Into The Jungle

Brad and his friends , Tom and Vic, drove their jeep along the bumpy winding trail into the mountains of the Catnip Jungle. The dense canopy shading the trail and the hot humid air were mitigated only by the breeze of their motion.

Man, I hate this jungle. I’d rather be back in Florida practicing with the team, Tom said as he slapped another bug off the side of his face.

You know we need to do this extra credit research project for the professor. He wants us to investigate the possible archaeological site, and as he put it, ‘I need young strong bucks who don’t have bum legs to go a trudging through the jungle after the relics since I be too old,’ Brad said in his best imitation of the professor’s archaic voice.

Yeah, I know, Tom said with a sigh. However, I don’t have to be happy about it.

No, we don’t, Vic grumbled rolling his eyes. If we don’t get a pass on this course we will be dropped from the team, and they need us.

Hell, I don’t know about y’all, but I need my football scholarship to stay in school, Brad said looking off into the distance.

The other two men nodded.

After a few more minutes of driving, they pulled up to stop by the toppled remnants of a large sandstone statue which lay face down. At one time it had been partially excavated, and it had once stood more than five meters high, depicting the visage of a jungle cat in a rearing pose.

Well, this is where the professor said we should park and then make our way further into the dense jungle. Get your gear, boyos, Vic said with a smirk as he hopped out the back and grabbed his pack.
