by that name.

    3. They made signs to his father, how he would have him called. He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying: His name is Yahuchanan. They all marveled, for his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed. He spoke, and praised Yahuwah.

    4. Great awe came on all who dwelt round about them, and all these sayings were made known abroad throughout all the hilly country of Yahudah. All those who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying: What manner of child will this be! And the hand of Yahuwah was with him.

    5. His father Zachariyah was filled with Yahuwah’s Spirit, and prophesied, saying: Blessed are you, O Father of Yisrayah, for you visited and redeemed your people. You raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of your servant David, as you spoke by the mouth of your sacred prophets, which were since the world began.

    6. That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us. To perform the mercy promised to our ancestors, and to remember your sacred covenant.

    7. The oath which you swore to our father Abraham, that you would grant to us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve before you without fear in holiness and righteousness, all the days of our life.

    8. This child will be called the Prophet of the Highest. He will go before your face, O Yahuwah, to prepare your ways, to give to your people knowledge of salvation by the remission of their sins.

    9. Through the tender mercy of Yahuwah the dayspring from on high visited us, to give light to those who sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

    10. The child grew, waxed strong in spirit, and his mission was hidden till the day of his showing forth to Yisrayah.

    Chapter 4

    1. Now the birth of Yahushuah Ha’Mashiak went this way. It came to pass in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. All the people of Syria went to be taxed, everyone into his own city.

    2. Yahusef went up from Galilee with Miriam, out of the city of Nazareth into Yahudah, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because they were of the house and lineage of David), to be taxed with Miriam his espoused wife, who was great with child.

    3. And so it was, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. She brought forth her firstborn child in a cave, wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, which was in the cave, because there was no room for them in the inn. Behold, it was filled with many lights, on either side Twelve, bright as the Sun in his glory.

    4. In the same cave there was an ox, a horse, a donkey, a sheep, and beneath the manger was a cat with her little ones. There were doves also, overhead, and each had its mate after its kind, the male with the female.

    5. Thus it came to pass that He was born in the midst of the animals which, through the redemption of man from ignorance and selfishness, He came to redeem from their sufferings, by the manifestation of the sons and the daughters of Yahuwah.

    6. In the same country there were shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. When they came, lo, the malak of Yahuwah came upon them, the glory of the Highest shone round about them, and they were very afraid.

    7. The malak said to them: Do not fear. Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be to all people. Unto you a Savior is born today in the city of David, which is Mashiak, the sacred One of Yahuwah. And this will be a sign to you: You will find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

    8. Suddenly there was with the malak a multitude of the heavenly host praising Yahuwah, saying: Glory to Yahuwah in the highest, and on earth peace toward men of goodwill.

    9. It came to pass, as the malaks were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another: Let us now go to Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which Yahuwah made known to us.

    10. They came with haste, found Miriam and Yahusef in the cave, and the Babe lying in a manger. When they saw these things, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning the child.

    11. All those who heard it wondered at those things told them by the shepherds. Miriam kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising Yahuwah for all the things they heard and saw.

    12. When eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, His name was called Yahushuah Ha’Mashiak, as was spoken by the malak before He was conceived in the womb. When the days of her purification were accomplished according to the law of Moshe, they brought the child to Yahrusalem, to present it to Yahuwah (as it is written in the law of Moshe, every male that opens the womb will be called sacred to Yahuwah).

    13. Behold, there was a man in Yahrusalem, whose name was Simeon. The same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Yisrayah, and Yahuwah’s Spirit was upon him. It was revealed to him that he should not see death before he saw the Mashiak of Yahuwah.

    14. He came by the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child Yahushuah, to do for Him after the custom of the law, he perceived the child as it were a Pillar of Light. Then he took Him up in his arms, blessed Yahuwah, and said:

    15. Let your servant depart in peace, according to your word. My eyes see your Salvation, which you prepared before the face of all people, to be a Light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of your people Yisrayah. His parents marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.

    16. Simeon blessed them, and said to Miriam His mother: Behold, this child is set for the falling and rising again of many in Yisrayah, and for a Sign which will be spoken against (yea, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

    17. There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser, of a great age, who did not depart from the temple, but served Yahuwah with fastings and prayers night and day.

    18. Coming in that instant she likewise gave thanks to Yahuwah, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Yahrusalem. When they performed all things according to the law they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

    Chapter 5

    1. When Yahushuah was born in Bethlehem of Yahudah, in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came certain Magi from the east to Yahrusalem, who purified themselves, and did not taste of flesh nor of strong drink, that they might find the Mashiak whom they sought. They said: Where is He who is born King of the Yahudim? We in the East saw His Star, and are come to worship Him.

