Vixen - Shamima Gaffoor
Chapter: 1
Ever heard curiosity killed the cat?
Well, curiosity got me killed...
She walked into 432 Park Avenue like a raging tornado destroying everything in its path, she owned the second-highest building in Manhattan
At just twenty-three, she had her empire.
Wearing one of those tight-fitting black dresses and black stilettos heels, her beautiful white skin beamed from underneath, making it hard for me to look away.
Eighteen and fresh out of high-school, my very first corporate interview...
My sweaty palms held on tightly to my resume. Unfortunately, the only experience I currently have was carrying around steaming hot pizzas, which I hated by the way.
A few men joined me on the couch placed across HER door, they all looked in their twenties.
Clearly I was the youngest one there, and they made it known by shoving me in the far corner of the seat.
Most of them looked out of shape. How they made it up twenty-five flights of stairs, beats me.
The advertisement stated that we walk up instead of taking the elevator, mentioning some sort of fitness test before the actual interview. I found it a bit ridiculous because the position was administration.
Mr. Pillay
someone called out.
Complete silence followed by another announcement from behind the huge ivory desk, her tiny body popped up, she cleared her throat before calling out.
Mr. Pillay
she shouted before shrugging her shoulders and plopping herself down again. She typed a few keys before letting out a soft sigh.
She stood up once again, this time holding a clipboard close to her half exposed chest
Mr. Temple, Mr. Wallace and Mr. Matthews you may leave!
she said, her voice was loud and stern this time.
All three of them stood up, disappointment filled their faces as they walked towards the elevator.
She cleared her throat, getting their attention, I've been instructed by Mrs. Addison that you three may use the stairwell.
she said as her index finger sharply pointed in the direction of the exit door. The middle man protested the idea of walking down twenty-five stairs, of course, as soon as he reached his hand out towards the elevator button her door cracked open.
He retracted his hand and politely apologized, retreating like a scared little puppy towards the stairwell. He knew better than to mess with one of Manhattan's most powerful women.
As soon as those three fools left, her door slammed shut, she was clearly annoyed by their actions.
Mr. Daniels,
she announced, holding out a yellow envelope, he looked pretty happy with whatever was handed to him.
Half his body flew across the massive table, giving her a tight hug, she stood there awkwardly for a few seconds.
OK, OK, we will see you bright and early tomorrow morning, Mr. Daniels.
she squeaked as she tried shoving him away.
There goes my chance!
I sighed loudly, which got her to half laugh from behind her desk. The last man was announced to enter her office; which took about five minutes before he exited.
He walked straight towards the elevator, tapping his shoe against the hardwood floor while he waited.
Psst...
she called out.
Psst, get ready, you're next.
She whispered before calling out my name.
Mr. Richards, Mrs. Addison will see you now
she said, a slight smile formed on her face as she pointed towards the closed door. My heart ran a marathon in my chest as I stood there holding the doorknob, I took in a deep breath before opening it up. She sat behind an even bigger desk than the one in reception, hiding most of her body underneath it.
Her eyes stayed focused on the screen, sighing loudly. I hate Mondays, don't you?
she said.
My eyes widened, I'm sure I looked like one of those deer caught in the headlights.
Ah yeah I'm sure most people hate Mondays after a remarkable weekend
I mumbled beneath my breath.
Finally, she looked up; her big brown eyes gazed at me. Can you run?
she whispered.
Yet again, another ridiculous question.
Of course, I ran quarterback for a few years, but how would she know?
She barely looked at me for two seconds before staring back down at her laptop.
Yes, I can run, ma'am. Where would you like me to go?
I asked bravely.
Ah, smug I see
she whispered.
Have you been to Valentino's?
Not giving me a chance to answer her she said, I would like a large latte, double cheeseburger, large fries and ah something sweet, you choose.
W.T.F.
I grinned, stretching my arm out towards her, Can I help you?
she asked with a stern look upon her beautiful face.
Money
I said as I reached out closer towards her.
If she was going to mess with me, I was sure as hell going to mess with her...
She stretched her arms behind her head pushing the chair back to inspect me, her hand soon reached the tiny clip holding her hair together, tugging it gently. Long brown hair fell onto her face.
God, I hate Mondays!
she said as she tossed her now loose hair to the back.
You look less uptight this way
I said, I held on to my mouth, but it was too late she had already heard it.
She raised a brow at me and threw her long legs onto the desk, pushing the office chair a bit more back, making herself comfortable.
I like you,
she whispered.
Yeah, you'll do well here. Please let yourself out, Amy will give you instructions
she said, her voice now taking a serious tone.
I walked out gently closing the door behind me not wanting to embarrass myself any further.
Soooo here you go
she cheerfully expressed, handing me a red envelope. Be here at nine, she doesn't like tardiness.
My mind was completely hot wired. Instead of thanking the girl I walked towards the stairs like a zombie causing her to chuckle as I continued walking.
