About this ebook

When an ancient monster arises from the deep…

Joan and her dragon fly to the rescue. Spotting a kraken wrapped around a spit of land off the west coast of Ireland, Joan knows time is against her. When the sun rises, the sea spray and mists won't hide the mythical monster from human view, or protect humans from the creature's deadly tentacles.

Getting the kraken away from human habitation proves challenging. And when Joan spots a grounded fishing boat, which the kraken refuses to release, Joan fears the creature has already claimed its first victim.

Facing a kraken, without getting killed, tests even an experienced hero and her dragon. But that's the job. A job Joan was born to do.

Just her. Her sword. And her dragon.

Rory banked over the small island off the coast of Ireland as Joan took in the site below. She shook her head as the icy Atlantic wind slapped sharply at her face. Riding dragon-back was a convenient way to get around, but it wasn’t exactly warm up here, and the farther they got out over the ocean, the colder it got.

The night closed in around them, little lights dotting the coast, but the cloud cover overhead scattered the full moonlight behind it and gave the sky a kind of soft blue glow. Joan’s vision wasn’t dragon keen, like Rory’s, but thanks to that glow, she could still see pretty well in the dark. And what she saw made her sigh.

A kraken? Really? she shouted above the wind whipping past. How did that thing get all the way up here?

Most of the kraken had moved to the southern hemisphere several centuries ago. According to Rory who was a several millennia old dragon and so should know. The waterways got too busy and the sounds from modern engines irritated kraken. As far as Joan could tell, there weren’t all that many left anyway. But the ones that had survived the centuries stayed well underwater in areas where there wasn’t as much shipping traffic. A lot of them had ended up in the cold water around the Antarctic.

Making the journey through the warm currents running along this side of the Atlantic to glom onto a spit of an island off the Irish coast… "Something must have
