    Rebecca

A lright class, today we will be talking about Stranger Danger. Rebecca instructed her afternoon class of teenagers. She started pacing patiently in front of her last class of the day.

Ms. Kelly, do we have to cover this again? One student sitting in the back of class groaned.

Yeah, we talk about this every year! Another chimed from the front row.

We talk about this every year because it’s important. Human trafficking is on the rise right now. Young people are being taken from their parents and families without seeing them ever again. We cover this topic every year because I don’t want to see any of you removed from my class or your families. Rebecca replied kindly, trying to stress the importance of the topic everyone thought was boring.

What if I want to get away from my parents? A boy asked from the middle of the room.

YEAH!!!! The class erupted with cheer.

I know right now you probably don’t like your parents and you want to get away from home, but trust me, one day you will miss them. Ms. Kelly replied.

Rebecca turned toward the board to cover the list of steps to be taken if someone was being targeted. Inside she was holding back tears because she missed her parents. She covered the topic of human trafficking every year to ensure no one had to face the horrendous event she did seven years prior. Her students didn’t know how deep human trafficking ran through her mind and heart. She couldn’t help but flash back to her past to help stress the importance of human trafficking awareness and prevention in the classroom.

It was her senior year in high school. She was blonde, beautiful, and ready to get out of her parent’s giant secluded mansion. Life was her oyster, and she was ready to tackle it with both hands. School was easy because good grades weren’t hard to come by. Her teachers loved her and inspired her to pursue education as a career. She had a lot of friends and high social status thanks to her parents large bank account, although she didn’t flaunt her status around school. She was respectful and kind to everyone she met. Although she wasn’t very nice when she met a mysterious and handsome stranger at someone’s party.

REBECCA!!! WELCOME to my house party! Oh my gooosh!! I am sooo glad you are here. I can’t believe Rebecca Knoll is at my house. Tina started gushing with passion about her house and lack of social status.

Rebecca was only attending the party because she wanted to get out of the house while her parents were in town for the weekend. They seemed to show up at the worst times when she wanted the house to herself.

Hey, Tina. I’m happy to be here. Nice party! Rebecca cooed with a warm smile.

Rebecca Knoll knows my name!!! Tina squealed with cheer.

Yeah... I’m going to find some punch. Rebecca smiled. She gently tapped Tina’s shoulder to signal her departure which resulted in more squeals and praises.

Rebecca entered the quaint house to see drunk peers partying in the smokey corner to her left. She decided to turn right and head for the kitchen. She had a pretty good sense of direction when it came to booze. Alcohol could take the edge off without derailing life completely, or so she thought.

She found the kitchen quickly without much distraction. It seemed everyone was already drunk off their horse although the party had just begun an hour prior. Rebecca wasn’t the type to drink to get drunk, especially at a house she didn’t know.

Rebecca poured herself a cup of spiked punch on ice before roaming around the house a little more. She sipped her drink slowly to hinder a full buzz. She was enjoying the living room scene until she watched a couple fall to the couch together while making out and getting handsy.

Rebecca was surprised to see Tina had moved from the door after their little encounter. The couch didn’t seem like a good place to greet people, especially with her lips attached to a man’s. The sight made Rebecca slightly nauseous. She had experienced kisses from her boyfriends although she was currently single because she didn’t think any of the men in her school met her standards. Sadly, she didn’t have a best guy friend she was secretly in love with or anything.

She liked men but not enough to give herself to them in the bedroom. Her parents would kill her if she got pregnant and ruined their perfect plans for her life. In truth, she wasn’t afraid of having sex, she just didn’t find any of the men surrounding her attractive enough to take a risk on them. She wanted to know someone to the core before exposing herself fully.

Rebecca walked out to the backyard hoping there would be a table with chairs available for her to sit and read alone while sipping her fizzy drink. She typically brought a book to basic parties because she knew everyone would be drunk or unimpressed with her presence. Although the greeting from Tina at the front door was new. Typically, the party host didn’t stand at the door greeting people. Which partially explained why Tina was writhing on her boyfriend.

In the back of the house, Rebecca found a quiet area to sit and read without distractions. Her new book was enlightening and inspiring for the future. The pleasant romance charmed her heart and put a smile on her face. She quickly became captivated with the characters and dynamic storylines.

What are you reading? A gruff, deep voice pulled Rebecca out of her book.

