How has fashion become one of the most blogged and interesting topics among people?  Is it because it is an expression of art, the combination of Picasso and clothing which adorns the body?  Welcome to the world of Mia Meyers, a young fourteen-year-old with a passion for the fashion world, but a histrionic sense of morals that always find herself surrounded by drama!  Her studies, however, are not that interesting and she finds herself an at-risk student on the brink of failing.  Now she sets her sights on a fashion contest that can whisk her away from the tragedy of boredom and into a private school dedicated to art, fashion, and design and learn the true meaning of being a fashion designer.  Along her travels across New York, she meets interesting and whimsical characters that will help her on her way, or simply make her laugh, whichever she feels is the better at the time.

Follow the Mia Meyers series about a young middle schooler with a drive to become a fashion designer.  Throughout the series, she starts her fashion adventure as a daydreamer in class and an avid artist to eventually joining a fashion club and starting her own fashion company!  Her whimsical personality always lands her in trouble with teachers and her fellow peers.

    Daydreams in the jungle

    Chapter 1

The yellow line became a runway as the cars transformed into models holding silver plates in both hands.  A white-haired model emerged from the white smoke wearing metallic rainbow high-heeled rain boots and a matching evening dress. Over this, the model wore pearl necklaces and earrings. Golden tassels glistened as they dangled down another dark crimson lipsticked model’s ears and puffy hair buns with extra added volume.  Mia could almost hear the excitement from Sarah and Stephanie from Flashkool, an artistic social media platform, as she would show them and other followers, short clips of the runway as an esteemed fashion designer sitting among the front rows.  Her models that she selected would all be wearing her outfits.  Back to the models, Mia thought, as she imagined her tassels sparkled with golden suns as they scattered lights throughout the runway as pulsating trance music echoed through the snow-colored pillars and drapes that hung over the runway.  As each model sashayed towards the end of the runway, their shadows would cast upward with the light.  Mia could see the runway lit with dramatic uplighting that would illuminate the runway and wa....

    Ms. Mia!

Huh....Oh. Yes.  What is it?  Mia said as her eyes darted from the cars and brick buildings outside her classroom to Sanford, the stern woman standing in front of the white board.  Mia rose from her desk to throw away a doodled paper before giving a twirl at the trashcan to showcase her self-made peach pleather shorts and plastic polka-dotted rain coat she was wearing that day.  Mia could hear the snickering growing from a few students to the entire room that replaced the music and then a staggering silence.

Sanford tightened her stern jaw as she turned from writing the fourth question on the white board.  Mia thought of Sanford as a stereotype comes true as a typical older teacher whose grayish-black hair often found itself in a bun matching her authoritarian attitude.  Sanford had a thin, but rather strong, wiry frame that made her feel uncomfortable.  Mia looked over to the right of the problems to see the words Tuesday and geometry class were written on the white board.  Beside it was a quote written in cursive that was written in red, as opposed to everything else written in blue, read:

The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination.

Below the words were the picture of Albert Einstein sticking out his tongue in that famous picture that humored Mia because of its sharp contrast between the picture’s playfulness and Sanford’s seriousness.  The slight laughter from the students surrounded Mia like sharp, cold waves that went through her as she tried to push out the worst that could happen from wearing her new, self-made clothing to school.

Here’s to another week in the city of Dudley.  Mia thought as she started digging her hand in her book bag and feeling through the bumps and roundness of her pins for a pencil to bring comfort to the lonely math book and study guide.

Mia Meyers was a petite thirteen-year-old with white hair she had dyed over her natural black hair that flowed over her shoulders and reached her lower back.

We’re going over last week’s study guide in preparations for the final this Thursday, so it would help if you had your study guide prepared and ready to go over the correct answers.  Sanford said.

Come up here and answer number five. Sanford replied, And where’s your writing utensils.

I’m sorry.  I forgot them. Mia replied, still looking down into her book bag.  Anyways, I’m still trying to correct the last problem.  Can you come back to me later? She looked down at her opened math book filled with sheets of paper covered with smile faces, rainbows, and candy canes.  Mia felt a nudge come from Elizabeth Peterson as she handed Mia a mechanical pencil from her purse.  Elizabeth was her tutor whom her teachers had put together for Mia to improve her grades.  Elizabeth had a wide, obtuse frame and broad shoulders.  Elizabeth had long blond hair that she kept in a ponytail, perfectly cut bangs that went over her eyebrows, and often wore lip gloss over her thin lips.  She adjusted her black purse to get out a pen for herself as she marked a huge checkmark for number four being correct.  Sanford gave Linda, a girl whose shiny black hair was always worn into two low ponytails, a quick nod as she placed the black dry erase pen down for Linda to pick up.  A few chuckles came from Morgan Smith, who peered up from her smartphone, and Jacob.  Morgan Smith was a rather slender, tall teenager with short blond hair whose lips were often in a nude-lipsticked pouting state, and whose eyes were often squinted in disgust, as they often were caked with mascara and eye liner, as Mia knew her as her half-sister.  Jacob, meanwhile, was a muscular framed thirteen-year-old, who Mia often saw talking with Morgan, and often flirted with her.  Mia often laughed along with them, even though she wasn’t included in their inside jokes.

What’s the point; Ms. Sanford, she won’t know it then either.  Morgan Smith commented as she twisted her upper lip and squinted her dark eye-lined eyes.

And what are you wearing, Mia, you look like a mess! Jacob chimed in as they continue to laugh.  Jacob playfully nudged Morgan Smith.

It’s a very cute outfit. Morgan Smith said as she then covered her mouth.

Okay, Ms. Morgan Smith, one sound from you and its Wayne’s office, and that goes for you as well, Mr. Jacob.  And put that phone away in my class. Sanford snapped as she then turned towards Linda, who had just finished writing the answer.  Wayne’s office was a place very familiar to both Morgan Smith and Mia, who have frequently been disruptive to the class productivity as Sanford would say.  Mia could now hear her pencil scratching the surface of her paper as she tried to examine her evening dress for mistakes.  She looked up to hear a few more snickering throughout the classroom.

Anthelia must have used her homework again to make that paper mache cat.  That apartment won’t allow pets. Morgan Smith muttered to Jacob.

Shut up, Morgan Smith! Mia shouted.  I can get the problem right; I just needs more time.  And F.Y.I., no matter what you or Sarah think of her, she would never do something like that.

You don’t tell me to shut up, I tell you to shut up, for everyone’s sake.  Morgan Smith taunted as Mia heard a few more chuckling students behind her.

That goes for you too, Ms. Mia. Sanford commented as she lifted her head from the board to look at her students.

I need everyone’s attention at this time. Sanford said as the class became silent. As a reminder, the fashion contest held at Manhattan’s theater is this Saturday.  If you are competing, I seriously consider not putting this off until the last minute.  As I have seen from your homework, it's not a good idea.  Sanford continued as Mia could hear loud stilettos walk from the board towards her desk.  Mia sighed slightly as she could once again hear her pencil scratching her paper.

What contest is this? Linda asked, turning her head as her long ponytails flapped against the air.

As quoted earlier in class by Ms. Sanford, if you were paying attention, you would have already known this. Morgan Smith replied as a jolt of laughter followed.  Linda smirked slightly as she looked from Sanford to Morgan Smith, who was now locking eyes with Jacob.

It’s a fashion contest. Elizabeth snapped as she continued writing over her correct problem."

    Oh, thanks Elizabeth.  Linda replied
