Ben continues giving us a miracle, Ryan Dawson presented a signed contract.

The room roared with excitement, but I frowned a bit. Miracle. Everyone believed that Ben Danes was our miracle because he married Charlotte Basset a year ago. Charlotte saw things clearly and let go of his grudges against Raul Gonzalo. Now, she’s thankful that the small construction company brought her another shot at happiness with Ben. She let the company figure things out on its own while giving silent support for Ben’s sake.

A local paper covered their story. Of course. It’s not every day that you have an ex-convict marry one of Oregon’s richest women. Some people still think that Ben was after the money, but I knew it was more than that. Ben would hesitate but would never go against me. But he went against me to win Charlotte.

I would have fought, too, but I had to be honest. Charlotte was one complicated woman. For a moment, I thought I was in love with her, but it was only out of pity. Also, because we were alike. We were driven by anger and our desire for revenge. We wanted to punish one person who ruined our lives.

But how could we love each other with hatred in our hearts? I might have wanted to love her, too, but that love was not as strong as our lust. What we had was just sex. Even with that, I wasn’t enough for her. I could never be enough for her. Ben was.

Ben deserves someone better than Charlotte – speaking as his best friend. But when he loves, he loves. Screw the consequences. He did that for me.
