CHAPTER 1
War in the Pacific
Europe has been embroiled in battle for years. Adolf Hitler rose to power in Germany in 1933, with plans to take over all of Europe. In 1939, Hitler’s army invaded Poland. U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt has tried to keep your country out of war. But on December 7, 1941, Japan attacks Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. War has come to the United States.

you yell at the other cooks. You all right?

You three are the only Black men on the ship. You’re not allowed to serve in combat positions. But this is an emergency situation. You must help.
