About this ebook

Catriona West's world gets turned upside down during two unbelievable days, and predicting a tornado is only the start.

First, she has to make a split-second decision that could end up getting her fired from her dream job as a TV meteorologist.

Next, she learns that her ex, Luke, has been arrested. Cat is tempted to let him rot in jail, but the thought of the hyper, nerdy storm-chaser behind bars for something he didn't do sends her on the hunt for his alibi.

Even worse is the shocking news about her best friend, Claire.

Weather Or Not is a prequel novella. Unlike the other books in the series, there's no murder, but the non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat.

It wasn’t every day that I went to work, did my job, and then found out that my ex had been arrested and my best friend had been shot.

And the crimes weren’t even related.

In front of the camera, I was ‘News One’s Own Catriona West.’ Every weekday, I presented the weather and sometimes a little human interest feature. Think garden shows, kids’ sports and lost-and-found pets.

In real life, I was fortunate enough to have a circle of longtime girlfriends. And my best pal from that group was Claire Beckett. Or should I say, Detective Constable Claire Beckett.

I loved my job. I was overjoyed the day I was hired as the News One meteorologist. But now, a few years had passed, and I was getting a bit restless. I wanted more.

But by more, I meant weather or environmental features, not crime stories.

As it turned out, that night, I got a whole heaping helping of both.

I had been at the station long enough to know my job and I was confident in front of the camera, but to the rest of the news staff I was still ‘new.’ Windsor might have been classified as a city, but it still had a small town vibe. And that extended to our local TV station, where many of the staff and on-air presenters had been there since before I was born. Seriously.

This was my dream job. I was successful at it. My forecasts were the most reliable in the region. They proved it in some kind of survey. But that cut no ice with Reg and Francine, our blow-dried prima donna news anchors.

I kept my sanity with the help of our production assistant, Luanne Maijac.

As I finalized my notes for the late afternoon show, Luanne lounged on a beat-up olive green sofa in the corner of my dressing room, thesaurus in hand, I can’t come up with anything better. It’s an Awesome Autumn day. Go for it.

I was really lucky to have Luanne as my partner in crime. She always looked amazing, and today was no exception. She had on fitted taupe pants with a wide bow for a belt, matching stiletto suede shoes and an ivory camisole. A brown shrug lay on the couch beside her. Luanne’s fashion knowledge filled a big gap for me. I’d gone from student to storm-chasing straight to the TV station.

Thanks, Luanne, I murmured. Awesome. Got it. I took a last look at my makeup in the old wall mirror and headed out to the floor of the show, wondering briefly if the sky was still blue over Windsor, and hoping that it would stay that way until I could sign off with my trademark alliteration.

I actually felt that the chances were slim. My forecast contained the threat of a severe storm, something that had been in the offing all afternoon.

So far, though, the day had been a treat. Higher than normal temperatures and a mix of sun and cloud had drawn people to the
