About this ebook

The Nightshade Guild: Chapter Three - The year the Guild was lost in time.

After the destruction of the time scythe that sent the Nightshade Guild back in time, mages Arion and Jemma find themselves wandering Hollywood in the year 1977. Joined by Jemma's partner, Niam, and her familiar Prim, this magical foursome must find a way to travel through time once more to return to the present day.

When the elfin princess Ameria visits the group via astral projection, the thirteen-year-old has a message that simply cannot wait. No longer the adorable toddler they once protected from certain death, her highness has reached out from the year 2033 with a critical mission for the mages.

Now Jemma, Arion, Prim and Niam must find two shards of the time scythe, a ley, and a magical object that will boost their power enough to propel them into the future all while ensuring that they do not change the course of that future while they are stuck in the past.

    Prologue

The time scythe, almost as old as the earth itself, vibrated with a low and long tone, like it was waking from a deep sleep. The tones resonated through the rocky cave walls, glancing off the twists and turns and creating a chamber of echoes.

    Sidrith was gone. Gone, gone.

Energy continued to build until the vibrations started sending cracks through time itself as the scythe glowed from within as if lit from within. The mages moved in slow motion as time lagged and slowed.

Then, in every time and dimension, the scythe accelerated and exploded, sending plumes of magic out into the world, and rolling time waves in all directions, carrying the mages to all reaches of time.

Shards of the scythe landed in the same time period as the mages—whether future or past, near or far and the resulting ripples shook the foundation of the universes.

No rhyme or reason dictated the journeys, but chaos prevailed over all things dark and light, and time settled back into its cradle.

But the mages are trapped…somewhere…and the shards are dark.

    ARION

Arion’s head spun. What the hell?

Nausea crawled over him like the buzz of loose strings on a deep bassline. One moment he’d been regaining consciousness, surrounded by the rest of the Nightshade Guild after they had destroyed Sidrith, and the next he was thrown backward, tumbling and spinning through the air until he hit something hard.

He groaned as he sat up, trying to make sense of his surroundings as he pushed away the pain with a faint music spell. At least his magic was somewhat intact, but beyond that, he was fuzzy on the circumstances.

Jemma, you okay? Niam’s voice strained.

Arion stood, his knees threatening to give out and drop him to the ground again. He shielded his eyes and tried to focus on something…anything. The flash, or explosion, or whatever it was had hit the whole Guild at once. Had the other mages escaped?

Jemma? Niam called. Where are you?

Arion wiped the dust and dirt off his hands. Something had happened with the time scythe. And Sidrith! Jemma? he echoed Niam. Was she nearby?

Jemma was another Nightshade Guild mage and a friend, and they’d been beside each other when the blast went off. That much, he remembered. He rubbed his eyes and peered around the sunstruck landscape as it slowly came into view through his hazy vision. Niam was Jemma's mate although Arion wasn’t sure if they had formed a bond or not.

Niam had been beside him, too, and he and Jemma were holding him up.

But what had happened? And where were they now? They’d been thrown from the cave, by Sidrith? No, he sensed Sidrith was gone.

The time scythe. It had to be the culprit.

I'm fine, Jemma said, her voice sounding as confused as Arion felt. With a hint of panic, she blurted, Where's Prim?

I’ve not seen her, Niam replied. She must be nearby—we all seem to be together. He helped Jemma to her feet.

I'm here, the pixie said as she whizzed by Arion's head. She hovered in front of his face, checking him out.

She was so close; he took a step back. She flew closer, right up next to his nose.

Arion ducked and waved her off just as a blaring horn cut through the evening air. He turned in time to see a car speeding toward them.

Fuck. You’ve got to be kidding.

We landed on a fucking road! Quick. Get out of here! he closed his eyes and dematerialized.

He didn't have a destination in mind. The only thing he’d thought of was to not become roadkill. When he took form on a sidewalk somewhere nearby, he scanned the area and didn't see Jemma or Niam. Nothing looked familiar, not that he’d
