    Amelia

A chill wind passed by me as I arrived at the Purple Oasis gates, sending a shiver down my spine. The cold was quickly becoming too much for my old sweater to handle. If I was lucky, I’d be able to get something thicker for the fast-approaching winter, but there was a good possibility that I’d have to make do with what I had. Luckily, it wasn't too much of an issue if I was inside. It was only if I was given a job that involved being outside and exposed to the elements that I was going to have a problem.

I breathed into my hands and rubbed them together in an attempt to warm them as I searched the crowd for my supervisor's face, but I couldn't spot her. That wasn't much of a surprise, there were always so many shipments and deliveries coming and going, it could definitely be better organised. We were lucky to have a large dry-erase board and a reasonably large supply of pens to use on it. They hadn't exactly been considered useful items at the onset of the apocalypse, it was only now that we were trying to rebuild that those things had become useful for more than just fire fodder.

A familiar guy with pale blond hair caught my eye, and a smile rose unbidden to my lips as I approached him, waving in order to catch his attention. It was always better to try and avoid startling people, especially when they were carrying precious supplies.

    Hey, Matisse.

Recognition rushed over his face as his gaze caught onto me. Amelia, hi.

You got something for me? I asked, trying not to make it sound too flirty, but when it came to Matisse, I never really seemed to manage. I wasn't sure what it was about him, especially as I didn't know him very well beyond a few exchanges when he dropped things off at the Oasis.

He nodded and gave the cart beside him a pat. Fertiliser for the plantation.

Brilliant. I can sign for it. I checked my pockets for a pen but came up empty. How had I managed to
