FOR BRUCE KIRBY WHO LIKES STORIES ABOUT COWBOYS, GUNFIGHTERS AND OUTLAWS. I HOPE HE LIKES THESE.
Jasper Holcomb might just have had the shortest career as a gunfighter in the west. He was not particularly famous for his skill with a pistol. He was the son of storekeeper. During the war, the whole town, along with the family business, were burned to the ground by the Union army. General Sherman’s name came up. Since this happened around the same time as the Lawrence massacre, there are barely any records of the event. Jasper had fought with the South and came to find his home and family gone. He started to drift, making a living anyway he could. The reason for this story was Mr. Holcomb rode with R.B. Colby for a time.
