About this ebook

What's wrong with these kids? You know the ones . . . tattooed skin, pierced body parts, sagging pants so low their undergarments show, clothing exposing lots of skin, flip-flops worn during winter, hair the color of the rainbow, and let's not forget the colorful language. Can a teacher teach these kids? The answer is a resounding yes! Believe it or not, most of them want to learn, and whether or not it is exhibited through their actions what they desire most of all is structure and discipline. This book was written not only out of my desire to share why I wanted to become a teacher but most importantly how my steps were divinely directed of the Lord. As you read through these pages, I hope you will find what I discovered. God had a plan for my life, and when I put my trust in Him, He equipped and empowered me to become all that He desired of me. What He did for me He will also do for you, as stated in Romans 2:11, "For there is no respect of persons with God."

    Preface

(All Scriptures are taken from King James Version of the Bible)

I am not a counselor nor do I profess to know every aspect of the psychology of teaching adolescents, but what I do know is when I allowed Jesus to be the center of my teaching I developed a passion and zeal for teaching far beyond anything I could ever have hoped for or imagined. And with the leading of the Holy Spirit, I was able to implement divine strategies that were instrumental in defusing inappropriate behavior, fostered discipline, self-control, and promoted a classroom environment conducive for learning.

Your decision to become an educator is not a mistake for with God all things are possible. Trust and believe His word for they are everything you need to be successful in every area of your life including teaching today’s youth. I sincerely hope you will enjoy your journey as much as I have enjoyed mine.

    Chapter 1

    In the Beginning

While growing up, church attendance was not an option. My mother did not have a car, but that did not stop her from waking my sisters and me on Sunday mornings to get ready for church. No matter the weather, rain or sleet or snow, it did not keep us from church attendance; we either rode the bus or my mother called for a taxi. We not only arrived in time to attend Sunday school, we also stayed for church service. Some of the activities I participated in were singing in the children’s choir and being a member of the Junior Usher Board. Church was not only fun, but it was here where I developed friendships and most importantly where I learned about God. I learned how to pray and the importance of giving God some of my time, not only on Sunday but throughout the week.

Church attendance not only continued throughout my childhood, teens, and young adult years. It was an important part of my life when I became a parent. My children and I regularly attended church service, participated in a variety of church activities, and had daily prayer before leaving
