J.R. Ryder is a newly self published author who had always loved poetry, fantasy with his head in the clouds. J.R. currently lives in sunny Southern California, where after 17 longs years in the United States Marine Corps he was able to retire. J.R. Ryder was the dorky kid that was always made fun of growing up, because he always had a story to tell or a poem to write to someone. So after years of bullying he set it aside and locked it away. Sports was his outlet, where football became his new passion. J.R. Ryder, wasn't your all American athlete nor was he built to play beyond high school. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as engineer mechanic. He spent 17 years of faithful service, serving our country. J.R. has 3 Combat deployments that we are all aware of to include an array of humanitarian missions. After retirement from the Marine Corps, J.R. struggled to find his place or find his new belonging. Going from job after job, nothing seemed to fit his personality or need. This caused J.R. to fall in a low. Depression was real. J.R. also had to come to terms with himself that he was broken. Needing an outlet J.R. Ryder found an old passion that he thought was long gone. His writing's. After gaining attention on Social media, he decided to give it a chance. His writing passion has always been romance. J.R. Ryder put out his first book Nightstand Desires with erotic short stories to allow the reader to go on a journey with him and explore his mind. J.R. Obsessive Seduction

The one thing I hate about Christmas is dealing with all the questions I get from family members who barely know me. I know they are just concerned and trying to make small talk but come on. The presents I receive are typically gift cards or something that are clearly not me. I mean, how would they know what to get me, they really don’t know me. I always get anxiety a few days before going to any family function, because honestly, I hate the drama. I go only to please my mom.

It’s Christmas Eve, and I make it over to my dreaded cousin’s house for a family celebration. My cousin has the perfect marriage, perfect husband, perfect little house, perfect kid, who is a little asshole by the way, and of course the cutest dog. So, it’s only obvious that she would host Christmas Eve dinner. Yes, I am single and my family loves to remind me every holiday or family function, just how single I am. They love asking, Oh, you’re still single? or Oh honey, there’s nobody you could have brought this year? I swear, it’s the same, year after year. I especially love it when I get the pity face followed by, It’s okay honey, I’m sure they are out there or Don’t give up sweety, the right one will find you soon. After a while it gets old.

I finally make it to the end of the night where I can finally receive my present and be on my way. I’m already tipsy and ready to leave. My Mom calls out my present,

Malory from Aunt Gigi.

Yes, Aunt Gigi, I say with excitement.

She always gives me the most random presents. It’s never expensive or extravagant like my other cousins get, which is fine, because her presents always make me laugh. My mom hands me a card and I slowly tear it open. I open the card before reading it, assuming there’s money in there. Come on, we all do it. A piece of paper falls out as I scan over the glittery, old fashion Christmas card and it reads, Enjoy. Confused, I pick up the folded paper and open it. It’s a coupon and gift card to Cordon Bleu cooking school for their free 1-month trial. The gift card is for buying items I may need for the course, I’m hoping.

Thank you so much Aunt Gigi, I say as I hold up the card and laugh.

Oh honey, you’re welcome, I hope you have fun! she shouts.

See, don’t get me wrong and I know I sound bad, however being the forgotten cousin is exhausting. All my other adult cousins receive meaningful, thoughtful, and even expensive gifts. I got a gift that was purchased from a high school fundraiser that was re-gifted to me. I know this, because I was hit up by my cousin’s son last year for his sports fundraiser and that was one of the coupons.

I grab my purse, my free cooking lesson, and I take my single ass home, of course not without going around hugging and kissing everyone good night. I am not about to stay around after the presents are done. After presents is when all the drama and mess happen. So, I figure I will grab a glass of wine, scour the internet, and watch
