Unrevealed Promise - Kim Philia
Chapter 1
Playdates
Excitement swept through the house as Kim and her three-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, prepared for their regular Tuesday playdates. Friends of Kim’s began arriving with their three-year-old children for a day of fun and laughs and wonderful childhood energy. Parents watched their precious and, by now, very colorful children paint plaster-of-Paris creatures on the backyard sidewalk.
A little paint got on their animals, and a lot was running down their legs. Red and green soon became brown as the little hands swept vigorously back and forth over and over. The fun continued for several hours as it did every Tuesday.
Kim’s open-door policy made it so that the children in the neighborhood felt comfortable going over there on a daily basis. They all knew that there was always fun to be had inside the navy blue-colored door on Fourth Street. Once inside, there were no limits to the activities enjoyed by the various children in the house from playing house and helping make meat loaf to rocking out with feather boas or capes, their choice.
Tuesdays were always the most fun day of the week. Both Kim and Elizabeth enjoyed sharing their typical day of fun with the people they liked most. To anyone on the outside, theirs appeared to be the perfect life.
Chapter 2
Prince
Yet these days had followed several years of agony.
As Kim graduated college and began her career as an assistant director of a hospital fitness center, Kim met a handsome man who stood six feet two inches, broad shoulders, brown hair, green eyes, and a manly fragrance emitted from this man named Steve. It seemed that Steve was everything that most women wish for. He was polite, intelligent, business savvy, and chivalrous. To Kim, he was a rare gem in the sea of ordinary men.
Through several months of dating, she truly believed that he was a good man—a man that would show her much affection and place her high upon his pedestal. Steve had followed in his father’s footsteps and now owned five corporations, each of which produced a substantial amount of money.
Needless to say, he was also quite well off. Steve never spared any expense when it came to treating Kim to his wealth for he knew that she did not have the same opportunities growing up that he did. Each date, he would take Kim to some extravagant places. It was no big deal for them to simply hop on a private jet and head to New York City to catch the opening performance of Cats on Broadway. While Kim embraced this huge change in lifestyle, it soon began to wear on her self-esteem and morals.
Not long after they met, Kim found herself in bed with Steve. With his body pressed against hers, the sweet masculine smell of his cologne enticed her to mold their two bodies together.
A few weeks later, as Kim went to brush her teeth, she immediately threw up because of the taste of her toothpaste. At this point, Kim started to put together the pieces of the recent weeks and noticed that this feeling of nausea was becoming more common. She had also been experiencing more fatigue after doing her regular tasks.
Once she realized that she had been enduring these symptoms for about a month, she went to the store for a pregnancy test kit. As her urine dripped on the stick and she anxiously awaited the results, she already knew in her heart that she was pregnant. Sure enough, the strip turned blue, and Kim’s life changed forever.
She sat down to think, to contemplate her options. On one hand, she was elated to be pregnant and had confidence that she would make a good mother. She held an assistant director’s job at the local hospital fitness lab so she also knew that financially she would be okay even if Steve wasn’t there for her. But on the other hand, she knew the major factor of her concern. She wanted Steve to be as excited as she was, and she couldn’t help but dream of them living happily ever after together.
With shaking hands and a nervous voice, she called Steve and asked him to come over. Breaking the news to Steve was easier than she expected for he knew even before he arrived and was also excited for their upcoming surprise. However, telling his mother was an entirely different story.
Chapter 3
Evil Mother-in-Law
Sarah, Steve’s mother, was a rich and powerful woman who had become quite accustomed to getting whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted it. Sarah paced back and forth silently as Steve broke the news of Kim’s pregnancy, and that they had made plans to get married.
Instead of discussing the situation with them, Sarah did what she always did when she felt like she was losing control; she took it right back. She informed Kim that despite her son’s feelings for her that the situation was not acceptable for her family, and she should leave immediately. Sarah sat on the arm of her cherry-wood and green-colored Ethan Allen couch and firmly stated, You are not good enough for this family, and you never will be.
But if anyone was to stand up to Sarah, it was her son. He placed his arm around Kim and simply repeated his intentions, Kim is pregnant, and we will get married.
Kim felt protected under Steve’s arms yet Sarah’s glare was a vicious note of animosity. As the two of them left her house and returned to Steve’s home, Kim was disappointed that she hadn’t won over Steve’s mother but was comforted in the amount of protection she had received from Steve.
Kim was the high school homecoming queen and enjoyed, actually even thrived off, the people liking her. Her smile won her numerous friends and could elicit conversations from strangers. To have someone despise her was a foreign and very unwelcomed feeling.
As the wedding plans began, Sarah’s wealth became more apparent with every detail. Every aspect was as if it served as a reminder of her new family’s position in society. Sarah would not allow Kim’s parents to join in on the planning. The fact that they had lived a lower to middle class lifestyle seemed to haunt Sarah in ways that they could not understand. Unfortunately, this left Steve’s mom in charge and Kim feeling as though she had to agree for the sake of their relationship and hoping to win over Sarah someday somehow.
The church where the wedding was held was huge cathedral style. It had large stained-glass windows that allowed rays of multicolored light to shine through like a rainbow. White orchids and soft pink flowers flowed
