About this ebook
As a Native American, the oral tradition is very important to my culture and is something I've always been interested in from hearing stories from my grandmother and various other family members. So using the many stories I've heard throughout my life, I decided to write my own stories, both to carry on the tradition of the Native American storyteller and also share my culture with people who may want to get a glimpse into it.

Introduction
This is a collection of original stories written and told by me. These are stories that float on the winds of time, with the oral tradition being especially important in both my upbringing and culture. Storytelling just came natural to me. I started writing as most do, as a young child, and having honed my ability for many years, I decided to share a few of my stories with everyone. To showcase my culture's legacy of storytelling, a way to not only pay respect to the storytellers before me but to also keep the legacy of storytelling alive for generations to come.
Part 1
The Great Warrior Series
Our story is one that will be carried on by the storytellers for years to come. It tells of a great warrior whose feats in battle are the story of legend.
We begin in the shadow of the great warrior as he kneels at the bank of a river, filling his water bag from its fast-moving flow. His long hair hides his face as it dances with the wind, which in turn, causes the feathers affixed to his hair to dance in concert with the cooling breath of Mother Earth.
Having filled his bag to its fullest, he stands and brushes the hair from his face. This is when we get our first look at the man that legend speaks of. His eyes the deepest brown always seem to be alert and scanning for any reason for alarm. The next thing noticed is a single handprint painted in black on the tan-brown skin of his face, covering his mouth. Most of the bottom features of his face show all that he is. A warrior who has seen many a battle. The two eagle feathers affixed to his hair show he is a man of great standing in his village, a village he has not seen in more than three winters now.
Our great warrior stands beside the mighty river in front of him. Having tied his water bag and returned it back to his hip is where we get our first look at his clothing. The buckskin leggings cover his legs to protect them from the bush and brambles when he is out hunting game. The moccasins protect his feet from the various things that might stab or cut his feet as he walks. Both hold none of the adornment they would if he were back at his home village.
The great warrior's gaze is drawn to the mighty black stallion who stands feet from him, his loyal companion drinking greedily from the water of the river. His black coat shines in the sunlight, but the faint scars are still there, if only barely visible. The stallion, like the great warrior, shows the scars of the many battles that they have experienced together. The horse is a legend of his right, said to be the horse no one could tame, let alone get a rope on successfully.
Until the day the great warrior had done both for the very first time.
From that day on, the pair was an unbeatable duo. They were always the first to enter the battle and always the last to leave. Their fellow warriors knew that with the pair on their side, victory was as assured as the sunrise each day.
As we watch, the warrior makes steps toward the great stallion whose keen eyes track his advance. Once at his side, he gives his loyal friend a pat and climbs back atop him. Turning the stallion, he again follows the rushing water upstream, continuing his journey from its pause at the riverside.
We follow the mighty warrior as he advances along the riverside until he comes to a shallow valley. He then turns his mount to the east, heading up a steep hill which the stallion makes quick work of reaching the top, and from this vantage, we can see from the shadow of the great warrior a wide valley.
