About this ebook

Today following the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States in 2016 the Evangelical Churches seem to have embarked upon what I would categorize as a grave hypocrisy. That hypocrisy can be characterized by what seems to be a god-like loyalty to Donald Trump often seeming to be at the expense of their loyalty to God.
Following the defeat of Donald Trump and the election of Joe Biden as President of the United States in 2020 the rift between what has been called the Trump Cult and the True God has been heightened.
In Under His Power we will explore some of the major issues and scriptures to back up those issues and the hypocrisy of the church in supporting and acknowledging those same issues.
Most adherents of the Christian Church, especially the more Evangelical Churches would ascribe to the Scripture in Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (NKJV)
However, one might wonder if the church today is in reality wrestling not against the rulers of darkness but against the power of God and His righteousness and paying homage to the very powers of darkness they profess to abhor.
Enter Donald J. Trump and the god-like worship of him and adherence to him and to the lies that he espouses. This has been referred to as the Trump Cult or the religion of Trumpism.
It is my goal in writing this book to explore the truth and to alert the unwitting adherents to Trumpism so that they might know and understand the fallacy of their beliefs. Along with that that they understand the danger of those beliefs to God’s church and the democracy of the United States.

    Introduction

Most adherents of the Christian Church, especially the more Evangelical Churches would ascribe to the Scripture in Ephesians 6:12  "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." (NKJV)

Chapter 1 – Introducing Donald Trump

Early in 2016 as the presidential primary election approached a relatively unknown candidate emerged on the scene and threw his hat into the ring of an already crowded race of ten candidates with varying backgrounds.  The man, Donald J. Trump, was in his own words a successful business entrepreneur who also in his own words was a multi-millionaire.  As we will explore later his self-proclaimed wealth was probably considerably less.

As is the case in every presidential election, the candidates draw attention to the incumbent president and his perceived faults and short comings. President Barack Obama, the two-term president, was no exception. Every four years the presidential candidates point out the incumbent’s short comings and/or failures and how everything will be better if they are elected.  Each candidate believes in his/her mind is the best qualified to do so and sets out as their goal to convince the voters.  Their qualifications might include their experience in state or federal service, ranging from state governor or senator, United States senator or representative, state or federal judge, or as a successful business entrepreneur.

Donald Trump professed the later.  For most of us, including myself, our first exposure to Trump was as the authoritarian businessman in the television reality series, The Apprentice.  Each of the contestants became a part of a team assigned to start a business.  The nature of the business to be started was announced by Businessman Donald Trump at the beginning of each episode.  A leader/manager of each team was elected by the team.

As each team completed the tasks according to their business plan they were visited by his children, Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr, who served as judges.  At the end of each episode, the teams met with Donald Trump and the three judges to report on their success.  If a team was unsuccessful in completing the tasks to start the business, as determined by Trump and his children, the leader of the team was fired.

It is certainly within the power of a businessman to fire individuals or employees that do not adequately perform their assigned duties.  However, as we will see later, firing employees or those serving as part of his team seemed to give Businessman Donald Trump and later President Donald Trump a great deal of satisfaction.

One of Trump’s alleged successful business establishments was Trump University (aka Trump Entrepreneur Initiative) that promised to teach students the secrets of success in the real estate industry.  While the stated promise of the University to teach students how to be successful is plausible it become evident that the real purpose of the university was for financial gain for Trump and his organization.

The university shut down in 2010 and eventually the Trump Organization was ordered to pay a $25 million settlement to students who claimed that they had been duped.  At the time of the shut-down and the law- suits and the settlement to the students, it was revealed that much of Donald Trump’s wealth came by taking over his father, Fred Trump’s, successful real estate empire.  From that it appears as if much Donald Trump’s wealth was inherited from his  father rather than from his own prowess as Donald would have us believe.  That relationship with his father also contributed to one of Donald Trump’s faults as will become evident as we examine who he is.  Although it might be a good thing for a businessman to strive toward perfection, Donald carried it to the extreme.  He could lose nor was he allowed by his father to lose.

While I was in college, I had the opportunity to take several business class.  One of the points on which those classes focused was how to be successful at business and what skill sets the businessman should nurture and develop to be a success.  It was stressed that he must be able to accept failure or defeat and be able to develop a new plan to overcome that failure.  I was taught by my parents, my teachers, my co-workers and my supervisors, to learn from your mistakes.  It appears as if Trump didn’t learn that since he had convinced himself that he could not and did not make mistakes, so, therefore, there was no lesson to be learned.

Donald Trump’s Casinos and Other Holdings (3)

Donald Trump and the Trump Organization had several casinos and hotels.  He opened his Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City in April 1990. One year later, in the summer of 1991, it sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. As one might argue that could be said to be a good business practice to rid the company of a venture was not profitable; however, it was not an isolated event as many other of his business ventures proved to be unprofitable as well.  The Castle Hotel & Casino that opened in 1985 entered bankruptcy in March 1992. It had the most difficulty among Trump's Atlantic City properties in covering its operational costs. The Trump Organization relinquished half of its holdings in the Castle to the bondholders.

Trump purchased his Trump's Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City for approximately $407 million in 1988.  In 1992 the hotel was more than $550 million in debt when it entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Trump gave up a 49% stake in the company to lenders, as well as his salary and his day-to-day role in its operations.  The hotel, overlooking Central Park in Manhattan from its location on Fifth Avenue, entered bankruptcy because it could not pay its annual debt service payments. He later sold a controlling stake in the property, which remains in operation.

Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, a holding company for Trump's three casinos, entered Chapter 11 in November 2004 as part of a deal with bondholders to restructure $1.8 billion of debt. Earlier that year, the holding company posted a first-quarter loss of $48 million, double its losses for the same quarter the previous year. The company said its gambling take was down nearly $11 million across all three casinos. The holding company emerged from bankruptcy less than a year later, in May 2005, with a new name: Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. Chapter 11 restructuring reduced the company's debt by about $600 million and cut interest payments by $102 million annually. Trump relinquished the majority control to bondholders and gave up his title of chief executive officer.