Chapter: 2
Afew streets down , I snapped out of the daze, stopping in front of Valentino's. Contemplating for a few minutes while my hand held on to the push doors, heck, she basically asked me to get her lunch.
The lady behind the till gave me a huge welcome smile as I approached her. How can I help you today, sir?
Crap my resume...
Now I had no choice but to place the order and walk five blocks. I'll have a double cheeseburger, large fries, a large Latte and uhm something sweet.
She raised her brow at me, something sweet, huh?
Is this for a lady friend of yours?
Well technically she is my boss, I start work tomorrow
I said.
Soft laughter left her lips, already running errands I see, well, if she's one of those snobs I suggest a double chocolate truffle, maximum carbs.
Brushing the blond hair back, thinking about it for a second, yeah, why not, a few carbs wouldn't hurt right?
Good choice
she whispered with a wink and another sexy smile as she rang up my order.
You guys take cards?
I whispered.
Yeah, but my machine has been giving me problems all day.
Well, there goes my cab fare back home...
The walk back to her building took forever. The security guard at reception gave me a sideways look as I nervously waited for the elevator.
You're on your way to Mrs. Addison?
he shouted.
Yeah,
I whispered, still trying to catch my breath, he looked at the gigantic clock placed on the wall. Better make it snappy, son, she usually leaves at two.
Just five minutes left on the clock I decided to run back up instead of waiting for the lift which stopped on every floor. Trying to hold everything together as I sped up.
I'd be so embarrassed if I had to ruin her lunch...
Just as I made it to reception, her door cracked open, Amy gave me a stern look. What are you doing back here?
Lunch,
I whispered, even more winded than I was before.
Silly boy, she didn't actually mean you should get her lunch.
Yeah, well, I forgot my resume.
You're strange.
I know,
I replied, giving her a half smile as I sucked air in like a crazy person.
Mrs. Addison closed her office door, not paying attention to what transpired between Amy and me.
Amy, get a hold of Mr. Addison and let him know I'll be in meetings all afternoon
she ordered.
Her hips swayed from side to side as she carried on walking, looking down at her phone, not paying attention to where she was going.
Yes Ma'am
she replied.
Aren't you going to tell her I'm here?
No, be quiet, you're going to get me into trouble,
she whispered.
Uhm, Ma'am,
I called out in a low yet noticeable tone.
She turned her head in what looked like slow motion scene; before I knew it, I stood in front of her, still trying to breathe like a normal human being.
Yes, Mr. Richards, how may I help you?
she asked with a raised brow.
Wow, she remembered my name...
Lunch,
I said as my trembling hands held up the red and gold Valentino's bag in front of her face.
Raising her perfectly shaped brow at me. What is it?
she asked with a bit of sarcasm in her voice.
It's my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Her eyes widened, really?
she asked excitedly.
Letting out a loud laugh, it's the order you placed half an hour ago
I said.
Her expression changed immediately, peanut butter and jelly sandwich sounded much more appetizing.
She sighed loudly and gracefully took the bag from my hand, well thank you
she whispered before turning around doing that model walk down the long hallway.
What just happened? One minute she wants Valentino’s and next she wants a P and J sandwich. I'm sure all billionaires must be insane...
Amy overheard the entire conversation, yet asking her wouldn't be of much help, she looked just as confused as I was.
I took the stairs back down, my mind needed to process what had just happened, she was a confusing lady.
Yet again, not having much experience with the opposite sex, most women I came across confused me.
Chapter: 3
Going back to the tiny apartment my parents rented out for me until I got my life in order depressed me. Sure, they kicked me out after I refused the whole collage idea.
Fuck, I wasn't going to follow their high society bullshit...
With my dad being a judge and mother being a private practitioner, things were easy until I graduated. Thinking about the demons, and they pop up on my iPhone. Telephone bill paid by them, of course.
Hey mum
I mumbled into the screen.
How did your interview go, honey?
Uhm well I got it, Mrs. Addison is a bit... stopping midway through my sentence,
yeah mum I got the job" I whispered.
I'm glad, now your father and I can stop swaddling you and go on that well-deserved Jamaican holiday.
I almost gagged at the thought of them being alone in a room. You guys are millionaires mum; you can go on vacation at any time
I said, trying to hold in my frustration.
Sure we can, we are just choosing to do it with your allowance,
he shouted from the background.
Hi, dad
I whispered as I let out a loud sigh, sure it's your choice.
Damn right it is
He said, his stern voice echoing through the speaker.
Your mother has been spoiling you for far too long, if you ask me,
he said.
Mum I got to go uhm, Jessica is on the other line
I said not giving them a chance to respond, I hung up. Immediately face timing Jessica, she, of course, answered after the fifth ring.
Hey Barbie, You're busy?
I shouted into the screen.
Her face looked puffed up, almost like she spent the entire night partying. Nah, just trying on a bunch of skanky photo shoot clothes
she mumbled.
Sounds fun, how about you model a few times for me
