    Paradoxical Affair - JuWanna Roland

    Chapter 1

On Friday morning of December 17, 2010, who would have known that Alaina Monet, a.k.a. Lil Miss Elegance, would have acquired more than her regular claim to fame? It was the first day of her new job in which would become the beginning of a devastating real-life nightmare. If only she knew how her life was about to be changed; her life wouldn’t be changed for the better but for the worse. Risky Lil Miss Elegance wouldn’t have made most of the choices that she had made.

Alaina Monet had applied for a few positions at reputable intuitions in the city where she was born and raised. She was confident that all her education and skills, along with her charisma and personality, not to mention her looks, would take her places.

After a couple of weeks of waiting to be considered by companies to which she applied, Alaina began to expound on the possibilities of, one day, in the near future, moving to another state if she had heard nothing in a certain amount of time about employment opportunities she had applied at.

While enjoying her afternoon brunch with a glass of red wine, around 1:00 p.m., Alaina’s business cellphone rang, and it was a call from the Roger Jones Occupational Rehab Spine and Cardiac Center. Her face lit up! The light in her eyes was childlike, and the smile on her face was priceless. The individual on the other end was a lady from the Human Resources Department named Mona Groves. Mona was the HR manager in charge of hiring, orientation setup, and sometimes firing. The HR manager Mona asked Alaina if she was still interested in the position as a cardiac sonographer for the night shift and Alaina replied, Yes. Yes, ma’am, I am.

Mona explained to Alaina that she would only be needed three days out of the week and that the hospital schedule was not a typical schedule. The schedule would be the kind she could be in charge of to do her own self scheduling.

Mona then invited Alaina to participate a two-step panel interview for Monday morning, December 20, 2010, at nine o’clock in the morning. That process was done to ensure that she would be a perfect fit for the institution. She happily accepted the offer. Before the phone call was terminated, the rate of pay was discussed, and it was well worth the wait being that no other jobs had extended any employment offers to her.

She got off the phone and yelled so loud, the individuals sitting close by at the table next to her jumped. Alaina was so ecstatic that she started her weekend early with drinks with a few close members from her family.

    Chapter 2

Monday morning couldn’t come fast enough for Alaina; she was eager all night. She hardly slept. Up at seven, she got dressed and was out the door at eight and on the road to her new career. She entered the building where she would soon be working, and off to human resources she went. After a successful interview twice over, she was then directed to go into the training room of the new facility where she would receive her training. This was what she needed to give her a new lease on life. She had pride in her heart, a glow on her face, and pep in her step. All those who laid eyes on her could tell that there was something a little different about her. She was mysterious and very enchanting to look at.

Alaina furthered into the room and took a seat on the far left of the room among the group of her new colleagues and started to feel around the area with her eyes, getting familiar with new faces along with her surroundings. She noticed a few snarls and rolling of the eyes, but she was used to that type of behavior. That shit was very common because many females envied her and wanted to be her, so she didn’t give a damn. In her life she had come across many women from different walks of life who wanted her happiness and even wanted the man she was with or had been with.

Mona, the HR manager, entered the room and gave all the current employees their new schedule for training for the entire week. Although Alaina had only four more grilling dry-ass days in orientation. She was bored to death, but she was not going to complain. She disliked seminar-type environments, but she looked at this as a chance to live out her career. This job right here was yet another blessing that God had given her, and baby, she was going to make sure she exuded just how grateful she was, and she wasn’t gonna let shit get in her way. So she sat there bored to death and listened to the policing policies of the institution. Mona asked everyone after two hours of nonstop talking if a break was needed, and the sound of chairs and high heels bustling out of the room mimicked horses that were stampeding out of a stable. The chatter following was ridiculous. While walking around the parameters of the orientation room, Alaina began to look over her life and marvel in her own accomplishments. While doing so, a massive smile covered her face.

Alaina was proud of herself for landing a job as a cardiac sonographer at one of the most reputable facilities in town. She knew it was God who led her there. Plus, this place was very hard to get into. Most of the people Alaina had ran into said that the Roger Jones Occupational Rehab Spine and Cardiac Center was like Fort Knox. But she was grateful
