Preface

Faith is itself the evidence of things we cannot see; it is about hoping for the reality that God desires for us and being receptive and obedient when God instructs us, in whatever way he chooses, to do our small part towards making that reality more ever present (Hebrews 11, Holy Bible, New Living Translation 2015). As I wrote this book, I tried to layer in evidence of the kind that scholars and scientists are comfortable with scientific studies, newspaper accounts, etc. Yet, ultimately, what I have written is its own evidence. No one will discover God all at once in a randomized clinical trial or a newsroom. Ultimately one gets to know him over time: individually by seeking him and corporately by acting, with others, as his hands and feet. I hope this book is one part of that journey for the reader.

A New Age of Miracles

Gwenism: The Bible is the book of secrets and mistakes: God's secrets; man's mistakes.

A dog kennel falls off of the back of a grey truck going west on the interstate highway. It bounces down into the path of a sedan behind the truck. The sedan has hit it. The light blue sedan swerves to avoid the dog kennel, which is now occupying a lane on the highway. The sedan then proceeds to spin – once, twice, three times before coming to rest on the shoulder, pointing in the original direction of travel.

While witnessing this from just behind the sedan, Pastor Gwen's car immediately slowed to a stop and also moved on to the same shoulder about 20 feet away. Far ahead, where it had pulled over, the grey truck began to slowly back up on the shoulder towards the two cars. Meanwhile, Pastor Gwen offered prayer to the sedan driver, and afterward the young white woman – she could not be more than 25 but probably closer to 20 – held tightly to her and cried her relief to be alive into Gwen's shoulder. A young white man came out of the grey truck and sheepishly apologized – the empty dog-kennel was unsecured to his truck because he was only driving a short distance. A middle-aged white couple pulled over at the scene and approached the young woman, asking if she was ok. She shook her head, still crying, and refused to relinquish her grasp of Pastor Gwen to respond to them further. They returned to their car and left.

Soon a cop car came rushing in with sirens blaring. Pastor Gwen gently pushed the young woman away from her shoulder and touched her back, murmuring that she would be fine now that the police have come and make sure to go to the hospital to get checked out. The cop stepped out of his vehicle and stormed past the young white man towards the young woman shouting, Young lady are you ok? Are they bothering you? Do you need help? The young woman looked at Him blankly, and Pastor Gwen and her daughter begin to leave. Hey, you! he shouted, you need to stay here and give a statement. Pastor Gwen turned back to calmly inform him that she was a bystander who came to support the young lady until the authorities could arrive and that she would be leaving now. She and her daughter get back into their car and continue their journey on Interstate 96.

The sedan hit the dog kennel, and the sedan swerved to avoid the dog kennel. These two statements could not both be true: or could they?

Our God, is amazing and can do anything He desires. There is one strain of thought that suggests He made the world and its natural laws, i.e., gravity pulling things down, the sun providing energy for all, the world and the universe eternally decaying, etc., and then after making this great creation leaves us alone within it.

In contrast, this book suggests that God knows every one of His creations – human and non-human, animal and plant, organic and mineral, microscopic and whale-sized, visible water and invisible wind – and He is concerned for all of them. It furthermore suggests that there are many things, creatures, peoples, actions, and consequences that God does not allow most humans to see or understand. But when He does allow us to observe these phenomena, then we as humans understand them to be miracles!

1.1 INTRODUCTION: A NEW AGE OF MIRACLES ONCE AGAIN

And so the Lord says, 'These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote. Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders. The wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.' (Isaiah 29:13-14 Holy Bible, New Living Translation 2015)

Because of how we oppress each other, God appoints prophets that can perform miraculous signs to return our attention back to our Father. This was true in the Bible where the one true God—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—noticed one of His misguided children, Egypt, was oppressing His firstborn child, Israel. The Lord engaged the attention of an Israelite man, Moses, through the miracle of a flaming bush that, nevertheless, would not burn. The Lord told Moses that he had seen how Egyptians oppressed His people, that their suffering, distress, and painful cries had reached His ears! God would rescue the Israelites by having His servant, Moses, lead them out of Egypt (Exodus 3:7-10 Holy Bible, New Living Translation 2015). Then God instructed Moses how to perform the miraculous signs to convince both Israelite and Egyptian leaders of God's command that the Egyptians should release the Israelites from slavery. The Bible has outlined step by step, the reason why he appointed the prophet Moses, OPPRESSION, and the way that we know that this prophet has been anointed by God, MIRACULOUS SIGNS.

1.2 WHY DO WE NEED MIRACLES?

The one true God is ushering in a new age of miracles. While this is an awe-inspiring fact, it should also inspire fear and apprehension, as it indicates that humanity needs supernatural intervention because of our wicked behavior. The broad issue is that the people God has created have fallen away from Him. We disobey God. We oppress each other through our sin, and we also believe the lies we tell each other that we are good people.

Inequality between people is high. This includes economic inequality: Powerful financial experts, bankers, and CEOs make themselves, and already wealthy families, richer by skirting the laws meant to make business fair. These business experts receive golden parachute salaries as rewards when they are caught in unethical behavior and must leave their positions. The stock market appears to be doing great, but the benefits are primarily going to the powerful experts and already wealthy families. For instance, in 2018 in the US, workers received average salaries of $39,888 dollars compared to their CEOs who received an
