    MAYA HAD ALWAYS FELT like the odd one out in her family. She was the youngest of four siblings, and from an early age, she felt like she did not fit in. Her older brothers and sisters were all outgoing and popular, while Maya was quiet and reserved. She spent a lot of time alone, reading books and drafting stories in her journal.

    Despite her introverted nature, Maya was always aware of her father's jealousy and resentment towards her. He would often make comments about how Maya was his favorite child, or how she was the only one who ever listened to him. Maya's mother tried to protect her from these comments, but she could only do so much. Maya could feel the weight of her father's expectations on her, and it was suffocating.

    As Maya got older, she started to see how her father's favoritism was affecting her relationships with her siblings. Her brothers and sisters resented her for the special treatment she received, and Maya could not blame them. She did not want to be the favorite; she just wanted to be treated like everyone else.

    Maya's father's jealousy was not limited to just her siblings. He would often argue with her mother about Maya, accusing her of spoiling her and giving her too much attention. Maya's mother tried to defend her, but it seemed like no matter what she did, her father was never satisfied.
