There is magic all around us and magic within us. This book is here to explore that magic a little further.

I was drawn to magic because of the opportunity to improve myself. I saw gaps in my life that I couldn't fill by ordinary means, so I turned to Witchcraft, and I've spent many years learning and practicing. It hasn't always been easy for me, but I have persevered and seen changes in my life that I can only attribute to the practice.

As practitioners of the craft, we know that protection is vital. Before casting important spells, setting intentions, or trying to manifest something, we must protect our power from negative influences. Feeling unsafe puts a tremendous strain on our emotions and drains us of our energy.

As we manipulate energy, we may face intrusive forces that may cause our spellwork to backfire and potentially harm us and those around us. For that reason, we need to ensure that we are protected.

While a protection spell will protect us now, another helpful option is to cast jar spells, which create a physical connection between ourselves and the energy we are trying to bond. Jar spells are also portable sometimes, meaning we can experience their benefits wherever we go.

The Origins of Spell Jars

Spell jars date back as far as the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. They were created as a protection against black magic and bewitchment. People would bury these spell jars in and around their homes to prevent evil spirits from entering. Or as protection from other people who might intend to harm them. Stories would go around about a person who had escaped the torment and agony of a hex or curse by using a spell jar.

Another use for spell jars was to prevent or cure illness. Before the advancement of medical research, people believed disease was caused by evil spirits entering the body. Or by a curse being placed on a person. A spell jar was then many times used to force

This is a good book for an intermediate witch. It does not cover the basics like cleansing, grounding and centering, or casting a circle—that’s fine, there are plenty of other books for that. The instructions for the protection spell jars are beautifully written with clear instructions. However, some of the ingredients are exotic and hard to find, which puts the spell out of reach of many. No instructions about substitution is given, but any book of correspondences could help with that.
