Your Plans versus God’s Purpose: Unmasking Your Identity

    Unmasking Your Identity

Living the adventure God planned for you is not just another pursuit. It is the reason you were born! God did not make a mistake when He made you. He knew exactly what He was doing. Nothing about you surprises God. He knew you before He formed you in your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5), and He intentionally created and knit you together as a masterpiece with purpose.

Before we were even born, He gave us our destiny; that we would fulfill the plan of God who always accomplishes every purpose and plan in His heart. (Ephesians 1:11 TPT)

Despite what you have been through, God has not changed His mind about who you are or what you are destined to become. His plan for you was established long before you were born and was never an afterthought. He has not changed His mind. The struggle is getting you to change yours.

You may not believe in yourself, but God believes in you.

God’s desire is to unmask the lies that you have believed about yourself in order to release the potential lying dormant within you. How God sees you is not the problem—it is how you see yourself that keeps you from succeeding. You may not believe in yourself, but God believes in you. Nobody can spot potential like Jesus, and He will never give up on you! He never bases your worth and potential on what people think—and that includes you. He bases it on what He thinks, and what He thinks trumps what anyone thinks. The only way to discover what God really thinks about you is to crack open your Bible and read it in black and white—and sometimes red. You might just be amazed to find out how highly God thinks of you.

The same God who created mountains, oceans, and galaxies looked at you and thought the world needed one of you. You are unique in all the world, and that makes you special—to God and to others. Nobody can replace you. The world would not be complete without you. The Creator made you for a specific purpose. Your responsibility and your joy are to discover it.

God has chosen to use ordinary people like you to accomplish His purposes. It is not about who you are, but about Whose you are. He is the solution to every problem and the answer to every question. God does not use you because of you. He uses you in spite of you. He loves to use ordinary people who are willing to trust Him. It is the ordinary people with extraordinary faith that do mighty things in God’s kingdom. And He loves to see them succeed!

It is true that most people will not understand behavior based on obedience to God. The whole essence of living by faith is acting based on scriptural fact and supernatural power rather than feelings, senses, or what others believe or understand. You do not have to see the whole path, just take the first step. Don’t be surprised when God calls you to step out in faith and do something you do not feel qualified to do. That tends to be His standard operating procedure! He does it so you will lean more on Him and less on yourself. When you feel capable of doing something on your own, you begin to act in ways that are independent of Him. However, a giant looming in front of you stretches your faith and reminds you that you are partnering with a much bigger God. He will never call you to do what you can. He calls you to do what He can. God has a great plan for your life, but you will never fulfill it until you come into agreement with Him and exercise your faith in His ability to make it happen. He alone is your source, strength, strategy, and secret to your success.

God will bless the plans He gives you. Don’t make your own plans and then ask Him to bless them. Just because something is good does