    2. When Herod the king heard these things he was troubled, and all Yahrusalem with him. He gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, and demanded of them where the Mashiak would be born.

    3. They said to him: Bethlehem of Yahudah. For thus it is written by the prophet: And you Bethlehem, in the land of Yahudah, are not the least among the princes of Yahudah, out of you will come forth a Governor, that will rule my people Yisrayah.

    4. When he had called the Magi privately, Herod enquired of them diligently what time the Star appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, and said: Go and search diligently for the young child. When you find Him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship Him also.

    5. When they heard the king, they departed. Lo, the Magi of the East saw the Star, and the malak of the Star went before them, till it came and stood over the place where the young child was. The Star had the appearance of six rays.

    6. They went on their way with their camels and donkeys laden with gifts, and were intent on the heavens, seeking the child by the Star. They forgot their weary beasts for a little, who had borne their burden and heat of the day, and were thirsty and fainting, so the Star was hidden from their sight.

    7. In vain they stood and gazed, and looked one upon the other in their trouble. Then they thought of their camels and donkeys, and hurried to undo their burdens, that they might have rest.

    8. Now there was a well by the way near Bethlehem. As they stooped down to draw water for their beasts, lo, the Star they lost appeared to them, being reflected in the stillness of the water.

    9. When they saw it they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

    10. They praised Yahuwah who showed His mercy to them, even as they showed mercy to their thirsty beasts.

    11. When they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Miriam His mother. They fell down, and worshipped Him. When they opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

    12. Being warned of Yahuwah in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. They kindled a fire according to their custom, and worshipped Yahuwah in the Flame.

    13. When they were departed, behold, the malak of Yahuwah appeared to Yahusef in a dream, saying: Arise, take the young child and His mother, flee into Egypt, and remain there until I bring you word, for Herod will seek to destroy Him.

    14. He arose, took the young child and His mother by night, and departed into Egypt. He was there for about seven years until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of Yahuwah by the prophet, saying: Out of Egypt I called my son.

    15. Elizabeth too, when she heard it, took her infant son, went up into a mountain, and hid him. Herod sent his officers to Zachariyah in the temple, and said to him: Where is your child? He answered: I am a minister of Yahuwah, I am continually in the temple. I do not know where he is.

    16. He sent again, saying: Tell me truly where your son is, do you not know your life is in my hand? Zachariyah answered: Yahuwah is witness if you shed my blood. Yahuwah will receive my spirit, for you shed the blood of the innocent.

    17. They killed Zachariyah in the Temple between the sacred place and the altar. The people knew it, for a voice was heard: Zachariyah is dead, his blood will not be washed out until the avenger comes. After a time the priests cast lots. The lot fell upon Simeon, and he filled his place.

    18. When he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, Herod was exceedingly wroth. He sent forth and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts near there, from two years old and under, according to the time he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

    19. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Yeremiyah the prophet, saying: In Rama there was a voice heard, lamentation, weeping, and great mourning. Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

    20. When Herod was dead, behold, a malak of Yahuwah appeared in a dream to Yahusef in Egypt, saying: Arise, take the young child and His mother, and return into the land of Yisrayah, for they are dead who sought the young child’s life.

    21. He arose, took the young child and His mother, and came into the land of Yisrayah. They came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, and He was called the Nazarene.

    Chapter 6

    1. Yahusef and Miriam, His parents, went up to Yahrusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. They observed the feast after the manner of their brothers, who abstained from bloodshed, the eating of flesh, and from strong drink. When He was twelve years old, He went to Yahrusalem with them after the custom of the feast.

    2. When they fulfilled the days, the child Yahushuah tarried behind in Yahrusalem as they returned. His parents did not know of it. Supposing Him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey. They searched for Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. When they did not find Him, they turned back to Yahrusalem, seeking Him.

    3. It came to pass after three days, they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. All who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.

    4. When they saw Him, they were amazed, and His mother said to Him: Son, why did deal thus with us? Behold, your father and I searched for you, sorrowing. He said to them: How is it that you searched for me? Did you not know I must be in my Parents’ House. They did not understand the saying which He spoke to them. But His mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

    5. Seeing Him, a certain prophet said to Him: Behold, the Love and the Wisdom of Yahuwah are one in you. In the age to come you will be called Yahushuah Ha’Mashiak, for Yahuwah will save mankind by the Mashiak (which now is verily as the bitterness of the sea, but it will yet be turned into sweetness), but to this generation the Bride will not be manifest, nor yet to the age to come.

