Mentor as a Thought Partner - Keerthi Prasad
Introduction
Life is all about the choices we make. We always have an option to choose between two or more things. We end up choosing it based on our instinct, or try to take an analytical approach. But I am sure you will agree that decision-making has been the hardest part in our life.
Life takes a turn for every decision you make. We wish we had a magic wand with us to help us make the right decision. In other words, we want someone else who can decide for us.
In some cases, we ask for a suggestion from someone and we expect them to say what we have in mind.
It is ironic that we look for suggestions but want it to be what we think. In situations like these, we feel like we need someone to decide for us. In reality, there cannot be anyone who can decide for us. We are the only one who can decide for ourselves.
But, the good news is there can be someone who can come very close to your decision. No, it is not your mother, father, brother, sister, or partner. But yes, it is your mentor
. Someone who can come really close to what you can decide, or help you choose things for your life, is none other than your mentor.
We tend to have our share of ego when we look for help. We do think that we know everything ourselves. We sometimes fail to think that there is always room to learn more. We as humans evolved only by thinking what to do next. Our thoughts have shaped life in the form it is currently existing.
It is a common belief in the eastern part of the world that fish was the first vertebrate to exist. Vertebrates are animals with spinal cord surrounded by bones. This part helped the species to think, and they started to think! Mammals came into being from the thoughts of the fish wanting to get out of the water.
Rest of the evolution as we know is all based on the thoughts of each of those species. Now we have millions of species due to this thought process that each of them had.
While it is fascinating to understand that thoughts are so powerful, the importance that we tend to give our thoughts to shape ourselves is lost in the way of life. This is due to various distractions that we face each and every minute in our life.
Distractions are in various forms, such as, work, entertainment, family, friends, social media,
