A Universe of 5 Percent Sanctified of Dark Matter

Cosmology is the study of the origin and the eventual fate of the universe. Cosmology is not just what we can see in the sky or revealed in the outer space; there is physical and spiritual cosmology, both of which must be understood from the numerous cosmological entities recorded in the Bible which scientists have discovered. Physical cosmology deals with the origin and structure of the universe that have been revealed by scientists which many evolutionary scientists speculate having resulted by a blind cosmological chance. On the contrary, spiritual cosmology is the belief that the entire cosmos with all the majesties of the universe is the result of Divine creation for a specific purpose, all of which revel the glory of God.

The recent findings of the Higgs boson particle give a glimpse into the beginning and the fate of the universe that is recorded in the Bible. The science of biology studies the origin, structure, development, and distribution of animals and plants in the biosphere, as well as their characteristic life metabolic processes, their methods of preservation of the species, and their functions in the ecological niches. Theology is the rational and systematic study of the science of God, his creative power, his existence, character, attributes, his laws, doctrines, instructions, and the moral codes for government, societies, the plan and purpose for, and the hope God provides for his special creation, Homo sapiens.

In light of the new scientific revelations, it is important to connect physical and spiritual cosmology with theological science that would clearly show the divine hand in the creation of the universe, the galaxies, and the celestial bodies with innumerable biblical reference that authenticate historical religious beliefs, the core of which are esoteric, difficult to comprehend by many unless they have a genuine deep interest in the esoteric. Because the universe with all the galaxies are mysterious, many things remain hidden to the skeptic world of scientists, thinkers, and philosophers. Many people easily give up searching for the mind of God. Einstein recognized the God of the universe and wondered about the role God plays in the universe. Stephen Hawking once wanted to know the mind of God. The mind of God can never be unlocked by skepticism and disbelief, but only by conviction that it is impossible for anything to originate without a Designer, followed by trust, faith, and fortitude to find God.

Nature did not give birth to the physical laws, they were set to operate and control the universe by the Creator of the universe and life. However, the Scriptures reveal that the secret things belong unto the Lord our God, but those things that are revealed belong unto us (humanity) and to our generations forever that we may do all the words of this law (Deut. 29:29). On the other hand, Scripture also assures, Call to me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know (Jer. 33:3). It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness (Dan. 2:22). Surely, the Lord God does nothing unless he reveals his secret counsel to his servants the prophets (Amos 3:7). The mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations but has now been manifested to his saints (Col. 1:26). Many of the physical cosmology has been deciphered and revealed by scientists in the last two hundred years, yet many things remain hidden. Several aspects of DNA that remained hidden for so long has been deciphered since 1953 and new information is coming out almost daily of this beautiful molecule of every species.

The God Particle

New scientific revelations about the physical cosmology and of the physical life are revealed every day. However, much of the religious or spiritual aspects of cosmology, the far distant celestial objects, the biological aspects of life, the DNA and the species Homo sapiens, as well as the spiritual sphere of humans are not fully understood and remain hidden as mysteries because many have no mind to decipher the spiritual dimensions and see how well they are connected with the physical world.

As already mentioned, scientists have found the subatomic particle that is most likely responsible for the origin of the universe. The breakthrough news of 2012 in the scientific world was the finding of the long-sought Higgs boson particle, dubbed the God Particle by the European scientists at the world’s biggest atom smasher in Switzerland.⁹,¹⁰,¹¹,¹² When God Particle was discovered, scientists had little doubt whether it was really the Higgs boson. On March 14, 2013, eight months after its discovery, scientists confirmed that the newfound particle is indeed the Higgs boson, the God Particles, now believed to have given rise to all matter its mass.¹³,¹⁴,¹⁵ It is from this particle that all matter of the entire universe was created. Scientists who worked in two separate teams believe that Higgs boson could explain why objects in our universe have mass—and in so doing, why galaxies, planets, and even human being exist. Rolf Heuer, director of the Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN) in Meyrin, Switzerland, commented that researchers have now found the missing cornerstone of particle. Scientists are determining any further aspects of the God particle inherent in it.¹⁶

Thus, Higgs boson has the role in the creation and maintenance of the universe. Physicists say that the discovery is the undeniable proof for the existence of the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle so important to the understanding of space-time-matter continuum that physicist Leon Lederman nicknamed it the God Particle because it is believed that this particle is responsible for the creation of mass of all particles that exists in the universe. This is an ultimate scientific proof that matter is created by God, causing the Big Bang at the point of singularity at his appointed time of creation in the eternity past.

Naming it God particle created unpleasantness for many physicists and atheists. The particle has been so elusive that it took forty years to discover it. The name God particle was coined by Leon Lederman in 1993 to refer to Higgs boson. Even Peter Higgs said he wished Lederman hadn’t done it. I have to explain to people it was a joke, Higgs said in a rare interview with the Guardian in 2007. I’m an atheist, but I have an uneasy feeling that playing around with names like that could be unnecessarily offensive to people who are religious.¹⁷ Many physicists around the world are disgracefully disappointed for naming it God particle. As a matter of fact, I believe Lederman’s first choice was God’s damn particle, which fortunately, the publisher would not allow to be printed out of his publishing house (perhaps by divine intervention).

This boson is so central to the state of physics today, so crucial to our final understanding of the structure of matter, yet so elusive. Lederman wrote in his book, ‘Why God Particle? Two reasons. One, the publisher wouldn’t let us call it the ‘Goddamn Particle,’ given its villainous nature and the expense it is causing. And two, there is a connection, of sorts, to another book, a much older one.’ The Higgs was a concept of almost biblical proportions.¹⁸ What an amazingly honest acceptance of the truth, yet they are hesitant to accept the truth of God behind the particle and the universe.

