About this ebook

Out on her first real archaeological expedition, Vivian Anderly gets herself in over her head after she gets separated from her team and ends up hopelessly lost in the wilderness.

As night descends and the temperature drops, her only hope is to find someone - anyone - to help her. While searching for her camp, she instead comes across a cave inhabited by a group of curious, handsome men dressed in primitive clothing, armed with weapons and tools that look eerily like the ancient artifacts that Vivian has spent her career studying.

Alone with them in the wilderness, will she be able to resist the pull of nature that draws her to these lustful strangers, or will she give in to her primal instincts and let nature run its course?

"Well. I've never seen anything like you before."

Vivian Anderly was not the type of woman to be easily impressed. Many of life’s supposed pleasures did not typically interest her.

    This, however, was an exception.

The arrowhead was in pristine condition, preserved better than anything Vivian had ever seen in a museum or textbook. Absent-mindedly wiping the sweat from her brow, Vivian knelt down in the wet underbrush, leaning in close to get a better look.

No way could I possibly get this lucky!

It was her fifth day out on this expedition; a field survey, and her very first one, at that. The local townsfolk had mentioned finding shards of pottery and weaponry out on the edges of the bog, and Vivian had jumped at the opportunity to investigate before Dr. Monroe had even finished explaining that he was putting together a team.

And now, here she was, possibly about to get her hands on her first actual find. It felt like hitting the jackpot.

There was a pile of rocks stacked carefully near the arrowhead, arranged in a neat little tower. It looked almost deliberate, human-made — as if someone had left it as a marker just to catch her attention and lead her right to the artifact.

    Well, it had certainly worked.

Thoroughly enraptured, Vivian plucked the arrowhead out of the mud, wiping it clean and studying the intricate whorls and patterns in the bronze. It looked almost too good, honestly. All the artifacts she’d ever seen come out of this region before had been worn smooth with age or rotted through with rust. Water had a way of washing away great swaths of history.

But this… this looked amazing. Scrambling for a pad and pencil, Vivian did a rough sketch of the knots expertly carved into the arrowhead. Once finished, she delicately packed the artifact into a plastic zipper bag and tucked it away in her backpack.

Honestly, she had half a suspicion that the locals might be playing a hoax in an attempt to drum up tourism; it wasn’t unheard of. Maybe they’d created the items and planted them out here themselves.

Even so, Vivian wasn’t going to take any chances; perhaps she really had just found a phenomenally-preserved piece of prehistory. Just the mere possibility was exhilarating.

Taking a deep, cleansing breath of fresh air, Vivian got to her feet, stretching her back and feeling accomplished, like she was one step closer to being a genuine archaeologist. Despite the inconvenience of roughing it for a few days out in the swampy wilderness, she’d been having the time of her life.

…Even if she happened to be lost. Again.

Her excitement faded a little as she took in the nondescript trees and marshland surrounding her, not recognizing a single thing.

    Yep, definitely lost.

The forest wasn’t very big. It wasn’t even particularly far from the local town — it was just a small bit of nature nestled in between some touristy getaways and open swampland, so Vivian hadn’t concerned herself too much about keeping track of her whereabouts, much to the consternation of Dr. Monroe and the rest of her colleagues. The last time that Vivian had gotten lost — on the very first night of the expedition — she hadn’t been found until dinnertime, and Professor Kelly had nearly bitten her ear off while chastising her about wandering away from the team.

    The lesson clearly hadn’t stuck.

    Vivian grimaced. She
