The Untold Story of Andrew Dugger - Ndungu Mungai
Introduction: Unique Church Minister!
Narrated in this small book is the untold story of a church minister and theologian who promulgated the same teachings of the first-century church founded by the Messiah in Jerusalem.
His work was similar to that of the apostle Paul who took the gospel to the Jewish people and gentile communities in different parts of the Middle East, Asia Minor, and Southern Europe.
He was known as Andrew Nugent Dugger and was born in the United States of America towards the end of the 19th century. His parents were members of a Sabbath-keeping church whose members filtered out from their lives and worship services all the false teachings and practices of Christendom.
No other Christian or Messianic minister in that century embraced the entire teachings of the Messiah and the apostles like Dugger, who began his ministry in America in 1906. He assembled the most coherent set of Bible-based beliefs and practices than any other Christian leader had done before and during his time.
He also had a legendary love for Jerusalem, where he eventually restored God's church that spread the teachings of the Messiah and the apostles to the world. No other individual had been able to re-establish the apostolic faith in that holy city since the second century!
The impact of Andrew Dugger's work!
The effect of his work has always been felt and witnessed in different parts of North America, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, the Pacific, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Asia. He also reached out to many orthodox Jews in Israel between 1953 and 1975.
The many people Elder Dugger reached out to developed the most Biblically authentic faith. His followers, whom he called Messianic Jews, believed and taught everything and anything the Messiah and apostles said and did while rejecting any doctrine that failed to be thoroughly backed by the Holy Scriptures.
Today, people who read his literature have a better grasp of the Bible and the New Testament faith than most Christian and Messianic groups. Their beliefs and practices are directly drawn from the Bible and not picked up from the pagan traditions of some ancient communities which make up much of the Christian religion.
Individuals, congregations, and movements who follow his teachings have many things in common with the early church! They, for instance, reject pagan teachings and idolatrous worship just as the first-century believers did. Their religious practices and personal lifestyles are markedly different from that indulged in by most Christians.
Reason Andrew Dugger was a great man!
Andrew Dugger was not in the league of famous religious figures of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Congregational minister Henry Ward Beecher; William Booth, co-founder and first General of the Salvation Army; Dwight L. Moody, publisher/evangelist; William J. Seymour, an African-American holiness preacher; Martin Luther King, Jr., African-American preacher and civil rights leader, and Billy Graham, preacher/evangelist.
But heaven probably considers him the biggest of those men because of his unwavering fidelity to the commandments of God and the more lofty Bible-based doctrine he taught to the world without fear or favor. Unlike most clergy who mix truth and error in their teachings, Dugger tended to be led by the Bible and nothing else but the Bible. He had zero tolerance for doctrines borrowed from mortal men or laws or customs of societies formulated outside the biblical sphere. And he never at any time pandered to or supported the political and cultural aspirations of his followers and community as most bishops, pastors, or priests do outside the biblical mandate!
That, however, does not mean Dugger was a completely perfect person. He had his flaws and foibles: some of which angered his contemporaries. But he always sought to make himself a better vessel for God's work! That could have been one of the reasons God's favor was with him in his life and ministry.
Dugger reached out, through direct engagements and printed materials, to more people than some of the apostles of the first-century church! He provided more biblical truth to individuals scattered in different areas of the world than other religious leaders had done for thousands of years before him.
Despite his weaknesses, Andrew Dugger was probably the greatest apostle of the 20th century! Reading this small book will make you realize how similar he was to the apostle Paul!
His 22-year gospel work from Jerusalem to individuals and congregations across the earth makes him more unique than other Sabbath-keeping ministers of our contemporary world! The author is one of the beneficiaries of his Jerusalem work!
Lessons from this book!
This book is about Andrew Dugger's life, family, church, and pastoral work in America and Israel in the 20th century. It also highlights the failings of American Christianity during his time that eventually led him to a studious perusal of the sacred Scriptures. The book also explains the factors that shaped Dugger's faith. You will also learn the various developments that affected his pastoral work and how he handled them. You will also know how he eventually abandoned corporate religion in America and moved to Jerusalem and the individuals who helped him nurture congregations that developed from his teachings.
The book seeks to inspire you to be more studious in your search for the truth hidden in the pages of the Bible and be productive in God's work. It is a book every seeker of the unadulterated truth and follower of the Messiah should have!
The author encourages all men and women to have the mind and spirit that drove Andrew Dugger to work for Messiah without turning back! He feels Christian and Messianic believers and groups can learn a few truths from him and emulate his commitment to reaching out to the world with the true gospel that ousts falsehoods and vice from people's lives, religions, and cultures, leaving them with the pure Word of God!
1. Religion in Andrew Dugger's Land of Birth
The United States of America, where Andrew Nugent Dugger was born in 1886, was a Christian nation. Christianity was introduced into that country as far back as the seventeenth century. Religious groups that embraced Anglicanism, Methodism, Quakerism, Congregationalism, Presbyterianism, Lutheranism, Catholicism, Mennonite, Moravian, and Baptist teachings, were the first to settle in the thirteen colonies: Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
But the brand of Christianity these religious groups embraced and practiced before and after his birth in Bassett, Nebraska was entirely different from that of the Messiah/Christ and the first-century church. There was more that portrayed the vast majority of American settlers as misguided or utterly evil followers of the Son of God.
That was also the case with most other Christian movements that emerged in that country in the later years. Most denominations and ministers promoted beliefs and practices that the Savior of the world and future King of kings could not countenance. Being like Christ was elusive for most Christians, many of whom subscribed to the Protestant faith: Catholics were in their minority but were just as misguided!
A look at the early history of that country shows most individuals and churches were Christian in name only. Their
