Melissa Stevens

Melissa was born and raised in Arizona, she’s spent her entire life living across the southern half of the state. She’s found that, along with her husband and three children, she prefers the small towns and rural life to feeling packed into a city. She started reading at a very young age, and her love for series started early, as the first real books she remembers reading is the Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Through the years she’s found that there’s little she won’t read, and her tastes vary from westerns, to romance, to sci-fi / fantasy and Horror.

    Billionaire Bachelor - Melissa Stevens

    Chapter 1

    Dear Mr. Miles,

After careful consideration of your requests and needs, the Diamond Bridal Agency is pleased to inform you that a bride has been located who matches your special and specific requirements. All communications have been kept private, as is our policy. Communications from the agency will cease after this missive and we request, for the security of our other clients, that you destroy this message after reading it.

Your satisfaction is guaranteed. To comply with your request for haste and privacy, your bride will arrive on the Friday before Easter, via private jet to Tucson International Airport. Please do not hesitate to contact me should there be any issue with your bride. Her name is Skylar Wallace and she understands the stipulations of the contract as you set forth.

We are aware of the time sensitive nature of your request, therefore with your permission we can arrange for the marriage to be legal and filed this week, before Ms. Wallace arrives, we just need the included form returned by overnight mail.

    Sincerely,

Mrs. Alveda Creed, Diamond Bridal Agency.

David tilted his chair back and read the letter a second time. Relief washed through him. Finally, he’d have some peace. Once he had a wife, even if she was on paper and only pretending in person, then the press and everyone else would leave him alone. He leaned forward and filled out the form that had been included before calling his assistant, Adam, in to notarize it for him and make it legal before packaging the whole thing back up and asking him to ship it back to Mrs. Creed.

He could still strangle his sister for nominating him for most eligible bachelor. It was one of the more irritating things she’d done, being on the list had been bad enough, but once he’d been named the most eligible bachelor in Tucson the calls and emails and being hit on every time he’d turned around had gotten old really fast. But he’d found a way to make it stop. Being married would end his being eligible, which he hoped would end the harassment. Dinah didn’t see it as harassment, though, which is why she’d done it. She’d thought it would be the perfect opportunity to find him a girlfriend, or possibly a wife, which she thought would make him happy. She failed to see that he was already happy. David didn’t understand why Dinah thought he needed a woman to make him happy. But she’d been determined to have him married off since shortly after she’d gotten engaged two years before. He wished her all the happiness in the world, but wished she’d let him be. Now though, he had some hope.

Aweek and a half later, David found himself sitting in the small waiting area at the Tucson Airport. He’d received a call this morning with a message letting him know what time his bride was due to arrive, and he could only be glad she would arrive soon and he’d not have to wait any longer.

Mr. Miles? a woman’s voice stirred him from his thoughts.

Yes? He looked up and found the receptionist looking at him.

The flight you were inquiring about has just landed, the passengers should be in in just a moment.

Thank you. He turned back to the phone in his hand, answered a few of the more important emails and forwarded the rest to Adam to handle. His marriage to Ms. Wallace, might be a business deal, still there were some things that needed to be done, not just because it was right, but because he needed to make this look real enough to keep Dinah off his back. While he was working, a door opened and closed behind him, but he was trying to get this done before his bride arrived, so he didn’t turn to look.

May I help you? the receptionist’s voice registered, but washed over him as he sent the last email off to Adam.

Yes, I was told my partner would meet me here. The honeyed voice of a woman with flattened vowels telling him she wasn’t from around here, or even from this country caught his attention.

Do you happen to know your partner’s name? the receptionist asked.

Yes. There was a slight delay. His name is David Miles.

David was stunned and didn’t immediately stand like he’d planned. The click of heels on the tile floor alerted him to her approach and he forced himself to focus. He pushed himself to his feet and turned for his first look at the woman who was now his wife, at least legally. The last thing he’d been expecting was the shapely blonde woman who stood nearly as tall as his own six feet, wearing a light weight, feminine dress that made him want to see what was underneath.

Mr. Miles? Her tone was crisp.

    Yes. I assume you’re Skylar?

    Yes, sir.

Not sir. Call me David. Do you have all your luggage? He’d noticed she had a small rolling suitcase sitting beside her.

Everything I brought with me. There are a few more things that were shipped, but I didn’t want to have to wait on a bag.

Excellent. If there’s nothing else, we might as well be on our way. David motioned for her to