Two physicists recently wrote books on God particle and a universe evolved from nothing. The first is by Sean Carroll, The Particle at the End of the Universe: How the Hunt for the Higgs Boson Leads us to the Edge of a New World (2012). The author clearly explains the importance of the Higgs boson and the large collider, the largest machine ever built, explaining systematically how the greatest scientific breakthrough was achieved. Although he is also not happy with the name of the particle, he has a chapter titled Next to Godliness, which concluded with the statement, The Higgs boson, in a very real sense, is what brings the universe to life. If there were one particle that deserved such a lofty title, there’s no question it would be the Higgs.¹⁹

But his atheistic assertion that Higgs boson really has nothing to do with God, but nevertheless, pretty important is confusing. Nowhere in the book has it said about the source or origin of this dark matter from which the God Particle sprung, from where nucleosynthesis started after the Big Bang, and how the protons and electrons got their respective positive and negative charges, and the neutron set in neutrality close to the protons. How these subatomic particles attained structure, respective positions, and the energy and the power they generate are the basic questions physicists or biologists cannot explain.

Another physicist, in his book A Universe from Nothing, also characteristically rejects God’s involvement in nature and vehemently supports atheistic views. In attempting to answer Einstein’s question about whether God had any part in the creation of the universe, the author concludes that even a seemingly omnipotent God would have no freedom in the creation of our universe. No doubt because it further suggests that God is unnecessary—or at best redundant.²⁰ He ardently believes and propagates that the universe came into being from nothing, rather than from something. Such claims of theoretical physicists defy everything of the physical constancy, the physical laws of nature that have an unchanging quality. The question Why is there something rather than nothing certainly points to the existence of something from which the universe came into being. That something is the matter God created out of nothing by his Word for the creation of the entire universe. Can even an atom be formed without a Creator?

While I am not a physicist, the nothing Krauss refers is not really nothing in terms of particle physics; rather, it is something. The primordial void is noted in the Bible (Gen. 1:2); void indicates emptiness (the vacuum), which is space that must have some energy. As a matter of fact, most physicists believe that empty space (vacuum) has more energy than everything else together in the universe. Vacuum energy or zero-point energy is the energy density of empty space. In cosmology, people also call this quantity the cosmological constant or dark energy.²¹ However, according to other theoretical physicists, the vacuum energy of free space has been estimated to be 10⁹ joules (10−2 ergs) per cubic meter.²² Vacuum energy has a number of consequences, as explained by Dutch physicists Hendrik B. G. Casimir and Dirk Polder in 1948, who explained the existence of a tiny attractive force between closely placed metal plates due to resonance in the vacuum energy in the space between them, which later came to be known as the Casimir effect and has been extensively experimentally verified. It is therefore believed that the vacuum energy is real in the same sense that more familiar conceptual objects such as electrons, magnetic fields, etc., are real.²³

God Particle May Spell Doom for the Universe

While the biblical writers were not theoretical physicists, my understanding is that earth began its planetary life in the beginning as an unformed, chaotic empty mass of material that coalesced into solid mass from the hydrosphere of darkness in the emptiness (vacuum) of the space. This is what is recorded in the Bible. Earth was void and without form (Gen. 1:2). NASA’s powerful Spitzer Space Telescope allowed scientists to witness the formation of celestial bodies from a formless and void state.²⁴ See the picture of early formation of the universe created captured by NASA, below.

Several cosmologists agree that the God particle, the subatomic particle discovered in 2012 named the Higgs boson most likely will doom the universe. Scientists calculate the mass of the particle to be about 126 billion electron volts, or about 126 times the mass of proton, which turns out to be just about what’s needed to make the universe fundamentally unstable that would cause the universe to end catastrophically in the future.²⁵ Does the Bible affirm a catastrophic end to the universe and do scientists reveal what is said in the Scriptures?

Certainly, I believe so! But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But…the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?²⁶ This is how and where the mass created in the beginning will end, be consummated and the present universe will cease to exist. The hopes of scientists that Higgs boson may further open the doors of heaven are rapidly evaporating, although their findings point toward the end of the present universe,²⁷ which is confirmed in these verses.

Religious fundamentalists should also understand that what is stated in the Bible is "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters (Gen. 1:1–2 RSV). As in an executive summary of a document, the first sentence of the Bible simply says heavens and the earth were created, meaning the entire universe was created, but it does not say the steps, length of time, and procedures involved in the creation. Heavens extend from the immeasurable, limitless, boundaryless outermost space, from horizon to horizon. There are several galaxies, numerous planets, and billions of stars in the area referred as the expanse or heavens. The first verse immediately follows the statement darkness was over the deep (the whole dark matter present in the universe) and the Spirit of God was hovering over the deep"—dark matter of the primeval hydrosphere. The seas and the earth were created only on the third day (period), proving thus that before the creation started the entire precreation universe was full of matter pervaded by darkness, the dark matter scientist speculated since 1990s, and discovered in 2012.

Moreover, the sky, or the expanse (the continuous expansion of the space-time-matter), or the outer space was created on the second day (period). Thus, none of us know how long before, in eternity past God prepared the entire dark matter within the hydrosphere (the depth, or deep over which the Spirit of God was moving) before he created the heavens and the earth and everything in between.
