To all of my children and grandchildren. What a wonderful blessing from God to have each of you in my life. May God bless you and keep you and guide you as you walk out your life in service to our Lord and Savior.
Acknowledgments
Saying thank you to people, pastors, teachers, friends, relatives, and so many others seems only fitting. Thank you to all those people who have encouraged and supported me as I have walked on this journey. Truly, none of us will live out this life flying solo. We are most definitely stronger together.
Introduction
Someone once said that a Christian is or should be a sermon in shoes read by all whom he or she encounters. For those who take their Christian testimony seriously, this should sound like a mighty responsibility. Knowing that not one day passes without someone observing and evaluating your life and your lifestyle, which one of us would dare to assume that we are a good reflection of our Lord Jesus Christ? And yet we are called to be Christlike in all our ways.
As we move into our relationship with Christ, we encounter a glaring truth which is that we are not perfect people, just forgiven. We also realize that beginning the Christian life is merely stepping into a new arena. It is an arena of hope, change, and great achievement. This arena may, however, seem like a thousand-piece puzzle where each piece contains its own picture. Each piece could represent a day, a week, or at the very least a portion of your life. To put this puzzle together so that it communicates the intent of its creator is no small task. As a matter of fact, you may even think that the creator of this puzzle had a warped approach to life. However, we must remember that each creator can do as they will with their own creation.
The ultimate goal is to produce something that is unique, useful, and enduring. Unique, because it is not like any other creation. Useful, because it was never designed to sit on a shelf but rather to fulfill the desire of the creator. Enduring, because the creator wishes the creation to impact the current generation and many to come.
To assume that you and I are creators is presumptuous to say the least. However, in the hands of an omnipotent and omniscient God, our lives become significant vessels of change affecting our own life, our families, and the lives of all those we encounter.
My friends, we all search for lives of significance. For some, that time comes early in life as life may be very short for them. For others, that time may be in what we call the autumn of their life for they have lived seventy, eighty, or possibly ninety years.
It does not cease to amaze how that as people face challenging events and circumstances of life that they are ready to make changes in an effort to restore a certain sense of control or comfort only to revert back to former ways when the crisis has past or subsided.
God, the Great Creator, is calling us to a high place in him. This is a place of honor and significant influence. However, this place, while available to all, is reserved for those who will allow God to touch them. This writing is not about the place of honor that God offers, but rather it is about the journey