    6. He went down with them, came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. He made wheels, yokes, and tables also, with great skill. Yahushuah increased in stature and in favor with Yahuwah and man.

    7. On a certain day the child Yahushuah came to a place where a snare was set for birds, and there were some boys there. Yahushuah said to them: Who set this snare for the innocent creatures of Yahuwah? Behold, in a snare they will be caught in like manner. He beheld twelve sparrows, as it were dead.

    8. He moved His hands over them, and said to them: Go, fly away, and remember me while you live. They arose, and fled away making a noise. Seeing this, the Yahudim were astonished, and told it to the priests.

    9. And the child did other wonders. Flowers were seen to spring up beneath His feet, where there was nothing but barren ground before. His companions stood in awe of Him.

    10. A certain day after this, the child Yahushuah was playing with His companions, younger than Himself. They gathered round Him, and chose Him as their king. As He sat they twined an olive branch with flowers, they made it into a crown, they placed it on His head, and a reed in His hand for a scepter.

    11. They made obeisance to Him, saying: Hail, King of Yisrayah! He said to them: Hold your peace, you do not know what you say. Do not tell it to any. Such words are not for you to proclaim, but for those to whom it will be given.

    12. They marveled. One passing by heard it, and he said: Yea, truly, you chose well, for He is a comely child, and of great nobility.

    10. In the eighteenth year of His age, Yahushuah was espoused to Miriam (a virgin of the tribe of Yahudah) with whom He lived seven years. She died, for Yahuwah took her, that He might go on to the higher things which He had to do, to suffer for the sons and daughters of men.

    11. After He finished His study of the law, Yahushuah went down again into Egypt, that He might learn of the wisdom of the Egyptians, even as Moshe did. Going into the desert, He meditated, fasted, prayed, and obtained the power of the sacred Name, by which He wrought many miracles.

    12. For seven years he conversed with Yahuwah face to face. He learned the language of birds and of beasts, the healing powers of trees, herbs, and flowers, the hidden secrets of precious stones. He learned the motions of the Sun, the Moon, and the stars, the powers of the letters, mysteries of the Square and the Circle, the Transmutation of things, of forms, of numbers, and of signs. From there He returned to Nazareth to visit His parents. He taught there and in Yahrusalem as an accepted Rabbi, even in the temple, none hindering Him.

    13. After a time He went into Assyria, India, Persia, and into the land of the Chaldeans. He visited their temples, conversed with their priests and their wise men for many years, and doing many wonderful works, healing the sick as He passed through their countries.

    14. The beasts of the field had respect to Him, and the birds of the air were in no fear of Him, for He did not make them afraid. Yea, even the wild beasts of the desert perceived the power of Yahuwah in Him, and did Him service bearing Him from place to place.

    15. The Spirit of Divine Humanity filled Him, filled all things around Him, and made all things subject to Him. Thus are fulfilled the words of the prophets: The lion will lie down with the calf, the leopard with the kid, the wolf with the lamb, the bear with the donkey, the owl with the dove, and a child will lead them.

    16. None will hurt or destroy in my sacred mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the sacred One, even as the waters cover the bed of the sea. In that day I will make again a covenant with the beasts of the earth, the fowls of the air, the fishes of the sea, and with all created things. I will break the bow and the sword. I will banish all the instruments of warfare from the earth, and will make them to lie down in safety, to live without fear.

    17. I will betroth you to me forever in righteousness, in peace, and in loving kindness. You will know Yahuwah, and the earth will bring forth the corn, the wine, and the oil. I will say to those who were not my people: You are my people. Then they will say to me: You are our Father.

    18. On a certain day He was passing by a mountainside, near to the desert. A lion met Him there, many men were pursuing him with stones and javelins to kill him.

    19. Yahushuah rebuked them, saying: Why do you hunt these creatures of Yahuwah, who are more noble than you? By the cruelties of many generations they were made the enemies of man who should have been his friends.

    20. If the power of Yahuwah is shown in them, so also is shown His long-suffering and compassion. Cease to persecute this creature who does not desire to harm you. See how he flees from you, and is terrified by your violence?

    21. The lion came and lay at the feet of Yahushuah, and showed love to Him. The people were astonished, and said: Lo, this man loves all creatures. He has power to command even these beasts from the desert, and they obey Him.

    Chapter 7

    1. In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate was governor of Yahudah, Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, Caiaphas was the high priest, and Annas chief of the Sanhedrim. The Word of Yahuwah came to Yahuchanan the son of Zachariyah, in the wilderness.

    2. He came into all the country about Yordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. It is written in the prophets: Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.
