About the Author
CHAPTER 1
Ajet of clear spring water rinses the greasy ebony plates sitting in place by bulky hairy white hands safe from the spillage of murky brown with white elastic gloves. The room stinks of rotten eggs burning in a dirty microwave. Brown stains cover the ceilings and walls from head to toe. The tiles on the floor cracking with every step. Plate upon plate stacking on every side of the rusty sink. The shelves suffering from old age barely hanging on to lose screws. Utensils with chips and scratches fill the loose cabinets. No windows except for small round head wide peepholes on the restaurant and hall doors on opposite ends. A smell of a rose walks in through the restaurant doors.
River.
He turns to see fair green eyes steal a beat from his heart. He takes a step back, jaw loose with the slightest of slits, eyes fix upon her voluptuous lips. His eyes dodge only to drop to her figure, winding and bending back to her stair. He deflects but her hair leads to her chest. His eyes close and his head slumps so far that his belly button rests upon his neck. He swallows away his jitters and places his hands on the dirty sink.
Yes,
he whispers.
I think you have far exceeded the parameters of this position.
She slowly approaches examining his long wide frame shredding through his clothes from the stress of her appearance. Her eyes trail his hairy face remembering his baby blue eyes facing his small sharp jaw rough in its beard. His face compact with edges running along his cheeks and eyebrows. His nose a small piercing button resting on top of his small watermelon lips. Her heels drawing closer to each breathe he takes.
But there is one last exam you must take.
She stops a hair away from his head. Her fragrance floods his lungs and his eyes rise to her gaze. He crosses his arms an inch away from her chest.
What is it?
A small celebration of your new position.
Doesn’t sound like much of an exam to me.
It determines how well you can navigate through unforeseen circumstances.
