Chapter: One
Cosmic Year: 9096'61
It was an extremely hectic night inside the central hospital on the technologically advanced planet known as Ouclahr. The highly complicated inner system of corridors of the one hundred story building was alive with the activity of med-techs and nurses making their normal rounds, while the intake nurses recorded important information from new arrivals and receptionists efficiently handled all of the incoming calls from the family members of their patients. All in all, it was proving to be the typical Ouclahrian night.
Unfortunately, the attractive and fully uniformed forty-three year old short medium built long red haired humanoid female from the planet Intara three with emerald green colored crescent moon shaped eyes who sat in the very uncomfortable navy blue colored molded plastic chair that had been positioned right beside the hospital bed that contained the comatose and wired up nineteen year old medium built muscular Ouclahrian male with a deep and glowing sunkist complexion, neck length apple green colored hair and tope colored oval shaped eyes that she and her fellow agents had come to know as Brie Secor was just far too preoccupied with the highly important task of deciding their next move to pay any attention to all of the activity going on around her.
Major Kendra Bryce was at that moment leaning back against the southern wall of Brie's private hospital room with her eyes lightly closed, while she tried very hard to get control of her emotions. At that moment, Kendra felt like a complete failure as an agent. Not only had a civilian gotten caught in the cross-fire during one of their important missions and severely injured, but their team leader was missing once again and had more than likely gotten captured by the enemy forces right out from under their noses.
The young female Major thought back to the situation that her fellow agents and herself had found themselves in and shuddered. She remembered the Alirian scout-ship that they'd witnessed taking off from Brie's backyard.
Fearing the worst, Kendra un-holstered her high energy weapon and ran into the Ouclahrian's house with her fellow agents following closely behind her with their own high energy weapons drawn and at the ready. The three Temporal Security Agents stealthily made their way through the modestly furnished and very well decorated house expecting to find Brie and Orin in desperate need of medical attention. What they found had completely shocked them.
Nora, Kendra and Neval slowly entered the living room and to their surprise found Brie lying in the middle of the soft brown carpeted floor unconscious, but Orin was gone. Kendra knelt down beside the injured Ouclahrian and ordered with a very angry tone of voice, as she re-holstered her high energy weapon and proceeded to check his vital signs, Search the rest of the house, you two. Orin's got to be in here somewhere. He maybe in even worse shape.
Neval and Nora silently nodded their heads and quickly left the room,. The young female agent checked Brie's pulse for a moment and then his heart rate and then sighed in relief to discover that the Ouclahrian was still very much alive. After a fifteen minute absence, Nora and Neval quietly walked back into the living room with very disappointed looks on their faces. Kendra looked up at her fellow agents and inquired seriously, Well?
Neval swallowed hard and then replied with an uneasy frown, I'm sorry, Kendra. Nora and I have been all through this house. Orin's not here. He seems to have completely disappeared.
Nora took a deep calming breath and remarked worriedly, i can just imagine what our dear director's reaction's going to be, when she finds out about this, That woman's going to kill us.
Kendra quickly shook her head and announced urgently, as she maneuvered herself right alongside Brie's shoulders, We can't worry about that right now. Brie's in urgent need of medical attention. We need to get him to the central hospital. This young man won't make it otherwise.
Realizing that there was no time left to spare, Neval nodded his head in silent agreement, and then said seriously, as he walked over and knelt down right beside the unconscious Ouclahrian's feet, Kendra, I promise you that we'll get Brie to the hospital in plenty of time. Hopefully, he'll wake up very soon with the ability to tell us exactly what happened.
Without another word, both of the Temporal Security panicked Agent's lifted the Ouclahrian's fragile body between them and carefully yet hastily carried him towards the front door which was being nervously held open by Nora. once the young Lieutenant was sure that her fellow agents had safely cleared the threshold, she stepped outside herself and calmly closed the door behind her.
Kendra was at that moment suddenly torn away from her silent reminiscing by the echoing sound of familiar footsteps that seemed to be hesitantly coming towards her. The young woman turned her gaze towards the direction of the well defined sound and was unsurprised to find Neval leaning against the wall that was just to the left of the open doorway of the private hospital room with his arms folded and an extremely forlorn look on his face. The youthful female Major took a deep calming breath and then asked downheartedly, as she wiped the tears out of her eyes, So, what did Merissa have to say?
Neval remained quiet for a moment and then replied with a frown of embarrassment, I only got as far as switching on my wrist-com. I just didn't know how to break the bad news to her. I'm pretty sure that right now you think that I'm being a complete chicken shit about this whole thing. I really didn't feel like hearing that woman screaming at me like a banshee. I'm really sorry, Kendra.
The young woman took another calming breath and announced with a wry smile, You've got nothing at all to be sorry for, Neval. To be completely honest, I'm not in all that much of a hurry for the Director to find out about our current set of circumstances either. I definitely don't want her finding out about what an absolute failure of an agent that I've certainly turned out to be.
Neval allowed his arms to drop to his sides and replied sternly, as he made his way over to his colleague and sat down in the empty plastic chair right next to her, "Kendra, you really need to stop blaming yourself for how our mission turned out. We all thought that things were finally going to get back to normal. None of us were given any indication that circumstances were about to suddenly take a turn for the worse, or that we were about to lose Orin. I'm sure that our dear Captain doesn't blame you for what happened, and if he could see the way you are right now, that Colistonian wouldn't be at all very happy with you. In fact, I’m very sure that he’d be completely devastated. Orin would begin to blame himself for everything that’s happening. I can only just imagine the kind of hell that our dear captain’s currently going through. We don’t need to be adding to it, Kendra. We need
