Part 1

It was late summer on the grounds of Pacific State University. Those students registering for classes for the first time were in line to see if they were able to get into the classes they signed up while those who already did earlier this year were making arrangements to stay in the many dormitories nearby campus. With her classes already decided and signed up, Claire Daniels was looking for a place to stay. She had been referred to one of the many apartments by her guidance counselor as she was searching out for the representatives of said apartments until something had caught her eye.

At a table on the other side of the Stonegate Student Union were two young women dressed in light blue oxford shirts. The contents they wore below their waists were concealed behind a tapestry that read ALPHA BETA ALPHA. The letters were of University typeface and colored navy blue across a field of light powder blue that colored the tapestry concealing their lower garments. Claire stood in the middle of the student union hall for a moment to contemplate on what to do next. Should she still make her way to the reps from the apartment complex on campus or should she just check out what the sorority was offering in terms of room and board. She felt the pressure upon herself to make her next move as she felt herself become torn between the two options.....until.....

Hey sweetie! Why dontcha come on down to our table for a spell?!, yelled one of the two young ladies who had saw her standing in the middle of the aisle. She had been waving her hand to Claire just as she was noticing that she was being beckoned forth to her and her sorority mate. Taking this as an incentive, the young 18-year old girl made her way down to the table that read ALPHA BETA ALPHA on its tapestry and introduced herself to the two girls.

Hi, I'm Claire Daniels, and you both are....

Cynthia Peterson....

And Karen Turner, how do you do?

The blonde haired girl who was dressed in just shorts, a t-shirt, and sneakers shook her hands with both women in the light blue oxford shirts. Cynthia was a transplanted Texan who always wore a beat-up yellow straw cowboy hat upon her wavy medium blond haired head. She spoke with a proper West Texas twang in her voice while Karen was a lighter blonde-haired girl who wore her hair in pigtails because she wanted everyone to know that she was still a virgin which caught Claire by surprise as well.

Lookin' for a place t'stay, darlin'?,asked Cindy who had her hands hidden from view behind the tapestry.

Yes, I am looking for an apartment to stay for the Fall Semester. In fact, I'm supposed to meet some people from the complex who are going to square me on it right away.

Why bother? You should know that today's apartments are a bitch because they happen to be very expensive so you're better off seeking shelter and board with us, replied Karen who had a habit of twirling her red ribboned pigtails whenever she was meeting someone knew.

Claire took that into consideration, but could not help but notice Karen twirling her pigtailed hair.

Wanna join our little fraternity, Claire? We're looking for new recruits, asked Cindy in her distinctive Texas twang.

For once, Claire was surprised for a moment as she dared herself to ask the next following question.

You girls....are....a fraternity?

Well, yeah, darlin'. Whaddya wanna know?

You mean you two ladies are from a fraternity because I thought I was being called over to you because you were a sorority or something.

You gotta be kidding us, right?

Well, I assumed you ladies belonged to some sorority that was seeking new pledges for your club.

Darlin', you should know that we are a fraternity because, in fact, we happen to belong to the first ever women's fraternity ever on any campus. Still got a problem with it?

No, no. No problem. I was just surprised by what you told me, but anyway, I'm looking for a place to stay during the Fall Term. I got my classes all figured out and signed up for so what do I need to do for room and board?

Cindy and Karen looked at each other slyly before returning their gaze towards the potential recruit who had just been beckoned to them by their own hand.

Just step right behind the tapestry and we will see if we can give an application form to sign,beckoned Karen as Claire nervously made her way behind the banner.

Once she got herself behind it, she was in for an even bigger surprise!

Karen and Cindy were wearing bright navy plaid kilts under their oxford shirts. Cindy's boots were well worn while Karen's sneakers were nearly worn out.

You girls are wearing kilts? Any reason I should know about?

You'll see once we get you into the application process, said Karen as she handed her an application sheet once Claire sat herself down at a desk nearby.

What she did not notice was that three more girls had just come by the table to inquire about joining the first ever women's fraternity on the PSU campus.

It was later in the day that her mentor, Janet, had found her waiting for her outside the student union building that was facing the parking lot of the campus. Once she had gotten herself in on the shotgun side of her Janet's Lamborghini, she compelled herself to relate the news to her regarding her living arrangements for the Fall Semester.
