About this ebook

FEAR IS YOUR ONLY GOD

Johan Michael's fourth Tale of Terror brings you deep into a vampire's torturous psyche. What begins as a camping trip with friends soon devolves into a new twisted reality by dawn. Will anyone survive the night?

Review: "Vampire at the Campfire gives a deep introspective look into the complex world of a person's psyche that devolves as a disturbing night of flashbacks and current events lead to glimpses into fear itself. Captivating dialogue, uncertainty, and a fearful curiosity kept me wondering what would happen next as I flipped from page to page. The story has a brilliant set of twists and turns throughout its entirety, making it a great read and the perfect story for any long dark night you want to feel some goosebumps!"

    CHAPTER 1

Y ou seriously didn't buy any vegetarian hotdogs?

Sorry, Gio. They only had beef, Isaiah replied, fumbling with a plastic corner. Or pork. Whatever the hell is in these Ballpark Franks. You're not eating one?

"No I'm not eating one," Giovanni said defiantly. He stood up abruptly and turned heel, walking away from the fire.

Hey, c'mon, Carly said drunkenly in a mid-western accent. Her clumped mascara made her eyes look like dead spiders. You just – you just gotta-not-thinkaboutit, the words slurred together. She smiled and took another swig of High Life from a glass bottle. Gio, getcherass back here!

Isaiah looked up from his frankfurter speared on the end of a sharpened stick. It's okay. Let him cool off. He'll be back when he's ready. They watched Giovanni disappear between two large oak trees at the edge of the forest. I take it you have no problem eating one? he asked, dangling the hotdog in front of Carly's face. Her teeth clattered together as she dove for a bite, stumbling to her knees in front of the roaring blaze. Hey, watch it! You're going to roast yourself! Isaiah said.

Gimme that lil weenie, she said, clawing in the air with long black fingernails decorated with glow-in-the-dark crescent moons. Come over here weenie!

Carly, chill, Isaiah laughed and shoved the hotdog into the fire. He held his palm in front of her face, trying to use a Jedi's force to push her back on the log. Back! Back, I command you! Sheesh, let me cook it first.

Smoke twisted through the cool night air, making its way through the canopy overhead. The sky was sprinkled with stars. Isaiah made out Orion's belt, inhaling deeply. A pleasant mix of burnt meat, perfume, and dead leaves met his nostrils and he closed his eyes, thinking of the last time he and Gio fought over something trivial. They made up and made out, and in a few hours, all was forgiven. If only it was so easily forgotten.

Dude. Yer fuckin' wieners on fire, Carly said with a nonchalant boldness.

    Aw, dammit!

Isaiah brought the tip upwards, sending orange sparks skyward. A blackened husk was impaled on the end. Carly's loud guffaws filled the campsite, exchanging for snorts as she tried to breathe in. Isaiah wiggled the stick, flicking the hotdog into the circle of stones surrounding the fire. Flames danced,
