About this ebook

When our life is turned upside down, how do we respond? We do not have control over certain circumstances in our lives, but we can control how we respond to those circumstances. So often, when we think of our lives as being turned upside down, we have actually been set on the right path to becoming who God intended for us to be. While trials and sufferings are hard, the truth remains that we, on our own, would not choose to follow close to Jesus to dwell in the secret place of the Most High.

Grace's hope is that through this book, others who are living with chronic conditions will find the same hope in Jesus that she has found. Follow along for forty days of learning how to view our circumstances through the eyes of Jesus as we learn to allow Jesus to make something beautiful from the ashes of our lives.

    About the Author

    Dear reader,

You may be reading this book because you are able to identify with the subject of chronic pain. Whether you live it yourself or love and care for someone who does, no matter the reasons for you picking up this book, I pray that God speaks to you in the way He spoke to me as I wrote each entry.

    My story in brief:

At the age of twenty-five, I slipped on ice, the back of my head taking the full impact of the fall. It was later diagnosed as three concussions in rapid succession. It caused permanent nerve damage in my brain and throughout my head and face. I was diagnosed with trigeminal, occipital, and supraorbital neuralgia, as well as chronic migraine and hemiplegic migraines. Over the years, I had other mishaps that resulted in four more concussions.

Through my journey of chronic pain, I have experienced severe depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. I went through counseling for a time and was given some helpful tools in being able to overcome the suicidal thoughts. After coming through that season, I entered a new chapter where Jesus began to teach me so many valuable lessons.

I began writing these devotionals in early 2020 at the request of a friend. I never dreamed I would be here with a book published, sharing my journey with so many people. God is so good, and I am so thankful for all He has done and is still doing.

I dedicate this book to my daddy, who went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2020. He loved me so well and demonstrated the love of Jesus every day. Not a minute goes by that I don't miss him or feel him with me. Love you, Daddy. Forever your little girl.

    Day 1

    Perspective in Pain

Perspective is so important, and while it doesn't change the pain, it changes how we cope with it all. I'd like to share a quote from Elisabeth Elliot that I read recently and that has stayed with me and been encouraging in this journey.

And I've come to see that it's through the deepest suffering that God has taught me the deepest lessons. And if we'll trust Him for it, we can come through to the unshakable assurance that He's in charge. He has a loving purpose. And He can transform something terrible into something wonderful. Suffering is never for nothing. (Elisabeth Elliot)

My prayer for you all is that Jesus meets you where you are at, in the midst of your pain. That He carries you through, the way He carries me every day. That He gives you renewed strength for each day. That you feel His love and His presence in a new way. And if this week involves appointments, surgeries, and treatments, I pray that Jesus gives you relief, that Jesus gives you the peace that only He can give. I pray that, in the moments of your worst pain, Jesus will make Himself known and that He will hold you close to His heart. I pray that you find new courage for this journey. One day at
