About this ebook

Life is not a trip. Life is a journey. A trip is a short sprint, but a journey is a marathon race. This book will help you discover the very distinct difference between the two. Three roads. Three narrow roads. Each road helping to keep one man on the right road-the road that leads to eternal life. Some say that roads are meant to be traveled, but the truth of the matter is that some roads are meant to be avoided. In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus declared, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." Ups. Downs. Rights. Wrongs. Choices. Decisions. Everywhere we go, everywhere we look, everywhere we travel, there is always a decision that needs to be made. When we make the right choice, there is a reward. When we make the wrong choice, there is a consequence or a price to pay. While traveling this narrow road, there will be failures and deterrents, but we must continue to travel in the right direction. Changing our direction of travel ultimately leads to death and defeat. You will discover that the greatest part of traveling this narrow road is the fact that it will give you testimonials to share with others to help them along their way. You may even get a sermon to preach! Let's walk with Dr. King, as he explores this narrow road experience, to see where it leads. At the end of the day, the Lord expects all of us to choose him.

    Fast Foreword

It was a Wednesday night, and we had assembled ourselves together at the Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church (a.k.a. The Grove) at 10115 Gonzales Road, St. Francisville, Louisiana, for our weekly Bible class. While our parishioners were arriving and entering the church building, mostly everyone was being met with greetings of Godly hugs and kisses.

As the people of God were walking into the church with looks of great expectation for a powerful Word from heaven, one of the members said, Pastor, these sure are some narrow roads that lead to our three churches (referring to Hickory Grove as well as the two other churches where I serve as the pastor). In fact, the roads that lead to our churches are so narrow that you have to really be careful while driving on them at night, with the many curves and turns, etc. We began to chuckle and others laughed along with us, as everyone hurried on to find their desired seating place to receive the teaching from God’s Word.

I responded by saying, You know what, sister, I’ve never thought about it that way. You’re absolutely right! The roads that lead to all three churches are very narrow; it’s so amazing! When you think about the three churches where I serve as pastor-teacher, they have a whole lot in common; and they are connected in so many ways.

As she went on to her seat, I thanked her for bringing that to my attention, and I informed her that the Lord had just used her mightily. Needless to say, she walked away with a slight look of confusion on her face, not completely understanding what I was referring to. However, I held my peace! The Lord is constantly reminding us and validating the words of our older generations/those who have come before us: The Lord works in some mysterious ways!

Well, it wasn’t quite 7:00 p.m. (start time for Bible class at that time), so I began to ponder those thoughts. I was so excited by what the Lord had spoken into my spirit. I was overly anxious to get back home and begin writing about it. I wanted to tell the story. I wanted to tell this story. I wanted to tell my story. I always knew that it was a very unique story because I knew of no one who was living this story; mainly because of the nature, the history, and the similarities of these three churches. All three of the churches are beautifully constructed (interior and exterior). All three churches have very deep, intense heritage and vast history; and coincidentally, all three churches are located in rural communities with very few houses in the immediate area (we commonly and affectionately refer to this as back in the woods). This means that in order to travel to either churches, one would have to veer off the main highway and travel the winding, narrow roads to actually arrive at either churches.

I have since discovered that many pastors would not want to lead churches in these type of demographical settings. They feel that there is nothing glamorous about it. They feel that there is nothing prestigious about it. They feel that there is not enough notoriety in such an endeavor. As a matter of fact, countless pastors have commented to me. Doc, I couldn’t do it! Why do you continue driving back in the woods like that? How can you do it Sunday after Sunday?

Without fail, my response has always been and will always be the same as some pastors who are doing the same as I am have also stated, Somebody’s got to do it! Frankly, I’m glad that the Lord chose me for such a task.

    Narrow Road Journey

Matthew 7:13–14 makes it very clear. Jesus said, Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

This passage of scripture teaches us to be careful not to entertain any people, places, or things that do not lead us to the Lord; hence, we should reject/ignore it if it is not on our path to haven. We have all heard it said before. "We are living in the last days!" Nothing has been truer than this! Therefore, the Word of God is right! The world has so much to offer but we should not entertain anything that the world may present to
