    CHAPTER ONE

    God and gods

God is always written with a capital letter G. There is a difference between God and the small letter god. I was wondering about this and finally knew the answer when I came to know Jesus and started reading the Bible. From young, I observed that in some places in newspapers, it is written as God and in other places, it is written as god.

The first verse in the Bible is Genesis 1:1. It states: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

And in verse 26, "Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock and all the wild animals, over all the creatures that move along on the ground.’

God was there from the beginning – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We are created in His image – spirit, soul and body.

Now where did the god and gods come from? For this too, the Bible has an answer in the book of Isaiah 14:12: How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! Yes! The angel who wanted to be like God was cast down together with other angels. These are known as god and gods.

They are also known as fallen angels. They are God’s angels too and these fallen angels have the power but God’s power is more powerful. Psalm 97:9 says: For You, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

From young, I had many encounters with these gods. Once, I had said something nasty when I was a little child and immediately, my mouth started to swell. I had fever and chicken pox that night which lasted for three days because the god was not happy with what I said. A few years later after accepting Christ, I was praying for someone. The person kept saying, I don’t want you to mention that name. I asked what the name was. The person replied, The name you are mentioning. Other gods don’t like to hear the name of Jesus. I kept saying, In the name of Jesus, get out of this body. The spirit in the person started saying, Please don’t chase me away. I have been here for many years. I don’t know where to go. I said that it
