    Chapter 1

    Cynthia Savage

All hands of the classroom shot forward with little third-grade fingers pointing at the clock hanging on the wall above the whiteboard. The clock had struck three fifteen. It’s time for us to blow this joint! Cynthia Savage shot out with striking volume.

My dear, would you look at the time! Time flies when you’re having fun learning like a busy bee. Mrs. Daniel chippered and then continued, You all can leave. Just place your chairs on the top of your desk like we practiced early today so it’s easier for the janitor to clean the floors while we are away on winter break. Now be safe, and I look forward to seeing you all in two weeks!

Before another noise could peep from the mouth of Mrs. Daniel, the class erupted with noise of chairs flipping onto the desktops, kids yelling at one another from across the room, and charging footsteps of children sprinting out the door and through the hallway of Queen Creek Elementary School.

I am so excited for school to finally be out! I’ve literally been thinking about Christmas all day long. Like you don’t even know! Cynthia Savage told her two best friends, Nathan Sanders and Kevin Tillman.

Nathan and Cynthia Savage have been next-door neighbors their entire lives. They learned how to walk, talk, fight, and play together. Each of their bedroom windows faced each other from across their side yards. One day in kindergarten, they devised a plan to connect two cups and a string that suspended between their bedroom windows. Still, to this day, they occasionally use their cup phones to talk to each other while chilling in their space.

Cynthia Savage goes back and forth on her decision whether she has a crush on Nathan, but for now, and as she hopes forever, they will always be friends. Nathan is a good friend but is always trying to do what is right, which can be a drag sometimes. He has a kind heart, goofy laugh and can eat more bagel bites in one sitting than anyone Cythania Savage has ever met.

I can’t wait either. My older brother is coming home with his wife and kids, so I get to see my two nephews for Christmas! responded Kevin.

Mr. and Mrs. Tillman fell into the hot trap that surfaced while Mrs. Tillman was pregnant by following in the pattern of A-list celebrities giving their daughters man names. They joke now that they may have gone a little too far naming their cute little daughter, who loves ballet and lip-synching to Katy Perry, the man name of Kevin. Kevin is absolutely, without a doubt, Cynthia Savage’s BFF and has been since the first day of kindergarten.

During the school hours, Cynthia Savage and Kevin were inseparable. Their friendship was forged in the permanent bounds of friendship laws etched in the form
