      Introduction

      How can I understand the truths of God’s grace if I don’t know what grace means? Early in my Christian life, I discovered that the Bible defines grace as God’s gracious favor or benefit extended to the undeserving. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast (Ephesians 2:8–9).

      As a child and teenager, I enjoyed the blessings of God’s common grace—His undeserved blessings by what He has created. When I witnessed the majesty of the Grand Canyon. The beach. The feeling of sand on my feet. Waves splashing over my head. Sunsets. The thrill of listening to music by orchestras in concert.

      Then at fifteen, I discovered the blessing of God’s saving grace. I responded to the call of Jesus for salvation, who is full of
