    CHAPTER ONE

    Paige

For fuck’s sake, Miles, cut it out, I say as I feel my blood pressure rising.

Ah, you know I’m just playing with you, Paige, Miles says, ever the joker––soon to be dead joker if he carries on trying to wind me up about my husband-to-be.

Not exactly a good way to try and joke though, is it? Meghan says as she rolls her eyes and takes a sip of her wine.

What? Miles replies with a shrug of his shoulders as he tries to look innocent. Fucker couldn’t look innocent even if he dressed up as a great big cuddly bear.

Telling Paige that you’re going to have strippers galore at his stag do is a sure-fire way to cause a shitload of bloodshed, you moron, Meghan says as she puts her wine glass on the table and leans back in the chair, crossing her arms over her chest.

Well, that’s fun too, Miles says, and I can’t help but scoff because this is typical Miles behaviour.

Miles has been my top drug runner for the last few years, and I have covered his ass on more than one occasion. I guess I have a soft spot for the cheeky bastard. I don’t have soft spots for many, so he should count himself lucky.

Meghan came into the fold six months ago, after Joey and I took down her brothers and essentially gave her her freedom back, but that’s a story for another day. A guy who broke my heart once before but won it back when I realised that he was made for me––and vice versa, regardless of what happened in the past. We’ve both made peace with our fuck ups, and now we are just two weeks away from the underworld wedding of the century.

So, what are you guys actually doing for his stag do then? Meghan asks.

Oh, Meghan, you know I can’t tell you, Miles says with a smirk as he walks around the table and heads for the back door. He opens it but then pauses. Well, I can’t tell you anymore than I have already. And then he makes a quick exit, closing the door behind him.

Fucker, Meghan says as I laugh.

You two really need to fuck that hatred out of your systems, I tell her as I join her at the table, sitting on the chair opposite her.

Ugh, no thanks. Been there, done that, and got fucked over in the process.

Look, I know he’s been a prick in the past, but I also know that he’s sorry in his own way, I say, because it’s the truth. Miles is the fuck boy that screwed up his chances but regrets it. I know he does.

He hardly shows it, Meghan says as she picks up the wine bottle and pours herself another glass.

"He’s Miles… when does he ever
