Pickleball Strategy Book - Dennis Hall
Introduction
Are you a novice at Pickleball? If that’s the case, welcome to this amazing sport. Prepare to become addicted to Pickleball! Pickleball is a fantastic combination of exercise, social connection, and fun. It’s simple to see why Pickleball is the fastest emerging sport in the United States after you try it. We hope you have as much fun with the game as we do.
Pickleball was founded in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum. The inventors aimed to prevent the largest or quickest players from dominating the game. It was also designed to be a communal game for amusement and family enjoyment. There are currently over 2.5 million players in the United States.
This e-book is intended to assist new players in becoming acquainted with the game. Experience is a terrific instructor, but having a working grasp of the rules, fundamental techniques, and frequent mistakes made by novice players is also beneficial. This book is also meant to assist experienced players in advancing their game by remaining anchored in the fundamentals.
One of the reasons Pickleball is such a great sport is because it demands much more than the athletic ability to thrive. Strategy, shot placement, and fundamental skills will get you far in this game and can more than compensate for pure athleticism. We hope this e-book offers useful information you may apply the next time you’re on the court.
You can’t be a forgetter if you want to improve your game or win more games. You must be an applier. The material in this book must not only be stored in your long-term memory, but also in your muscle memory. That requires practice.
If you want to improve your level of play, you must practice. To improve, you must play against a variety of opponents, and you must pay for your mistakes. You will not improve if you continue to do the same things you have always done. You will not win more games if you continue to make the same number of unforced errors.
This book is packed with tips and tactics that can help you improve your results without having to bulk up, speed up, or go back in time, whether you’re a new Pickleball fan, or a novice Pickleball player.
Game Rules & Equipment
Rules
The Pickleball game is similar to tennis, except it is played on a smaller court with different equipment. The game can be played as doubles (two players per team) or singles; doubles is the most common. Pickleball has grown in popularity because it brilliantly blends exercise, friendship, and fun!
Scoring
● The serving team is the only one who scores points.
● The game has a total of 11 points and wins by a two-point victory.
● Before serving, the server calls the score.
● The score is represented by three numbers: 1) score for the serving team, 2) team score receiving, and 3) server number (one or two).
● To begin a match, the score is announced as zero-zero-two
(note on the initial serve, only one member of the serving team serves).
● A score of three-six-two
indicates that the serving team has three points, the receiving team has six, and the server is the team’s second server.
● The player on the right side of the court serves first in the game.
● If a point is scored, the server returns to the left side of the court to serve again. As points are scored, the serving team alternates.
● The receiving team does not switch sides.
● Continue reading to learn more about the service sequence.
Service Order
● Until they commit a mistake, both players on the serving doubles team serve and score points (the only exception is noted in the next bullet point).
● At the start of each new game, only one partner from the serving team serves before faulting, and the service is then passed to the receiving team. As a result, as previously said, both players serve.
● The initial serve of each side-out is made from the right-hand court.
● If a point is scored, the server shifts sides, and the following serve is initiated from the left-hand court.
● As more points are scored, the server switches back and forth until a fault occurs, and the initial server loses the serve.
● The second server serves until his team makes a mistake and loses the serve to the opposite team.
● Once the service passes to the opponent (at side-out), the initial serve is from the right-hand court, and both players on that team have the chance to serve and score points until their team makes two faults.
Serving
● The serve must be delivered underhanded.
● Contact on the ball with the paddle must be made below the server’s waist (belly button level).
● The serve is sent diagonally across the court and
