Mind Over Matter

About this ebook
For centuries science and religion often have been viewed as in direct conflict. Now recent discoveries in the field of quantum physics are dissolving those perceived differences and revealing the similarities between (indeed, the intersection of) these two disciplines. Mind over Matter dispels the outdated belief that the nature of reality is not that conceived by so many for so long—from early Greek philosophers to Newtonian physics and even some twentieth-century science. Quantum science's most recent discoveries about the non-material aspects of energy have now overtaken such outmoded thinking and the belief that our universe is material in nature. As consciousness becomes the focus for so many, we are being guided to a radical and evolutionary understanding of what "God" and similar creative concepts may mean. Our understanding of what and why we are, and the role consciousness plays in both science and spirituality, is challenging us all to question old beliefs and practices that are no longer relevant. Spiritual metaphysician, Susan Trammell, invites her readers to engage in a new kind of conversation about what it truly means to be spiritual beings experiencing humanity. New revelations await anyone eager to positively influence the tipping point at which we find ourselves and our planet. Discover the means by which you individually and our collective human race can determine the future of generations to come. Written for non-scientifically educated individuals, Mind over Matter offers everyone a path forward through a fusion of scientific discoveries and spiritual relevance. In this age of chaos and confusion, may we intentionally engage in opening our minds to be all that we've come to be. http://www.susanttrammell.com/

Foreword
This twenty-first century finds us at the intersection of science and spirituality as we gain a new understanding of ancient ideas about the nature of reality. As far back as Plato, humans considered the illusory nature of our objective, materialistic world. When we examine what philosophers believed thousands of years ago, compared with the latest findings of quantum science, we discover that everything old is new again .
Albert Einstein told us, The important thing is to never stop questioning.
And this book will challenge you to question virtually everything you think you know. You will be considering not just the possibility, but facts based on scientific evidence, that what appears to be real according to our physical senses is what our minds create life to be.
Quantum science, which has been with us for over one hundred years, is now at the forefront of helping us understand just how much we are capable of—our previously unrecognized and thus unrealized potential as spiritual beings having a human experience. This is an incredibly exciting time to be alive. The ways we today begin living according to an entirely new paradigm will bless future generations with as yet unimagined opportunities to create a world where peace and unity reside, instead of the chaos and divisiveness that threaten to destroy our planet. This is a story of who we really are and what we are capable of becoming.
Has anyone ever experienced times when you felt as though your life was turned upside down…felt like a train that’s been run off its track…like you’re heading up a creek without a paddle? Those times signal something important needs to happen. Experiences that make us uncomfortable, that challenge us beyond the norm are necessary parts of our development. When we’re able to realize the degree to which they can benefit us, we’ll learn to stop fighting them and find the time to deal with the core issues that they’ve triggered. As Master Teacher Raja Crumby tells us, At issue is whether our resident identity, limited self-perception, or altered egos will succeed in dragging us over the edge, or whether we will courageously choose to release the rope and walk away to embark on a journey into the unknown.

In this book, you’ll find yourself feeling very uneasy at times. The read will be challenging. Challenging situations create the force needed to bring about change. The problem is that we generally use any stirred up energy that makes us uncomfortable and that is intended to bring about change, to resist change. No matter who we are, Life is going to put us through the changes we need to go through. The question is, are we willing to use such challenges for our transformation? Believe it or not, Life molds us each day to become who we need to be to handle what comes up tomorrow. All we need to do is let go and not resist the process! Life knows what It’s doing; do we?
In order to ascend in consciousness, we need our disturbed personal energies. They are not an enemy to be destroyed. Can we feel compassion for those parts of us that are struggling? Instead of tramping down, denying, or ignoring these challenging parts of us—in the name of getting free from our humanness—we need to learn how to raise these energies up to assist us on our journey. Once you’re ready to surrender to Life and let It lead you where you need to go, just let go of yourself, and Life will become your best friend, your teacher, your secret lover. When Life’s way becomes your way, you’ll experience great peace.
Many, if not most (perhaps even all) of our problems, as well as their solutions, arise from within us. It’s all about consciousness—a very perplexing idea to try to define. Typically we think of consciousness as our thoughts or cognitive processes, but it’s much more than what happens mechanically in our brains. It includes our gut feelings, intuition, distance healing, and more. It also plays a vital part in how we respond to the world around us: our beliefs, emotions, and the filters we use that make up our unique worldview.
And where does consciousness reside? Many mysteries are involved in trying to solve that question! We know it exists, and we can at least describe it in general terms. We will explore consciousness in ways that will help us become more balanced, have greater self-compassion, become intentional about our lives, more skilled at coping with change (including aging, death, and dying), and more connected with others.
We want to invite shifts in consciousness that will help us move away from self-limitation, lack, isolation, and fear toward expansiveness, inclusiveness, wholeness, connection, and compassion. Shifts are what I hope you will experience by the end of this book.

Chapter 1
Plato’s Allegory of The Cave
Nearly 2500 years ago, Greek philosopher, Plato, wrote an allegory known as Plato’s Cave,
as part of his larger classic work, The Republic. The allegory’s application to today’s world is so timely, Plato might have written it yesterday. This parable reveals a lesson, teaches a truth, as parables typically do. The philosopher urges his students to be open to change and seek the power of possibility and creativity.
As recently as 1999, Hollywood presented what some see as a contemporary version of the Allegory of the Cave in its blockbuster movie, The Matrix. This science fiction story is about a simulated reality in which machines have enslaved humanity. As is so often the case, Hollywood seemingly was quite prescient in its all-too-accurate depiction of the way our lives are operating—or being operated on—today.
Plato’s original story and any successors it’s evoked, reveal humankind’s ignorance, as we remain trapped in society’s severely limiting form of reality. We twenty-first century humans, like Plato’s characters, are in bondage to ignorance and programmed beliefs. If this judgment sounds severe, it is. Our failure to question age-old habits, ancient beliefs, a money-over-morals mentality, and other restricting perceptions about life, has brought us to this time of crises, desperation, and a world gone mad in every direction we turn.
In Plato’s story, people are living underground in a cave-like dwelling. In this cave since childhood, these people are shackled so that they constantly stare at what’s before them—a wall reflecting images coming from behind them (and thus unseen), backlit by a fire. Between the fire and those who are shackled is a wall, similar to a stage, behind which puppeteers are operating. Those puppeteers—people who are free—are managing all sorts of wooden statutes, stone carvings, and other artifacts that are being reflected before the prisoners.
Now the prisoners are free to turn their heads around, but none ever do. None have ever attempted to see what might be behind them, and so all they know is what’s being projected on the wall they’re facing. Reality for those in chains is nothing more or less than shadow play.
Then one of the prisoners is unchained, forced to stand, turn around, walk, and look up toward the light at the cave’s entrance. This causes the prisoner considerable
