    About The Author

    Introduction

It is natural to desire a better life, and there is a lot to consider when looking to improve the quality of your life. For example, a better life for you may be to enhance your work-life balance. This could include trying to get more time off from work or even taking a day or two off to attend to other obligations outside of work. The key is trying to find the right balance of work and relaxation.

Another way to upgrade the quality of your life is to focus on self-care. It is important that you take time to care for yourself by eating right, exercising, and nurturing your mental health. We can only do the things we want to do when we are healthy.

Many people are looking to leave their troubles behind and start anew. Think for a moment. Is this really what you are looking for, or are you searching for happiness? Happiness does not come by staying in one place forever. It comes by exploring and experiencing new things. This is what makes life fulfilling. To live a fulfilled life, you must be willing to grow and try new experiences. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you are doing things that make you happy.

A major part of what makes people happy is their mental well-being which includes a healthy lifestyle and maintaining a positive mental attitude. One way a positive attitude can be achieved is by learning to practice the virtue of gratitude. Be thankful for what you have.

Of course, you probably realize that acquiring and possessing wealth is not the true gauge of where someone's happiness lies. If one were to perceive joy from simple things like acquiring material goods, then each person who encounters and gains it should also have a universal experience of joy, or so some may think (or do).

In life, it is not enough to be emotionally stable. People undergo changes that make seeking happiness a continual process. The natural evolution in life follows a specific path; thus, when facing objects and environments that include both contradictory qualities, the human mind evades them to reach fulfillment. Making that change starts with one step which will shape your success for a lifetime.

In writing this book, it is my objective to teach you the guiding principles that will lead to the achievement of your goal to experience and live a successful life. Through these chapters, you will discover tools to help you find financial freedom while also pursuing the art of happiness. Kindly note that our level of joy is not necessarily directly proportional to our monetary wealth, and yet most people want both: more happiness and more prosperity.

This book is exactly what you are looking for. It delves straight into your innermost subconscious driving forces. Unlike many other textbooks on the same subject, this one will target specific areas of personal growth that I can assure you will bring a smile back onto your face. It is obvious, focused, and above anything else, readable.

Ultimately, everyone has their own idea of what constitutes success. And yet, there are some steps that can be taken to elevate the quality of your life. If you're not satisfied with the way your workday goes, try following these steps to make it better:

Plan and take ownership of your mistakes.

    Accept responsibility for your actions.

Be accountable for the results of your decisions.

Focus on the quality of everything.

    Challenge yourself all the time.

Analyze what you want to change.

    Find your inner superpower.

Take advantage of self-talk and autosuggestion.

Be specific about what you want in life.

Visualize your goal every single day.

Learn to adapt to new situations and environments.

    Believe in yourself.

    Live positively and peacefully.

    Be open-minded.

    Help others when you can.

Encourage those around you to do the same.

    Pay it forward.

In this book, you will discover the formula I have been using over the years in my own pursuit of a better life. I call it the AGDEL Formula, and each ingredient is a separate section in the book:

1:  The Right ATTITUDE to Learning

    2:  Setting Smart GOALS

    3:  DETERMINATION and Persistence

    4:  Levels of EXCELLENCE

    5:  The Missions of LEADERSHIP

I wish you all the best as you utilize the principles in this book in your pursuit of a better life.

    Good luck.

    Section One

    The Right ATTITUDE to Learning

    1

    The Four Stages of Learning

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all there is to learn? That’s exactly how I feel every time I go online. You probably experience the same thing when you browse the Internet. Perhaps, this is the reason why we feel like we don't have enough time to learn what we need to in order to achieve what we want in life. As a matter of fact, there are some people who tend to give up learning because they think they could never become good at what they're trying to study. Some people are so overwhelmed they completely shut down.

We must keep in mind that learning is a process.

Just bear in mind that whatever you are trying to master, you always start as a beginner. Then after some time, you move up to a much higher level and may call yourself an advanced learner. Then after some more time, you will reach the ranks of professionals. And there are some who pursue an even higher level that we call experts.

This whole process of learning has four stages—Unconscious Incompetence, Conscious Incompetence, Conscious Competence, and Unconscious Competence. Each of the stages has its own timeline.

Let’s look more closely at these stages.

    1. Unconscious Incompetence

This is the stage where you don’t know what you don’t know. But you don’t even know that.

Let’s take an infant, for example. Obviously, an infant doesn’t know how to tie a tie, and he doesn’t care, simply because he doesn’t know that he doesn’t know how to tie a tie. He doesn’t even know what a tie is. It may seem silly to think about an infant not knowing what a tie is, but you get the point.

Would you believe that there are lots of adults until now who still don’t know how to tie their ties? OK, enough! So, we all start our learning from this stage. And there's nothing wrong with that. Let’s move on to the next stage.

    2. Conscious Incompetence

This is the stage where you know what you don’t know. Being aware of what we don’t know is the beginning of the most exciting journey in the world of learning or knowledge acquisition as others might call it.

For example, I know that I don’t know how to play the saxophone. I know that I don’t know how to fly a plane. But I don’t stop there. Now that I am aware of what I don’t know, it’s up to me to decide whether to pursue the requisite knowledge and develop the needed skills to perform those functions or not. I now can do something about it, if I so choose. It’s exciting, isn’t it? If I decide to pursue such knowledge, I then move on to the third stage.

    3. Conscious Competence

This is the stage where you know what you know but have to think about it first. And if you are at this level, you know how to do something, at least to some degree. We become competent only in things that we know how to do, and this is probably the most exciting point in the world of learning because now you can do what you know. However, this is also the most dangerous stage because this is where most people get stuck.

So, what happens that can make you plateau? You don’t want to learn anything anymore aside from what you already know how to do. In other words, you don’t want to move up to the next level