It’s a romance. You probably wouldn’t like it. Rebecca retorted without looking up from her book. She hoped the man would get a clue and walk away.

I happen to enjoy romance... Typically I like the product of romance more than romance itself though. The man chuckled deeply then took a seat at her table.

I’m not interested, so find someone else to sit with. Rebecca glared at the newcomer.

She felt like putting her foot in her mouth the moment she laid eyes on the handsome man before her. She was definitely interested in the dark bronzed man staring at her with sexy brown eyes and short dark hair. She was amazed by his calm, gorgeous demeanor reclined in the stiff back chair across her. He looked pleased with her reaction. Rebecca adjusted her facial expression to ensure the man didn’t think she was keenly interested.

Are you sure about that, Sweetheart? The man chuckled deeply again, calling her bluff.

Ah, you’re that guy. Rebecca smiled, looking at her book again.

What do you mean? The man smiled.

You are the guy who is cocky, confident, and knows he can get any girl he wants. You rely on your good looks for everything, especially catching girls. Rebecca answered. The sweet pet name just adds another layer of captivating charm to the ensemble.

Wow... I must say I’ve never had a woman call me out like that before. It’s kind of a turn on. The man smirked.

Once again, I’m not interested. Rebecca looked at her book again to distract herself from the man. He is so hot. I am definitely interested but I’m not telling him that. I don’t know who this guy is. I’ve never seen him around school. I wonder if he’s a late transfer. Maybe he’s a college guy crashing a high school party... Who are you anyways?

My name is Dominick. What’s yours, Baby?

Why tell you if you keep calling me pet names?

I’m sorry it’s a habit. I like to talk nice to pretty ladies. He answered smoothly.

    Gosh, you’re making me nauseous.

It might be from the disgusting punch you are drinking.

No, I doubt that. She sipped her drink again.

I guess you aren’t used to a man trying to sweet talk you off your feet. He started to smolder.

Is that what you call it? Rebecca laughed, then stood abruptly. I know this probably doesn’t happen to you, ever, but I gotta go.

So soon? Do you have a curfew or something? Dominick asked, standing to follow Rebecca.

I’m sorry that’s none of your business. Rebecca answered, rolling her eyes. She started walking toward her sports car parked on the street.

Can I at least walk you to your car or get your phone number? I don’t even know your name.

    Nope.

Wow, you are a tough nut to crack.

Yeah, don’t bother trying. Rebecca winked.

I guess I’ll see you another time.

Doubt it. Might as well take a mental picture because you won’t be seeing this face again.

Well, I love what I see, maybe I need an actual picture to remember you or better, yet we just keep seeing each other.

Once again, not interested. Bye. Rebecca answered quickly. Get the hint, buddy. She sighed deeply then pulled her purse closer to her chest.

We will definitely see each other again some day soon. You can bet on it, Baby. Dominick called loudly from the doorway of Tina’s house.

Rebecca didn’t bother to reply or say goodbye to any of her drunk peers on her way out. She was happy for the chance to get away from her parent’s. She didn’t want to endure them longer than necessary.

She entered her car then locked the doors immediately. She started her sportsy Mercedes Benz GT and sped off quickly. She was glad to get away from the handsome stranger at Tina’s party. Part of Rebecca wondered if she would ever see him again.

He is way too cocky for me though. I’m really not interested in dating anyone right now... Based on his comments I don’t think he’s interested in long term dating either. I bet he has his way with a woman then drops her to find his next victim. She said to herself.

She pushed the mysterious stranger out of her mind while she drove home. Rebecca turned down her street full of mansions and empty hearts. Her parents fit right into the ritzy part of New York. They were millionaires after inventing products people didn’t really need but enjoyed.

Rebecca was just happy to have a roof over her head and someone to pay her college tuition, although she didn’t think she would be able to pursue the career she wanted. Her parents didn’t agree with her low-level ambitions. Status was just an experiment to her.

She turned toward the long winding driveway leading to her parent’s giant mansion in the middle of the woods. She was delighted the house was secluded away from all the other rich snobs. She stopped at the gate to punch in her code, allowing her entrance into the house she claimed was her home. Deep down she was excited for the day she would break out of the walls to run free and do what she wanted in life.

She slowly drove up the driveway to her parent’s mansion full of objects that could all be replaced. Their mindset of money was revolting. They didn’t seem to care about anybody anymore. It was all about selfish opportunities, selling products, coming up with new products to sell, and marketing everything.

    There was a
